A lot there very reminiscent of FF14, the medieval artstyle, mentions of the Mothercrystal, calling summons Eikons, and so on that I thought it was related or another MMO for a minute.

 

No release date though, there's typically been a really long time between reveal and release for FF, with none coming in at under uh, four years, so let's hope this thread isn't still going in 2024.

It's finally happened. They've announced the next Final Fantasy and I've not even played the previous one yet. My 17 year-old self would be so disappointed with me right now. I suppose I've got a long while yet before this comes out. Anyone else thinks it looks incredibly rough around the edges? For what is supposed to be a next gen title.

Those wooden animations and unfinished looking character models make it look like a star ocean game.

 

Along with over dramatic voice acting that doesn't match what's happening on screen. The first half of the trailer was a real let down. Was not sold.

 

By the end though there were glimmers of good stuff. Some nice effects. The sync between the voices and the animation seemed more natural by the end. Think this has potential but maybe they are showing it too early again.

Mm, when the trailer started I legit thought it was some kind of XIV spin-off. :blush: 

 

It looks pretty, but I'll wait until we know what it actually plays like (battle systems, classes, etc)...

It's produced by Yoshi P and developed by the Heavensward team, I thought the city they were in looked a hell of alot like Ishgard

 

There's also a Dragoon in there, which everyone knows is the best class. Though considering its ties to FFXIV there has to be a reference to both Estinian and Floor Tank

Let's be honest. The environments looked very PS3 and barren, with PS4 character models running around in them. It looked ROUGH. I have to assume this is very very early and they had trouble throwing something together in time for the show, because the editing was also rough and haphazard as fuck.

 

Personally, I don't like the combat system of XV and FF7 at all. So I'm disappointed to see that this time around, they decided to stick with the previous system of the preceding game. 

 

Probably going to end up being a PS5/PS6 cross gen title. Calling it now.

I’m super hyped. Really glad they’re returning to the medieval style setting for a mainline game and the OG theme always gets me excited. 
 

It looks much closer than they usually do as well. I think people predicting four years are way off, because though that’s the usual wait, we also don’t usually get any gameplay in the announcement trailers. Combat looks more grounded than XV. I’m sold 100%.

I think it looks really cool! A proper old school Fantasy FF for the first time in years, same awesome combat that was introduced in XV and brilliantly iterated on in Remake. Rough in a few places but what Final Fantasy isn't? It also looks to be super focussed around Summons and they look incredible. 

 

Bang up for it, basically. I adored Remake and am really looking forward to seeing what they do with this.

That doesn’t make much sense, if they were paying to avoid mentions why would they do it after the show? 
 

Given the issues with the slides having the wrong information about Demon’s Souls it seems more likely that they’ve slapped this together in the last week because of the Xbox announcement so it’s full of mistakes.

Oh it's the Heavensward team? That's promising. For anyone who doesn't know, Heavensward is an excellent expansion for FFIX which has a good story and characters. The expansion is set in a medieval wintery landscape with castles, lords, knights and dragons so it looks like the team is staying in their comfort zone (there's also a nice nod to Heavensward with Shiva sharing a face with a prominent Heavensward character). The trailer didn't too much for me though. I'm not sure I'd be into the hack n slash combat, but then FFVII Remake proved it can work. Maybe they're using the same system and just not showing it, in which case I'm more up for it.

 

Storywise and spectacle-wise there's nothing to get hyped about here from this trailer, the same old boring summons and crystal nonsense. But I won't discount it if the Heavenward team are on the case. The big question is whether they also used the same writers, if they did then consider me 100% more interested.

I am Hyped for this, I geeked big time with the Chocobos and the Dragoon, I am excited to see the story expand (and the blood splat on the kid I literally laughed at this part) and Summon battles! SUMMONS!!! The part of FFXV I did not like was how the summons appeared, I like the option to summon them when I like I hope it comes back to that style.... *fingers crossed* PLEASE DON'T SUCK!!

Well it's a trailer, I guess. Nothing exciting in there plus, having hated everything about FFXV (especially the combat) means there's nothing here I'm excited about. They didn't show any group battles though - have they gone full single-player hack-and-slash?
