How come background downloads are really slow 

 

I was playing rain on your parade waiting for a download it was 15-20 megs it said suspend game for faster download .

 

When I suspended it instantly shot up to 150?

To not hog the bandwidth if you're playing online. Steam even (used to?) pauses downloads when you launch a game and I alt-tab out to activate them again before returning to the game. They may have added an option to keep downloads running, I don't recall, but it used to be like that. They don't detect whether Rain on Your Parade even has multiplayer and just rain on your parade. Say la Fee

Everything about it all is just wonderful. I only stuck the app on thanks to rgraves to speed up the install but I started playing around with it whilst I was eating my TV and noticed the remote play feature. Soon realised I could power it on whilst I was in bed and start downloading gamepass games, left it churning away with 300GBs worth so should be able to do some serious gaming tonight on Halo!

I’m a bit surprised that my 44 year old self is having a hard time waiting for my new Xbox now that I’ve ordered and paid for one. The next three weeks are going to go by so slowly, I feel like a six year old at the beginning of December waiting for Santa.

I had a weird bug with it yesterday. I was playing Yakuza 5 (which Quick Resumes reliably every time) and my son came in wanting to play Fortnite. So I went back to the Home screen and signed out, he then logged in and played. When I came back to Yakuza later, it had somehow associated my Quick Resume save with his profile, and insisted I delete it before I could play.

Was just looking for a game called Huntdown on the phone app. According to the Xbox store its about £20 but when I search on the phone it has a green "install to console" button. Clicked that but nothing happens and can't see any mention of Gamepass on its page.

The app does installs, but not billing. So you can order a game to download, but you'll be prompted to pay for it when you try to use it.

you can download anything on the Xbox to preinstall before buying, when you try to load it you will get a message saying you don’t own it.

Thanks both, its a bit weird how it doesn't say anything. I thought it wasn't connecting and just tried it several times with no success, simple prompt saying a charge would be applied later would solve that.

Yes, as long as you have a licence somehow, the software will run off the hard drive

I'm giving serious thought to flogging my PS5 thanks to Gamepass. There's stuff on here I was going to buy for the PS5 but its out and out free, saved about £100 up front for those and I will easily get through them in time. Beyond GOW and FF7 there's not much to keep my interest over on Sony's machine.

You'll find that Apple, Sonos, Microsoft also have 100% recyclable packaging now.

I should have added expandable storage, quick resume, games under £60 and of course gamepass should be the go-to weapons in the war, not the box. 

 

Choose better,  soldiers.

I think PS5's been hard to get has actually been a good thing for me. Early on I was toying over getting one mainly to play with Astrobot and upgrading my PC. Then I luckily ended up with the opportunity of getting a Series X so went with that. Not looked back. Never upgraded the PC and use the Series X most of the time for gaming. My PC plays all the older content and retro games really well. So worked out really well for me.

 

I now have little desire to get a PS5 so my FOMO levels are actually negative at the moment. Japan Studio shuttered was the latest thing Sony have done to move me away from their platform. Not saying I'll never pick one up but as time moves on less inclined... Looking forward to what they do with the next iteration of VR - because that and something like GT would be pretty special... Not that I will actually be ever able to actually buy one when they get released anyway.

The best stuff to get released on the platform is probably years away anyway. So the hardware will be more freely available (hopefully!) and the games available to play. 

 

Anyway not wanting this to be misconstrued as derailing the thread into a "console warz" type one. Just a few reasons why I didn't really chase a PS5 down. In fact I wasn't really going to buy any console this gen and stick with the PC. But then COVID (lack of CPU/GPUs/General PC components at sensible prices), been unemployed for a bit (Lack of funds for a PC) a year or so ago changed that. For the good IMHO. XSX and GPU has my gaming sorted for years now.

im the exact opposite i was lucky enough to get both on their release date without any effort .

 

ive enjoyed my PS5 experience so far but I’m already on my second series X with 3 years game pass sold the first one within weeks and this new one I paid over rrp just sits there again

I'm certain that my Series X is going to be my main console this gen. I suppose I might get a PS5 a few years down the line, when hopefully it no longer looks like a stormtrooper's backpack and I can pick up all the sad dad simulators for £15 a pop. Then again I might not. Game Pass gives me pretty much all I need, and for everything else there's Reward points.

Not quite. Depends on where you are for stuff like styrofoam in the Series X packaging.

Out of interest just had a quick look at the X packaging and it's all recyclable. The foam is LDPE 4 which is recyclable but obviously less so then paper or card as less places can probably recycle it.

 

Anyhow if we look at from another point of view we are buying stuff that isn't really environmently friendly anyway full of plastics and lots of other chemicals etc. I guess every little helps but perhaps we should find other more environmently sound hobbies if we care about the environment that much. Or at least use our old stuff until it breaks and then replace it rather than continuously upgrading and have built in obsolescence in products we buy.

 

Anyhow... It's Friday I'm going to stick a game on and chill out....

You open the box, set up the console, and put the box away somewhere safe, you don't throw it away, you keep it to put the console back in when you sell it / send it bck for repair!
