My son wants to go back to FH3, to play the hot wheels expansion. I've got it on the external spinning rust drive and, honestly, it whips about as quickly as FH5 running off the internal drive. It's just a bloody marvel how much quality-of-life improvement there is for older games.

Literally the only negative about FH3 is they didn't add a 60fps mode in when they patched in the enhancements. Apparently when it started development they never factored it in so it wasn't feasible, otherwise it's just as much a marvel as 4 and 5. I wish it had seasons though.

No fps boost for FH2 is a real shame, too. It’s silly how good the first game looks at 4K60.

I had an issue with my right trigger sticking this week. Very annoying, but as it turns out, it’s a very quick fix - no need to take the pad apart, just pop a single panel off and give the bit under the trigger a clean with some IPA and you’re done. If anyone has the same problem, definitely give it a go.

I didn’t think original Forza Horizon had been FPS boosted. It still looks great - I played it earlier in the year, and while it was 30fps, it was an exceptionally smooth 30fps, somehow. I assume there’s some extremely well-implemented motion blur or similar.

Anyone have a recommendation for a decent value iPhone mount that will work on a Series X controller.

I looked this up before but didn't end up buying it, but the Moga Mobile Gaming Clip seemed to get very good reviews.

EDIT: You’ll need the 2.0 version for the series controller.

I also played it and it was certainly 30fps at that point, noticeably.

But like you I kinda forgot that after a while.

Well, the one thing I don't like about Xbox as a whole since the 360 days are the controllers. Not the design, which is great, but their reliability - from stick drift in all my 360 pads to the Elite disintegrating as soon as the warranty was up with the LB button crunching to a halt and the rubber grips peeling off, there's always something that buggers up.

This time it's not actually the pad, which is nice. It's the play and charge Series X kit, which is now refusing to charge. I've tried cleaning the contacts (no rubbing alcohol or anything, just a cloth) putting it into another pad (20th anniversary one, which is pretty sexy) and trying to charge it with my PC's ports rather than the Xbox via USB C lead.

None of it worked. Now I don't get a charging animation when it's plugged in, and if the controller battery icon moves from empty at all it stays permanently at red, dying after about two minutes of use. Can't find a fix online, so that's... really quite disappointing. I don't fancy buying play and charge kits every six months.

Just venting. The lead's pretty big so I can use it from my seat, but I started using it for PC and Xbox so now I'd have to swap the lead over. I'm lazy, and don't want to do this.

Oh! Just in case people don't know, you can use one pad for both. Connect it to your PC via Bluetooth (or phone, I guess) and you can hold the sync button to connect to the PC or double tap it to revert back to controlling the Xbox. Super handy for anyone who uses both frequently.

I'm using one of these, lasts a lot longer than the official one and I've not had any problems like you seem to be suffering. Also two in the box so a ready to use spare if required.

Just to confirm this is for the Series pads onwards... doesn't work on the older pads (including the older BT ones).

Agree. Think the 360 pad is still my favourite pad of all time... really comfortable controller even more so than the Xbox One upgrade IMHO. Can't say I've had a huge amount of problems with any pad TBH although I only average perhaps 5/6 hours a week game time (if that!).

Was about to buy that on your recommendation, but  won't add to basket - says there's one in stock, but I guess someone grabbed it and it's not updated yet.

Thanks, though! The fact there's two of them's nice, less chance of being left batteryless after a malfunction, and I do have two pads - though my 20th anniversary one's on standby.

@Kayin Amoh - I have these and no problems so far (also two in the box including a split cable that charges both at once):

Appreciate it! I'm a little wary though, one of the customer reviews shows that one literally melted in an uploaded photograph - I know it'll be a one in a million chance, but... ouch.

Still smarting that an official one lasted something like six to eight months. I love the Series X pad, it's incredibly comfortable, but MS always seem to have something that's just ever so slightly unreliable tied to their pads.

Probably a bit unlucky... have some old 360 pads that still work fine here and the Xbox One controller that I use on my PC has an official play and charge kit in that I bought years ago and still hold its charge well. Have you tried to see if MS will do anything under warranty? If its only 6-8 months old worth a try I guess?

But that is coming, I linked to a story on it a while back. Excellent feature, I've got both Series pads also linked to my PC so I can just flit back and forth without thinking, and the kids know to tap the sync button if the pads "don't work" with the Xbox because dad has been on his laptop.

I feel compelled to point out that Butcher is currently £2.39 in the sale, and it's one of my favourite games of the last few years. It's like a SNES game you found sealed in a cursed sarcophagus in some kind of mad sci-fi chapel, shrouded in mist and accompanied by sinister John Carpenter synth tones. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the look of the game, it was developed by a lot of the same people as Carrion, so it's got the same insanely gory pixel art, with a slightly grimier finish and some stunning parallax backgrounds. Imagine a cross between Abuse and Cannon Fodder, or alternatively Contra and a straight to video sci-fi action film from 1991.

It's a bit rough and ready - or, if you prefer, no-nonsense - but I absolutely loved it - it's got this Syndicate-on-the-Amiga level of casual brutality in the way that you can torment the poor enemy soldiers to an absurd degree. Definitely worth the price of a nice pastry from a posh cafe.

I can only say from my experience, it's all good - no issue at all so far and they last a decent amount of time. I have the 1100 version, not the 850 one for reference.

If that changes, and anything melts lol, I'll update!

Ha, let's hope you don't have to post that one! Seriously, I'm sure it's fine - if that was a common thing it'd be pulled from sale, and Amazon reviews are questionable at best.

I actually got a restock of the first one Lorfarius suggested, but thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, it's a YMMV thing. I've owned every Xbox, all within a year of their launches and have 0 xbox controller failures.

Whereas 2 of my 3 PS4 controllers are pretty bollocksed.

Ooh that's good to know, my OG XB1 controller is used on my PC good to know that I can have it as a second controller on the Series X.

For the love of god, why am I still fishing around in draws for AA batteries - one week in and the batteries need replacing. I still don't know why MS haven't moved away from this 80s tech... I know I'm in a minority here, but I HATE AA batteries, I remember getting my first walkman with a proper rechargeable battery and saying farewell to rechargeable batteries, a walkman over 25 years ago. Now my options are a shit and expensive official play and charge kit that seems to not work after a while which is a disgrace for an official product, eneloops or generating lots of waste by buying cheapo batteries from poundland...
