I've just wrapped the main story on Sunset Overdrive the other night and collected most of the collectibles (except for the toilet roll, graffiti, and sunset overdrive signs). I'm not sure how well it ran on Xbox One or anything, but on the X it's been an absolute joy zipping around the environment and dealing with the hordes of enemies.

Now to find the next past generation game that I might have missed - any suggestions?

Someone please buy it so it can be announced for Game Pass immediately afterwards.

It was on Gamepass a year or so ago. Not saying it won't return, but it's probably not high on the list.

Mad Max is worth 6 quid of anyone's money. It's very samey but the handling is wonderfully chunky and for a game that's based entirely in a desert it's achingly beautiful more often than not. Even if you never finish it you wouldn't begrudge the pittance you paid.

Also I defy anyone familiar with Blackadder to think of the Magnum Opus by its real name and not the Magnificent Octopus any time it crops up in dialogue.

If we are getting in some preemptive console warring going off the back of a news story there will also be lots of lads the other way who had no interest in the likes of Death Stranding and 2 hour end credits suddenly hailing him the Second Coming (which he is).

Death stranding was overrated. The new game will likely be overrated. Metal Gear Solid 1 is the only decent game he's done.

MGSV is exceptionally good from a mechanical perspective. It's also full of brilliant touches which add so much personality and atmosphere. The story is garbled and unfinished but strangely affecting, at times. I much preferred it to any of his other games.

I tried. I really did try to get into MGS V but by then I'd tried 3 and 4.  MGS 2 I was still pissed about the fucking bait and switch and just decided that he's a guy that wants to either make movies or he's a terrible writer with no one to tell him to stop spouting shit.   I get that he's still a trophy to be shown off by each platform holder at the moment so fair play to them but yeah.  Overrated in my opinion and weirdly given a pass for some dodgy stuff with some barely dressed character.  hahaha that Kojima he's so silly.

I wish someone had the wherewithal to tap Kojima on the shoulder and tell him he’s fucking shit at writing a coherent story.

And then smack him in the face a few times so he got the message.

He has fantastic ideas, and he knows how to make decent gameplay, but what he is ‘t and never will be, is someone who understands how to write.

Death Stranding as an idea is fantastic. As a game it’s pretty good. But the absolute drivel that was the story is so appalling as to render the game almost unplayable because I found myself getting so irrationally angry about it all.

I keep on thinking it’s just him taking a colossal piss on his fans and knowing exactly how bad it all is, but happy to roll around in his wee-covered money because he’s made so many people think he’s some kind of genius.

I'd only played MGS1 at the time so didn't care about any of the writing or characters or whatever froth. I played it as an exceptional stealth action game and that's what it remains. You could pretty much ignore the story unless you chose to engage with the tapes. I would sometimes leave them playing en route to missions but largely for flavour than narrative.

I loved the story in Death Stranding but it needed editing. Less is more. Too many times he'd come up with an intriguing concept only to have one of the cast come in and explain it all for the next 20 minutes. Like save that stuff for the director's commentary!

The middle third of Death Stranding is still one of the high points of last gen for me.

I was just thinking how silly this is, because I really like MGS2 and wasn’t bothered at all by Raiden, until I remembered that I hated MGS5 because David Hayter wasn’t doing the voice anymore, so into the bin it went.

I’m being slightly facetious. There are other reasons why I couldn’t gel with that game. But I’d be lying if I said the voice wasn’t a big one. Not my Snake, man. Did you know Hayter had to audition for every single game? I read an interview with him where he blames Kojima personally, thinks the guy didn’t like him and was sore that he couldn’t get a proper Hollywood actor to do Snakes voice.

And what did he do when he finally did get a big name star? He certainly didn’t get him to do very much dialogue, that’s for sure. What a fucking waste. Hate that game.

Trust your instincts, you're also being silly.

Mad Max

Completely uninspired 360 generation collect 'em up gameplay, very simple Batman lite fighting system matched with great car combat and the best explosions ever.

I love it because it basically has no challenge beyond doing the same shit over and over again but 60 fps and those explosions paused in the photo mode keep me coming back for more.

Wait for a sale. It was recently down to £2.49.

Just had a quick browse and looks like physical copies are hovering around £10, so £6 for digital seems like a good deal. I'll wait a week or two just in case it goes on sale but £6 for something which (looking at reviews) will let me a month or two is pretty good :)

I was wanting to get AC: Valhalla at some point, but it's still around £40 physical everywhere I look.

Anyone know how to actually buy or had success installing the ‘upgrade for series x’ - for wreckfest? it prompts me to press y to do so, in the game menu, but takes me to an empty screen and I can’t find it in store?!

Same here, I wonder if it's because I'm playing via game pass? Either that or the upgrade has been pulled.
