Bluetooth has a habit of really killing frame rates on some games, causes some weirdness when the batteries run low and also doesn't play too nice with the Xbox Wireless headphones for some reason.

You can still get the wireless adapter (Msoft are selling the Series pad with an adaptor for £45 currently) - worth the money in my opinion as removes all the above issues.

https://www.xbox.com/en-gb/accessories/controllers/xbox-wireless-controller-adapter-win10

Warning though they are fragile as hell things - I recommend using the extra wire it comes with and hiding the little stick thing away somewhere safe where it will not get knocked - I've killed two of them so far where they've taken a gentle blow whilst sticking out of a USB port on my laptop.

Cheers for this - I had looked and saw the adapters were out of stock, but never considered a bundle might exist.

A good use for my accumulated reward points. It's a marginal improvement over the existing Xbox One controller I use, but the headset port is a bonus and it's generally a nicer feel.

Frame rate tanking was exactly the thing I was trying to remember, though I suspect it's very rare.

FWIW it definitely used to be very noticeable on some games…AC: Origins was particularly badly affected I remember, although it might be something Windows has subsequently patched out.

At any rate I’ve used the adapter for the last couple of years and it works a treat, caveats about being careful with them notwithstanding.

The process is explained here in clear steps... https://www.thegamer.com/game-share-xbox-one-series-s-x-consoles/#:~:text=How To Set Up Game Share On An,Select 'add new' to add the other account.

👍

It's not bragged about on official Microsoft sites or help pages because, God forbid, they might miss out on a few more quid 🙄

Thanks! :hat:

Thinking of moving my XSX to the bedroom. What's a good non-massive TV to pair with it these days? Currently have a 40" 1080p, don't want to go too much bigger.

Is it a case of just grabbing whatever Samsung QLED or LG OLED? The 48" LG A2 (could probably just about justify the size) is $569 in the sales right now, for example.

Edit - so that's a 60hz set. To get VRR or 120hz it seems like you need to get a big tv. I'm assuming the A2 still looks good?

The LG C2 is now available in 42” but it’s not cheap.

Yeah that's quite a chunk of change. I'm sure an A2 would look like magic, it's currently connected to a non-LED TCL with only dimming zones and a few years old now.

Edit- sod it, ordered the A2. Will report back on Friday.

The A2 is a fine TV for the Series S, as long as you don't plan on using it for more powerful hardware it will cover all your needs.

I had the same problem with mine dying, unplugged it and put it in a drawer for a while.. and now it doesn't work anymore. Really frustrating when they're no longer available separately.

I've replaced it with an 8bitdo Wireless USB Adapter 2 which so far is working well and widely available, and compatible with a wider range of controllers. EDIT: 8bitdo adapter is going back, keeps freezing and I have to unplug and re-plug the adapter to get my controller working again - both Xbox and PS5 controllers.

Thanks Nige! I did exactly this with Richer Sounds (I did need to join costco and show Richer sounds evidence, but that was fine). I now join the people who can boast about their OLED. I've been waiting years for them to be small enough to fit in the space. And then when they arrived this year £1400 was too rich for my blood, but £700 is much more reasonable.

It’s now £699.99 on Richer Sounds website, so if you paid more than this for it you may want to give them a call.

I doubt many people will be interested in this, but I fancied playing Assassin's Creed Brotherhood last night but it was not available in the store and the wiki says you need the disk. I booted up my 360 and was able to buy it on there, and it worked perfectly fine on the Series X and S, just appearing in my just of games.

I think they've closed the ARG redeem loophole. Can anyone tell me if they've had success redeeming ARG/TUR codes via VPN recently?

EDIT: apparently it might depend on the VPN. Doesn't work through Nord on my desktop but does through VPN.LAT on my phone. Fucking weird.

Nope still works. Theyv changed gifting where some one who could get on their store could buy a game and gift you it for cheaper.

I saw they'd stopped gifting in those countries. It still works for now but it's flakey with some VPNs. I'd have thought they'd have plugged the hole by now if they were going to.

I suspect whether and when any of the platform holders (I'm aware similar issues exist for Nintendo, not sure about Sony) fix this loophole will depend on developers.

From a platform holder perspective, they might only choose to react if the level of use got completely absurd. Their real win at this point is with capturing and maintaining a user base. Of course, they get a cut of every sale so the value of those sales matters but as I say, I'm not sure financial motives are big here. If they were it would already have been "fixed".

But if developers start to react badly to seeing poor returns for reasonable sales due to people paying less to get from abroad then maybe that's different. If all the platform holders are allowing roughly the same thing then maybe they don't have a choice. But if one is much stricter maybe they start to hoover up more games for their platform.

There was an interesting case of this last month. How Lets Build a Zoo became an indie hit due to region hopping customers. In this case all the cheap purchases in Argentina (which the developer worried would massively reduce their return) ended up getting the sales into the "Americas" popular game lists and driving more sales in the US at higher prices. So it worked out nicely for them. But this is an edge case. For most developers they might just as likely watch their game be a sales success but without the return on investment.

Jeepers. My latest Xbox controller has developed stick drift. This will be the third sodding X controller that has developed a fault within a couple of years. My old Xbox One controller is bloody ancient and that's still absolutely fine.

Not good enough MS :(

I'm currently looking at the new 8-bit do 'ultimate' controller as a substitute...

Anyone have one of these? They look pretty swish.

I have the one before it, Pro 2 bought as a spare.  I cant get on with it when playing basic shooters like fortnite on PC.  The triggers are so spongy / the travel distance is so far that it feels like your reactions are in treacle.  They have maybe changed it or if you dont play shooters you'll be ok.

That won’t work wirelessly with the Xbox. I bought two XSX pads this year due to stick drift, I don’t even use them very often!
