Xbox Series X | S

So I fired up the series S, did the update, applied the two Xbox live gold codes I purchased last year, via the MS website, and then upgraded to two years of ultimate for one pound, on the console.

and then I turned off recurring billing.

then I went to Tesco. If you see me online, it’ll be the boy, playing FH5…

Oh man. Blur on an Xbox series X might actually be possible one day?

Also noticed they have had some success in getting PGR4 up and running on it. Although think that was on the PC build.

RE: Series S, I traded in my Xbox One S and paid an extra £70 or something to get it! Which in itself is pretty daft.

I do however scoff at it because it’s not as powerful as a £1500 RTX 4090 ;)

You have to ask yourself, do you even really want an Xbox?

I was being facetious, as a wee piss take of the opinions that the Series X isn’t powerful enough.

Yeah I know it was a callback to that debate from earlier in the week ;)

On a very similar note.

Very curious to see what performance will be like compared to Microsofts official backwards compatibility.

Goldeneye xbla works sort of, crashes frequently. Played enough to realise I don't like the updated art direction though, too much like CoD, everything looks better in the officially released emulated version imo, chunky cartoony fun.

I don’t get the worry over Series S. Are we suddenly seeing 30fps games where they’re 60fps on X? Things seem to be getting better, if anything. Cyberpunk got a 60fps mode on S a few months ago.

Cyperpunk was great on my series S. One Piece Odyssey, to my knowledge, is a fixed 30fps on the s but has a 60fps option on the X and PS5.

Horribly under powered, 30fps, low res, hardly any storage, it's an indie game machine, you won't have a good experience playing any next gen AAA title on it.

I'm not entirely sure what your expectations of what a console should, and should not, be but I'm having a hard time following your logic.

I've always bought most consoles since the SNES days, mostly because I enjoy gaming and owning all main platforms has meant that I've been able to purchase what games I've been interested in playing.

I've also owned a PC for gaming since the early 90s, always making sure I've got a PC powerful enough to play most, if not all, new games with high settings.

Fast forward to this gen and the Xbox is my most played platform, and even if I own both the Series X and the Series S it's the latter I'm using the most. The Series X is, ofc, the most powerful of the two but the S is far from a shit console.

I was fully aware when I bought it that it wasn't as powerful as the Series X/PS5 or even a moderately cheap gaming PC but that's beside the point. The Series S is perfect for the bedroom and having a job where I travel quite a bit, bringing it with me to hook up to hotel TVs is great. While it's entirely possible to bring any other console, the Series X and PS5 are just too heavy and big as traveling companions.

If I ever feel the need to sit down and play a game solely based on output, then I prefer to play the games on the Series X or PS5 but as an option to be able to play from my bed, either at home or on travels, it's a great bonus to be able to play my games wherever and whenever I like.

Also, a lot of older games as well as less demanding games run great on the S, lately I've been playing through a few last gen games on the S with the benefit of better visuals and rock solid 60 fps performance, something I can't do on my PS4 Pro or Xbox One S (in most cases). As a console to play last gen games with better performance than last gen consoles were able to (in general, doesn't apply to all games) and still be able to play current gen games at the cost of visual fidelity and frames, it's nothing short of an essential piece of hardware to me.

Given its form factor and build quality, the Series S is in many ways my favourite console of the current ones on the market but whenever I want to sit down and have the very best experience, I do so from my favourite chair hooked up to my rather expensive TV and home theatre sound system and Series X or PS5.

You claim we won't be able to have a great experience playing any AAA titles on the Seies S, but recalling my journey through Elden Ring, I managed to complete large chunks of the game on the Series S, including the very last boss and I enjoyed my time on it just as much as I did when playing it on the Series X.

I seem to have a rather random issue with my Series X whenever I try to watch a bluray - the screen cuts out to black for a few seconds, but with no change in the audio.  I've absolutely no idea why it does this - has anyone else experienced anything similar, and if so, is it something that can be fixed?

Do a proper shutdown and unplug it for a minute, if the plugs in it won't do a full shutdown/memory clear.  See if that works, if not try uninstalling the Bluray software and reinstalling.

Probably your TV changing refresh rate.

New config file for Xenia stops it crashing on lots of games.  Playing Afterburner Climax right now and completed 2 levels of the Goldeneye remaster with no issues at all.  Instructions in the retro thread.

Not yet.  It works and you can play it but the brightness is sooooo bright you can't see what's going on. But it's release 0.1 of the emulator that's been out less than 48 hours.  I reckon it's not a major fix that's needed.

Anyone ever experienced surround sound issues with the Xbox Series X, specifically to do with Quick Resume?

After all these years I've finally got around to upgrading to a proper surround system which sounds glorious, but I've noticed a couple of times that games coming out of Quick Resume have screwed-up sound, with things coming out of the wrong speakers entirely. I've seen this twice with Midnight Suns and once with Hitman III.

In both cases, restarting the games "fully" has fixed the problem, but is this common? I've got the Xbox set to 7.1 Uncompressed and I've got no issues with the system otherwise. Initially I thought it might be because the games went into QR in stereo and came out in 7.1, which I can accept might have confused things, but Midnight Suns has definitely done it since with no further changes to the audio settings.

I have major issues with the sound on the series X, mainly that after a recent dashboard update I can't select DTS anymore, the Xbox says my setup doesn't support it.  It used to.  I didn't change anything.

I have an occasional problem with sound disappearing completely after a quick resume. Only a restart of the game seems to fix it.

I just had that for the first time yesterday. Maybe a new glitch?
