Played this for the first time today, split-screen with my son. First game of this kind I've played. Blimey, it's absolute carnage isn't it? Marvellous spectacle, but I barely have the foggiest what I'm doing. Madly impressive the amount of stuff going on at once.

The level where you have to defend a fort against a load of guardians and lynels while capturing other forts and protecting Purah is really hard. Fun though.

Brings the framerate crashing too. I've also been playing fire emblem warriors and that's so much smoother in comparison.

Yes, would someone mind explaining Impa to me? I was mashing X, R2 and Y and before I knew it there were 12 Impas tearing up absolutely everything on screen and it was awesome, but I'd be lying if I said I had a clue what was going on.

You attack, then press X to target a baddie, then X to “absorb” symbols from it. The more symbols (up to three) the more ghost-Impas you can summon with ZR.

Gotta be honest I’m loving this game, it’s just so enjoyable playing all the different characters and working out their moves, I love the weapon fusing and levelling too - nice RPG aspect to it. If I’d played more I’d have ranked it higher in my GOTY list - I’m enjoying it as much as anything else I’ve played this year put it that way. The artwork is fucking sublime.

Ah this is so good. The combat is easy but rewarding and some of the hilariously OP moves are great fun. It’s perfect slightly drunk couch based gaming.

Totally agree it has a real matinee feel to it as such it’s perfect Christmas gaming.

When you get Daruk’s moves and combos down in this OMFG, also does everyone else just fuse every weapon into each other?

I'm finding it hard to get the knack of Daruk but I'll persevere - and yes, I fuse all the items mostly.

So, I wrote this off based on the demo: I love musou games, and very much enjoyed the original HW, but I found the constant frame-rate stutters (in docked mode - I didn't try hand held as I assumed it'd be worse) very unpleasant, particularly when they led to actual input lag. It just felt a bit icky to play.

However, in the recent Edge magazine thread Dekay voiced the opposite - that the framerate isn't all that bad. So, I thought I should check - does the game run better in the full/patched version? I'd like to grab it, as it's a gorgeous looking implementation of a genre I enjoy, but if it's as stuttery as the demo was I know I won't have the tolerance for it :(
