Gears Tactics was released less than six months ago on console. Minecraft Dungeons too, although as that's on Switch I guess it's not really an exclusive.

Nintendo's cadence has massively slowed with loads of industry stories about them really struggling with the pandemic (as they had zero remote-working capabilities) and has been exemplified by their first Direct in 12 months being one where they showed a new Golf game and a remake of a Wii Zelda game, and that was about it.

Again, of course it has slowed development, but they still managed to put games out, as did Sony.

no idea why anyone would expect starfield, or for it to be any good.

Several industry people on various podcasts (including Danny on the Giant Bomb podcast) have said Starfield is a lot further along than people realise. And the Bethesda model is announce -> silent for years -> infodump six months before release -> release.

But given the pandemic I don't think it'll be this year. Early 2022 is definitely possible though.

The rumours are that the whole MS & Bethesda deal really started moving quickly when Sony started trying to buy a Starfield exclusivity deal too.

Exactly why people think/hope that there are some nearly finished Bethesda games waiting in the wings.

And iirc didn't they start pre-production for Starfield right after Skyrim? It's been in development for aaaaaaaages

I think its more than just Covid that has stalled MS AAA first party output.

People forget that it wasn't long ago that MS were literally shutting studios and battling to change the ship around. New studios they purchased was what, 2018, and those studios were in the midst of already developing projects for all platforms at the time (Outerworlds etc).

Also, games like Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tsushima were in development for years. In fact Last of Us 2 was delayed by a year before Covid struck (as well as under heavy crunch conditions).

I will say that the whole Halo Infinite debacle still puzzles me though. How a game as big as that can be presented in such a fashion at a major games presentation for them boggles belief. I feel like it was the opposite of crunch with 343 being given to much freedom and time from MS. Either way, bad project management and I will be surprised if it even makes this years release date.

I always think this is a funny idea. Todd did say before Fallout 4 that they’d decided to shorten the time between announcement and release (which was four months for Fallout 4 as opposed to 11 for Skyrim). But the idea of a Bethesda “model” isn’t really viable when it’s so long between your games. In the time it takes them to release a new one the industry has changed substantially, and any model they come up with is destined to last two or three games at most before it’s rendered obsolete by the inexorable passing of time. The only thing that doesn’t change is Todd saying there’s been such a major overhaul to the engine that it’s basically a brand new one before releasing a game that looks and feels the same and has bugs from Oblivion in it.

After Fallout 3 I think? It’s been in some form of development for a solid 13 years, with rumours about it for nearly that long. I wouldn’t be shocked to see it this year. It’s Elder Scrolls VI I’m sceptical about, I don’t think we’ll see that this generation.

I think Halo Infinite will make this year. We are going to see a huge infodump of it at E3 next month I imagine, that Microsoft will really have to nail to turn the ship around. But either way it's coming out this winter.

I think I'm with you there, Elder Scrolls VI isn't coming for years. It's the same team as the one making Starfield, so until that's out all that's happening is art/concept work.

I wouldn't be surprised if ES6 is still in pre-production. They only revealed that working title to shut people up - yes, we're going to do it eventually.

I also believe that Starfield was probably set to release this year or even late 2020 given all the industry rumours around it - but the final round of polish was probably delayed due to covid. Maybe late 2021 but who knows at this point, even if it's nearly finished nothing is guaranteed at this point.

They announced Halo Infinite was pretty much feature complete since late last year. This year has been polishing up the graphics. I really think it'll be out this year - 15th November is the 20th anniversary of the first game so I'm sure they're aiming for that.

I really hope Flight Sim is shaping up well on Series, I’ll be happy with just that tbh, July I think it’s set for and I can’t wait. I’m hoping there is going to be some super deluxe edition with a flight stick and all the content.

Yeah and given that the team only got one game out last gen I think it’s pretty clear that they’re taking longer to make now as well.

Quite why I'd never even heard of Starfield before now is a mystery.  Just read up about it and it sounds like it could be just my kind of game (if it's space Skyrim).

Game Pass day 1 as it's Bethesda?

It’s in a weird place where the fans have been talking about it as a rumour for ten years but the official confirmation it existed was only three years ago and there’s nothing but a really short teaser available.

I'd be very surprised if we don't see a load more of it (including a live demo) next month at their big E3 show.

Particularly as Bethesda are still having a separate show, rather than being just a smaller part of MS' presentation.

Have MS announced when their summer show is? I’m pretty much pinning my hopes on them showing off some amazing games and them finally having some release dates attached.

They seem to have launched the consoles quite well, so now it’s time for the games.

Like I said, considering all the industry rumours I totally believe that Starfield was really far along - maybe even set for late 2020 or else sometime in 2021. Which might now become 2022 due to covid delays. But either way, it probably means it's ready to show if Microsoft so desires. I can imagine Microsoft wants to make a good impression around what used to be E3 time and Starfield sounds like something that will get people talking. I wouldn't be surprised if we get at least a proper trailer if not gameplay footage.

They've been very quiet on new games etc.., I’m expecting a megaton of a show, something to really launch the new consoles and Game Pass of course.

We're about seven weeks away from E3 and I expect Microsoft to have a fairly strong showing. Halo and Starfield, if the rumours are to be believed, will be the two biggest things they show and that seems like a very solid base to build off. We can almost take it for granted that Flight Sim will be shown running on Series S/X and we'll probably get updates on Psychonauts and Hellblade as well. I don't see any value in them doing any more Perfect Dark/Fable/Avowed style announcements of games that are years and years away so hopefully they focus on showing gameplay style footage.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see what Compulsion have been working on and whatever that thing Jez Corden was hinting at when he posted that swirly emoji which apparently makes perfect sense when you know what the game is. I personally, have not got a clue.

Maybe a few day one on Gamepass style announcements?

Personally I think this is going to be the big one. The new studios aren't going to suddenly supply then with a load of games in the short term (unless they have stuff almost ready which in most cases we would have already heard about). I would imagine they have been busy sigining up as many things to GP day one as possible, along the lines of Outriders. The other thing could be a link up with Ubi.

Oh yeah, what happened with the rumour about Kojima?

Xbox youtube/twatters are running with a new Kojima Metal Gear/MGS1 remake based on hopes and dreams. Ignoring the realities of ownership of the license or that Bluepoint were heavily rumoured to be making an MGS1 remake exclusive to Playstation.

The Typhoon emoji game is deliberately misleading but he does claim to know about 3-4 xbox exclusives coming from 3rd party devs of a AAA stature. However he's doubtful any of them will be revealed any time soon.

Forza Horizon 5 latest rumours are that it is scheduled for 2021 and is set in Mexico.

Supposedly Bloober Team are making the next Silent Hill. Which is bit like announcing Villeneuve's Dune and then cancelling that and replacing him with Paul W.S. Anderson.
