Xbox Series X | S

Even the Xbox series x is starting to struggle abit with more modern technical features in some games. I have recently got into 120fps gaming and it’s definitely a great feature, but resolutions are chopped a fair bit bringing you back to some blurry, lower res textures of the past. It’s just about gets away with it.

As an owner of an S and X I'ld say, that if your PC is better than an X, then you'll be using that for most of your gaming so why spend extra? Get an S and you'll save half the cost of a PS5, or SteamDeck or something.

But if you are one of those PC gamers who struggles with the compromises of Console gaming, then avoid the S like the plague. It's the definition of them.

The compromise on S is basically resolution - they've always been clear on that. If you want to play in 4k get an X, if you're going to play in 1080 get an S. It's pretty simple.

Isn’t it fps too?

As I like to use my PS5 as my main console and buy physical discs for it, the Series S is actually a perfect Gamepass companion to it.

I feel Gamepass' strong suit is it's selection of curated indie titles, that in no way take advantage of the power of the Series X.

I own both a Series X for the living room, and a Series S for the office room, but it's total overkill.

I mean that's *because* you're running at 120fps.

I think you belong in the PC/4090 thread

No doubt, but you can do all of that on the Series X instead, if you really want an Xbox that’s the way to go, the S is terrible, if you don’t want a Series X you don’t really want an Xbox.

What the fuck are you going about :hmm:

I watched a video of some guys console set up the other day where he had a Series X and a Series S connected to the same TV and I can’t stop thinking about it.

Was the Series S being used exclusively as an emulation machine or something? I saw last week that theres now a standalone version of Dolphin for it, still very early but already offers way better performance than the version inside Retroarch.

If you're not sure whether you want an xbox or not, and you come to the conclusion that you do because the Series S will be more expensive soon, then my conclusion is you don't fucking want an xbox mate, it's quite clear.

If you really wanted an Xbox to play games on then you'd get a Series X, I don't even want an Xbox and I've got a Series X, the S is shit.

So basically you’re talking out of your arse. People choose different things for different reasons, and one of those reasons could be because the X is out of their budget therefore making total sense to buy the S now before it goes up in price.

I don’t know, it was some set up where all the consoles folder out of the sides from cases mechanically and stuff.

Well even more so if budget constraints are a thing, and you have a PC to enjoy gamepass on, then an S is a fucking idiotic decision because it might get more expensive, wait for Steam to update.

Horribly under powered, 30fps, low res, hardly any storage, it's an indie game machine, you won't have a good experience playing any next gen AAA title on it.

That’s not true though is it?

We have a Series X and a bunch of S’s.

It’s not underpowered for what it’s designed for (1080/1440 gaming)

I have played fortnite, halo and other stuff at 120fps

Storage is a problem when stuff like destiny 2 is 120gb yes

I have 100s of games and not many are indie games that I can think of

I’ve had great experiences playing Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, the new engine Fortnite, Battlefield 2042, Forza Horizon 5 and other stuff on it.

This is on a 1440p screen.

If you have a high-end gaming PC, of course you need an Xbox.... without one what else are you going to come on here and act all superior/moan about?

Looks like I've being doing everything wrong.

Oh no, wait, it's the other thing - where you've confused your opinion with immutable fact and any deviation from that is simply wrong.

You should try and separate the two things. It's quite liberating. For example, I think football is pointless and they're all overpaid egomaniacs, but I'm aware that you and others think differently. And that's ok.
