Xbox Series X | S

Best bet for NON Series games, is an SSD and a USB3.1 connector. They are cheaper than "external SSD's" and work the same, any non series game will load faster from it. DF did a video showing the benefits, its in the box below.

I got the Crucial MX500 1TB for both Series X and PS5 and it's great. I did some cursory research and it basically performs as well as the Samsung in the Digital Foundry video, except it's available for as little as £67.  Whack a stock alert on Camel Camel Camel and grab it when it's cheap.

I noticed earlier that my Series X was a lot quieter through my headphones than my other consoles and apps like Netflix and Spotify. From fiddling around with the audio settings, it looks like Dolby Atmos for Headphones is the culprit. In order to have it enabled you have to have 'HDMI Out' selected in the audio settings menu on the console, but this reduces the volume of everything by about half as soon as you turn it on, so I've just turned off Atmos altogether for now.

Am I missing something here? I couldn't see a way to turn the volume up to normal levels with Atmos enabled. To tell the truth, I'm not entirely convinced by Atmos through headphones, anyway. I'm sure it's amazing if you have a proper 7.1 speaker setup, but even through decent headphones and a dedicated amp, I don't notice much difference from regular stereo sound.

This shouldn't be the case at all. I plug my headphones into my controller and set headphones output to Dolby Atmos, it works great and sounds superb.

It might be because my headphones are plugged into my headphone amp, which in turn is connected to my TV via optical. They're not plugged into the controller. I'd have thought that the sound quality through the controller wouldn't be as good as it would be through my amp, but then it will probably replicate virtual 7.1 a lot better through the controller than the amp. I'll give it a go next time I play.

Have you tried adjusting headset volume via the Xbox OS? Just bring up the Guide and select the audio mixer button at the bottom of the menu.

Surely that way you're not even getting Atmos as your amp will convert to stereo?

Hence him not hearing much difference

Well I thought this to begin with, but then the Dolby Atmos app gives you the option to choose how your headphones are connected to the TV, and optical is one of the options, which is how my amp is connected to the telly, so I chose that as I supposed that Dolby wouldn't give you the option to connect that way if Atmos didn't work via that particular connection.

But, thinking on it, I'm probably wrong 🙃

Yes, tried this but no difference.

I think @Hitcher and @deerokus are correct and it just doesn't work through the amp. Although, I don't really understand why as it's only 'virtual' 7.1 and technically still stereo sound, so it should be able to run through anything, but I'll check it out next time I play. The 3D audio stuff on the PS5 is the same, only working through the controller.

Anyone know if Xbox One play and charge kit will still fit the new controllers for Series S/X?

Debating whether to throw it in when I attempt this GAME trade-in deal or keep and use again.

They will not as far as I know. I have some venom third party ones and had to buy new ones because the battery covers on the One pad are slightly different to the Series pad.

Apparently you just need to change the cable that you charge with 🙃

My Venom one doesn't fit both, just the original Xbox One controllers.

I have the official Microsoft play and charge kit for Xbox one and it works fine in the Series controllers.  I think it's just 3rd party ones which replace the original battery cover that will not work

Yep, another one here using an Xbox One official battery pack, it works fine.

It's also fucking insane, this thing came with my very first X1, way back in 2014, an it was pre-owned at the time, amazing how it is still functioning.

Only thing you'll be missing using it on the newer controller is the little indicator light that shos it's charging.

Possible E3 surprise?

Maybe it’s crossover DLC? P5 themed cosmetics for a completely different game?

What with Strikers on Switch and Golden coming to PC I have no fucking idea anymore.

If it's an X or S game it HAS to run from the internal, unless you have the official Seagate memory expansion. It won't run off an external, even an SSD.

Some Series S/X games do work from an external SSD. Chances are slim though and even if the do, the load times are longer.

I also used that GAME trade in deal with my wife’s old PS4 so IFGO. I have my PS5 as my main machine but this will be a nice Gamespass box. I think I got a tiny bit screwed though - I traded in some old games and stuff at the same time and had enough credit to buy a 1 year xbox live gold code which I was planning to upgrade to game pass. When I redeemed the code it just gave me £50 MS credit and I can’t find a place to buy a years xbox live gold - any idea how I can do that?

Goto the store on your Xbox, select Home, and goto Subscriptions.
