Xbox Series X | S

Okay, watched it. And yeah, that’s all about games running at 120fps, not a machine outputting 120fps whilst the game itself still renders and runs at 60fps.

A true 120fps game will absolutely reduce input lag (as the transition from 30 to 60 does - see recent Prey BC boost improvements).

The output 120fps with a 60fps game will be the same level of lag.

Anyway, sorry, belaboured all that too much, just interested if somehow I’d misunderstood something fundamental.

Has anyone got remote downloading reliably working? Sometimes it does. Sometimes not. Mixed results from game pass app and /or Xbox store website.

Nope, I’ve the exact same experience with it as you.

The game pass app doesn’t even recognise my Xbox but it’s there on my Microsoft account page, and it’s showing on the Xbox app too. Remote downloading seems hit and miss using either app - and yes I have remote play enabled etc.

After my post a while back about my series x kicking out heat when not in use I changed the power settings to the one that disables all the online updating stuff.

Since then it’s been stone cold while switched off. The PS5 in rest mode doesn’t get hot at all.

Why does it matter what temperature it is? Unless flames are pouring out of the top, obviously.

You’d presume it’s an indication of power usage. Heat means energy. Whether that matters to you is obviously subjective.

You might as well just put it in energy saving. That's what I do unless I'm downloading something. It's super fast to boot from cold.

I do the same now but occasionally switch it to instant on so it'll finish the update queue - it pauses it when you switch off. It's a shame there's no "power down when update is complete" option.

Just over ten minutes left on this. Aaron Greenberg has said that Microsoft will put Series X mini fridges into production if they win. Not sure what Skittles are offering. Cushions?

it can affect the lifetime of the product . For every 10c in temperature, the lifetime of electrolytic capacitors halves.

My consoles live in a cupboard. It’s disconcerting to open that cupboard and be met with a wave of hot air when everything in there is supposedly idle/off.

The case of the machine being hot to the touch when it’s “off” doesn’t strike me as good, and my wife would scream fire hazard if she opened the doors and felt the heat in there.

Oh right, I didn’t realise you had them in a cupboard. It doesn’t sound right though. I’ve got mine set to instant on, but it’s only slightly warm on the front, over near the usb socket. Certainly not hot enough that I’d have any worries it being in a cupboard.

I am absolutely loving my Series X. Quick resume, solid frame rates and the very quick loading times are just blowing my mind. My 4K monitor is doing a phenomenal job, but it’s HDR 800 I think, so I can’t wait to get really hammered one night and just put a 120hz OLED on the credit card

Will PM you my address later, you just bring your credit card, oh and a couple of packs of dry roasted. You can thank me in three days when your hangover’s gone and you can see in 4K again :).

Why are you mad bastards putting electronics that generate heat into places that have very little airflow/ventilation?

I keep my next gen consoles in a drawer as there's fuck all new games to play.
