That's the upside, but now that I think about it this is probably also a sign that we shouldn't expect 100% QR support for the entire Xbox library anytime soon.

I'm more concerned that a lot of games do support it, but it's not reliable - like about one time in four it just doesn't activate. So you can't rely on it as a means of suspending a game. And the "suspend to memory" feature seems flakier on the Series X than it did on the One X too.

The Switch and the PS4 both have reliable sleep modes so I'd really like the Series X to be able to manage it too. Just being able to check if something is successfully suspended is going to be a huge improvement.

Had a really annoying thing happen.

I use my X and S for the same games, switching between the two. As others have said it usually syncs everything perfectly. Even when a QR title has a save state on one console and you launch on the other.

I was playing Control mainly on my X. I fired up my S and it somehow overwrote my more recent cloud save with my S save. I then fired up the X to try and sync the later save on that to the cloud but, you guessed it, it synced the older cloud save to the X. I’ve lost about 4 hours progress and not sure I can be bothered to play it again. It definitely didn’t ask me if I wanted to overwrite so assume it was a glitch.

If I was playing over 2 consoles I'd make sure I saved and quit each time before switching consoles. They're only going to sync proper saves and not QR states.

I still always save my game before I turn my console off, it's just years of habit at this point. That way quick resume is a really nice bonus when it works (which is a lot of the time to be fair) and just a minor inconvenience when it doesn't rather than a progress destroyer.

Why’s that? They include a stand specifically designed to offer that option and use a mixture of horizontal and vertical imagery across their sites.

The stand only screws in if you put it vertically.

If it's horizontal it sort of slots in but feels like something poundland would reject for quality. It fell out twice just me trying to get the PS5 on the shelf under the TV and there is nothing other than flat printing to help you place it at all.

That a console needs a stand to be horizontal is already a bit pap.

I think it screws in vertically as otherwise it would be too easy to knock over/out of the stand. I agree the design is not the best (it should clip in or something) but it works perfectly well when in place and is presumably there to allow airflow round the console. I don’t think this reflects on whether they want you to use it or not, both are clearly options.

Control auto saves every time you use a control point which is every 20 mins or so. I wasn’t relying on the save states though they were nice to have. What should have happened with the S went to overwrite the cloud save is that it should have asked me if I wanted to overwrite the newer version. But it didn’t. Not sure why.

I do think it will mean I’ll be more careful. Maybe quitting out of the game entirely if I’m gonna play on another console. In my case they’re in the same room so it’s not a massive problem.

I do wonder how QR is selected for games by MS. I have come across a number of old XB1 games that do not QR now (Red Faction Gurrellia immediately springs to mind).

I just assumed it was default for all games unless MS had flagged a game as otherwise. I know a lot of the Series games sit in this category like Dirt 5 and WD Legion.

Works perfectly for the Yakuza games, however has anyone had that slight "hitch" in a game after launching from QR? Usually a few seconds to a minute into playing and from there it's fine, but it's definitely noticeable.

Quick Resume seems to be a work in progress but the progress does mean it keeps improving.

Case in point - for ages Nier Automata simply didn't QR at all. Then it suddenly started QRing but it was flaky at best, and would usually crash within 30 seconds of resuming. Now it seems to be rock solid and it has worked perfectly the last few times I've fired it up. I presume these improvements are due to updates to the game and/or OS but whatever's causing it, it's a good sign. In an ideal world it would have worked perfectly for all games out of the box but we obviously don't live in that world!

But this inherent uncertainty means that I always save in every game before suspending it, just in case. Old habits die hard.

I've not had that but I've definitely had some achievement glitches with QR - Hitman 3 stopped displaying the notifications (but otherwise gave me the achievements) and Titanfall 2 simply stopped giving out achievements entirely. In both cases they were fixed after a full restart of the game in question.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla has a really serious save bug with QR which has resulted in people losing hours of progress. Though that's on Ubisoft rather than MS I think. They're running their own cloud save system in the background as well as MS's solution and it doesn't seem to reconnect to it properly after a Quick Resume.

Happy to be proven wrong, but I’m pretty sure the physical breakdown video Sony released last year showed the screw being popped into a sealable compartment of the stand while the console was in horizontal mode, while the stand just kind of clipped onto the side of the thing.

I've had one game (can't remember which one) where the sound cut out over headphones after quick resume.

For some reason railway empire doesn't support it.

It's so close to being a killer feature that I hope they iron it out.

Here's what the new quick resume tab looks like. Looks perfect.

Ooh, didn't realise there was a tab for games In your QR queue, need to check that out.

On the Ubi games being broken by QR I had exactly this with Immortals, lost 2 hours progress (luckily near the start). I quit the game from the dash every time after that!

Agreed, looks good, I couldn't tell you how many games I have in my queue currently so a very useful feature.

It “clips” in the least chippy or secure way possible. Everyone talking at the time about the amazing nature of the stand design and how Sony thought of everything went very quiet when they actually got one, because it doesn’t even work well when you’re sliding it onto a shelf. It’s very much a form over function stand.

What did the original megaton turn out to be in the end, I can't even remember.

It was a Naruto game for the GameCube.

I know it's not really the right place to post it but it'll likely be gone rather soon so thought I'd let everyone know about it on here. A decent enough (going by the reviews that is) set of gaming headphones here for £13.99 (there's an £8 discount code for you to select before popping them in your basket and then a further 30% off using 85L3ELW4 at the checkout)

Presumably that sort of wizzy architecture needs to be baked into the game so it will be for first part studios to make use of mainly?

Or is it magic stuff that 'just works' for multiformat? Is this going to give Xbox a big advantage over the competition or does PS5 have something similar in its locker?

No think its at API level (Velocity Architecture) - so it will be specific to the Xbox Series devices.
