Xbox Series X | S

When are we expecting full HDMI-CEC control for the series S|X? I know currently it's available to power up my TV on with the Series S boot up, volume control etc. I've seen a few articles from around September last year saying the ability to navigate the dash control Netflix etc was coming soon. Has this feature not dropped yet?

I just want them to finally add the "Switch TV input when console is turned on" control.  I was baffled when the OneX didn't have that and it's still not yet been added. I mean the Nintendo Switch has had it for years!

Mine's been doing that since launch day. How odd.

I'm pretty sure mine does too. I turn the Xbox on and it swtiches on my amp, the TV and changes to the input for the console.

I think there is some confusion on the specific HDMI-CEC control I'm referring to.

With the TV off: if I switch on the xbox then it turns on the TV and switches to the xbox input

With the TV already on: if I switch on the xbox it does nothing but I want it to automatically switch to the xbox input and there appears to be no option in the xbox menus to enable this

The Nintendo Switch in comparison can do both of the above

I just gave mine a try with just the TV on. When I started the Xbox, it flicked over to that input.

I just went to try mine and it worked! 😂

It never used to work on my OneX and have only gone back to thinking about it in the past few days after I got a SeriesX so I must have missed that an update at some point had enabled it.  Perhaps it was in that September 2021 thing that was mentioned earlier?

Anyway, thanks for correcting me and making me properly re-try it!!

Aye thats great but whadda 'bout my question, eh! ta. So i take it atm you can't navigate the dash with a tv remote?

Yeah, you can get a media remote for it. I had a similar one for my One X, as that was all TV, TV, TV, but not sure why you’d really need one now.

Edit: Oh, you want to use your TV remote to control your Xbox. Not sure you can do that.

Speaking of the need for remotes, is there a way to prevent the xbox controllers from turning off? I can't seem to find the option for it.

Yes please. My god when the controller turns off with headphones plugged in and the sound starts BLASTING out the tv speakers at midnight like nooooooo.

So, the first Series X I bought from the Microsoft Store last week I gave over to my nephew for his birthday. It states on the site that it is one console per customer, does anyone know if that is one at a time or does Microsoft track any purchases your account made and count that as your one console?

I'm considering using the trick with buying Microsoft credit from cdkeys that @Isaac posted on the bargains thread but I obviously do not want to buy all that credit and just as I go to complete the order I get rejected.

🤣

I hated the controllers turning off back when I needed to use my xbox to access streaming apps where they weren't available directly on my old bravia. Thanks for that Sony.

When I got mine last week I actually ordered 2 because it appeared to error both times with "oops something went wrong" and the actual confirmation emails did not appear for about 30 minutes. I had to manually cancel one of them so their one per customer check might not actually work very well. I'd give it a go 'normally' to see if it is possible to get a second one without any tricks.

It let me try and get a third one too which my ccard declined, I assume as it thought 3 purchases in a few minutes was dodgy.

I ordered a second series x from the Microsoft store, just the normal way as I did not want to take chances with over £400, and it seems fine so far. I guess I will know for definite if they take the money. This one is mine, no nephews with a birthday this week.

I'm going all in with xbox this generation, I am paid up until April 2025 on game pass and as I said before I really want to play games like Cyber Punk and Senua's next adventure in 4k 60. Not to mention all the great games on gamepass or the backwards compatibility.

I have come to the realisation these last couple of years that I enjoy the idea of playing Nintendo games more than I enjoy actually playing them. I think I simply have a lot of nostalgia for Nintendo.

These days I much more enjoy western devolper games like Skyrim, The Witcher and such like which xbox excels in.

Unfortunately you won’t be play cyberpunk in 4k60 for too long on the series x as it very rarely reaches 4k60 with its Dynamic scaling

Is there any way to stop the console throttling downloads if you are playing a game at the same time?

22 hours ago, Sane said:

No, it even throttles them if you are on the dashboard but have a game running in the background

It's very annoying alright.

It's a good idea but poorly executed.

Yeah, I just don't get why it still throttles downloads when you are on the dash with a game suspended.  When I close the game my typical xbox download speed goes up from 15 to 100 meg in a few seconds.
