Quick question to those who know - does the Series S run backwards compatibility in 4k? I'm thinking games like the original Gears trilogy. They look bloody fantastic in 4k and 60fps on an X, but wondering if they do the same on the S?

No. The use the One S assets, rather than One X, so you lose out on all the fancy graphics. I think you get a better frame rate though.

As far as I understood it both Series S and X BC GoW games run at 1440p@60fps. Could be wrong though as they may have been patches since..

Not that it really matters I guess.. still feels a bit more responsive at 60fps.

Am I in the minority here when I say that I think the Xbox One controller is - aside from the rumble effect - a considerably better controller?

I've got both set up with my PC, and the older pad is significantly better in terms of latency. They're both being used wirelessly, but whilst there are many occasions when I'm having to press buttons twice (because they didn't take the first time) on the newer pad, on the One controller everything is pretty much spot on. Has the new one been made with cheaper components or something? I should add it's not just this particular Series controller - I've had a number of them and they've all had this issue.

I've noticed that while navigating the dashboard on the XSX, to the best of my knowledge I haven't fluffed something in-game yet due to it. I want to say I've seen it on my XB1 pads too, so perhaps it's just the maelstrom of 2.4ghz signals in this area. I'm pretty sure that's a thing, the range on the remote to open my garage door varies, too. That's what I've chalked it up to, could be bollocks. Haven't really looked into it.

Yeah I deffo notice it on the dash but have yet to notice it in-game. I normally smash a button over and over again though if a game is that intense.

Does anyone use the Series console for streaming apps?

I realise it's much more power hungry than using my C2's built in apps but I can't get Dolby headphones from my C2, at least I can't figure it out. I know the Blu-ray drive doesn't support Dolby vision, but it seems the streaming apps and shows you buy on the Microsoft store do?  I heard that it can enforce hdr even if the film is sdr but I tried an sdr movie and it didn't trigger hdr on my TV.

Yeh I do it's really good. I had a shield TV but have taken it out now as I use Xbox for everything. It actually looks better too on Netflix and Disney.

This has been my experience, and since noticing I’ve switched to using the Xbox to stream everything.

Does anyone use their Xbox to watch movies from an external hard drive? The app works fine but when I fast forward 4k content it starts visually glitching and won't go back to normal. Fast forwarding works fine on non-4k stuff though.

Just wondered if everyone has this issue and if there's another app that works better?

Just careful if you’re plugging those headphones into the controller and the controller falls asleep as the sound starts blaring out the telly again.

If anyone knows a way to stop this I will love you forever.

If you connect the controller with a cable, it won’t go to standby and try remember to turn the tv volume down when you plug the headphones in. I’ve been caught out with the same thing a few times

I'm using the wireless headset from Microsoft so no worries there.

Speaking of the headset, I'm very happy with it after using the settings provided in this thread. I just watched a film using Atmos movie mode and it sounded excellent. I was thinking about buying a remote for use with media play back, but the controller works pretty well Imo.

I wonder if he is talking about the price of the consoles?

He elaborates a bit in this tweet:

I guess the cost of parts/distribution etc going up could point to the consoles. But the value of gamepass is so insane right now we all knew it wouldn’t last forever. Also adding all the CODs etc. next year could be a good justification for it too.

I finally sat down and tried Bright Memory Infinite. What a fantastic looking game (silky smooth frame rate and ray tracing, eat that Gotham Knight devs!)

Gameplay wise it’s like a cross between Shadow Warrior and Titanfall 2 (without titans). Great gunplay, you can deflect bullets and also grab folk like a Jedi. Less than £3 for an Argentinian key, gotta be bargain of the century!

Finally sat down and started to play MGS 5. Not sure why but owned it on the PS4 and just never gave it the time of day, been playing it for a few hours this evening and it rocks!  For a game that came out in 2015 it still looks pretty good on X.

Let it rain. :eyebrows:

Fed up of fan noise when playing Series enhanced games I finally moved my Series X behind the TV last night and it worked!

Although the X had ventilation in the unit I had it in, it was still enclosed and I think it reverberated the sound of the fan.

I can finally play the likes of Deathloop in peace.

The original is also worth a play (Bright Memory) pretty sure it got released on Xbox (I bought the PC version years ago and got Infinite for free as a result).

Only a couple of hours but a very pretty and intense couple of hours

The left bumper on my pad made a weird crack/pop last night and now it isnt responsive.  Maybe 1 in 5 presses work and its clearly a lot less clicky than the right bumper.

Is it worth attempting a fix or just new pad time?

Probably the plastic has broken on the bumper switch cover IIRC the bumper switch covers  are connected with a long piece of plastic...

Check it on the Microsoft support site as its probably covered. They fix them pretty quickly (mine was back in under a week).
