Yeah, Microsoft don't make it too straightforward to understand the various forms - they really just want to get everyone on Ultimate! I should probably clarify that most games will generally be on the service for many months before leaving it (and that Microsoft games without licensing issues are permanent fixtures) - it's just that each game is on its own timeframe, and the service has been running long enough now that it means you're getting games leaving every month, as well as new games every week!

You download the games on your console or PC  or steam them to your phone/browser. You keep the save files and can buy the games at a a 20% discount while they are on the service. To be honest each month the games leaving announcements are generally less games than were added and with a few exceptions (MGSV/GTAV/RDR2) are generally the smaller titles that you rarely noticed were there to begin with.

I've  considered cancelling my GP a couple of times as I tend to play very few of the games added to it each month and I already had EA Access which I rarely used. Along with having acquired the majority of first party games on it over the last gen in sales/ Games with Gold etc... However they just keep adding more and when I do get around to trying a selection from it. Even just a couple of smaller indie games works out economically better than if I'd bought them.

Its pretty far from a pay for demos service. Carry on though between getting the price wrong and desperate critique maybe you'll land a genuine concern if you throw enough shite at a wall eventually some of it will stick I guess. Although god knows I've tried over the years but Sony are the Teflon Dons of this game. I admire your tenacity though.

Sony fanboy here so take my impressions with a grain of salt. Using gamepass just on the PC has been a gamechanger. If you're interested in indie games it's well worth using. If I just look at the indie games I've finished I've already saved quite a bit of money. I suspect if I bought a Series X (and it's looking like that's on the cards to replace my aging 360) I might not have enough time left over each month to play PS5 games.

It's a bit of a no-brainer value wise.

Ah I thought it was just £15! Sounds like it's just demo play for a month.

Games are typically on the service for at least 12 months. First party games don't leave the service.

So sure, it's demo play if "demo play" means having access to a full version of a game to download and play at your whim for at least 12 months.

It's just the Netflix model, where first party stuff is forever on there and they have a rotation of third-party movies / TV shows.

Yet kind of ironically you’ll probably find you’ve probably saved a good chunk of the £70 needed to buy (some of) them too :).

It’s fantastic (IMO) in that gives great savings and it really does introduce people to games (and even genres such is the size of its catalogue) that they might not have previously tried. That’s great for MS (people spend more time on their platform), developers (more and new  people sample their wares) and gamers (regular additions of all types which you can try risk free keep gaming fresh) alike.

In over 35 years of gaming I’d say it’s likely the best value / most exciting (content wise) deal I’ve

seen by some margin and one that’s got me spending more time gaming (yet with a lower spend) than ever before :)

What's so good about Game Pass? I was about to buy a series X as I was under the impression the GP library was packed with great things but looking at the website list and it's not the best of choices. Have I missed something like every 360/original Xbox game is tucked away somewhere? I can't see much that is worth £15 a month?

I’ve been using it since Forza Horizon 4’s launch in October 2018, am paid up till February 2024, and have never come close to paying £15, or £11, per month. even after the first three years conversation, I’m going to be paying half that at most for the remainder. Without ever letting it expire either...

So do you download or stream the games? If it's removed when the time runs out do you lose things like save files?

No offence mate, but where the hell have you been for the past 2 years?

Sold my Xbox One X in 2016, had a PS4 for about a year whenever Spiderman 4 came out and never touched the next gen since. Been playing loads of PS4 stuff on my launch PS5 and thinking I should get an X after hearing lots of different things about GP. Don't really play modern stuff these days so all really new to me.

It blows my mind that it's about the same amount I used to pay for computer magazines with demo tapes/disks/CD's back in the day with that same sense of discovery. Except it's the full game.

Sure sometimes the game will expire before you get to play most of it but it's led me to some purchases I otherwise would not have made.

I’d not made the connection, but at the average price I’ve actually paid for next two and a bit years - even ignoring the first three years, you’re entirely right.

except not adjusted for inflation.

I’m paying less for it than my edge sub.

@Lorfarius game pass ultimate now also includes EA Access...so its basically access to around 300+ games. Its like netflix for games.

If you get the 3 years for £150ish, its a bargain, full price...little harder to justify.

But then, sony think they can charge £70 for MLB the show...and it came out on gamepass day one...

It's every important game for the system on day 1.

I'm not sure what other selling is needed here.

If Returnal wasn't Sony it'd be on game pass and that's 6 months of game pass sub price right there.

Which in theory is great, in practice there haven’t  been any yet.

I mean in theory if Spider-Man Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls, Astro Bot & Returnal were MS published titles they’d all be on Game Pass, but they’re not.

Point being the idea of getting every new first party Microsoft game is great, in reality we’re still waiting.

Apart from gears 5, forza horizon 4, sea of thieves, crackdown, gears tactics, the age of empires remasters on PC, flight sim on PC and countless others.
Gamepass didn’t just start with the series X launch.

Fair enough but it does feel like the really special first party stuff, eg all the games promised by all those studios they bought, are still not here yet. And that once they finally start arriving, it will be incredible to have all of that available day one and permanently on gp.

That's not even close to being true - loads of third party stuff isn't on Game Pass day one, or ever for that matter. Microsoft first party is day one but it's a bit of stretch to imagine that constitutes 'every important game' for the system.

“Every important exclusive” then. Because the very unlikely there will be non Microsoft exclusives.

Always funny to be labelled a fanboy by you, Jon. Which bit do your imagine to be nonsense? That most third party games don't come to Game Pass day one, or that Microsoft, currently, have an issue with exclusives? The first is an unassailable fact, as for the second - even posters like Boozy, not known for his moderate views on Xbox, (although curiously a lone voice of reason in this thread of late) has pointed out in much stronger terms than I that Microsoft has fallen way short of the mark in recent years.

It's the nitpicking I like the best. Yes most of us got the intent of the posts from some people saying why they like GP.   Sure they could have been more precise. But let's call out the impreciseness.  JUST SO EVERYONE KNOWS!!!

So much fun.

It was pretty obvious Dudley meant first party exclusives, but you’re over exaggerating things that make it sound very fanboy-y!

You’re definitely right in that the Xbox One generation was a bad one for them, but they’re properly back on track now and it’s only a matter of time before the exclusives start coming.

It comes across that you’re trying really hard to shit on things, but they’ve got amazing hardware now and they’ve invested heavily to bring the games.

I’m not sure why you find it funny to be labelled a fanboy by me. I appreciate what MS, Sony and Nintendo are all doing and I love different aspects of them all. In fact, I can’t wait to get hold of a PS5 once they’ve redesigned it and there’s a library of killer exclusives. I’ve personally got no reason to enter into the fanboy nonsense. This was supposed to be a thread about if people are happy with their purchase, not nitpicking silly things to make sure your allegiance is known.
