The Gamepass app is awful.

Not had any issues with it TBH. Queued stuff up for download, played games on it with xCloud etc with no hitches. It's a lot better than it used to be!!! :D

I'm on a Google Pixel on pure Android though not sure if that makes any difference?!

I've a Pixel as well and it runs horribly. Your mileage may vary, I guess!

The Rewards app on the actual Xbox. The Game Pass and Xbox android apps. They're all awful. I just don't understand what's going on, the old Xbox app was rock solid and did a lot more (could even ding achievements before the console you're playing on). I don't know whether they've switched some new app framework, or if some back end services vary in performance by region, or what. But they're absolutely the only apps on my Note 9, aside from Fitbit (a whole new level of utter shite) that are both sluggish, have a tendency to crash, and often have to be coaxed into working.

I wish I had some sort of app performance tools so I could report it on the Insiders thing.

The mobile Gamepass app is miles better than it used to be and yet is still unstable and slow. It was borderline unusable when it first launched though.

Just been playing Hot Shot Racing on my phone with touch controls. Ok touch controls aren't great anyway but impressed with how smooth it is.

For anyone streaming games make sure you are connecting to your WiFi network on 5Ghz not 2.4.

Do you have to ‘claim’ Games With Gold now or are they just automatically added to your library if you have an active subscription?

Still need to be claimed. And still need to have the download immediately cancelled because MS assume you have a hdd measured in exabytes. And once you've cancelled it, the history on the B back button doesn't take you all the way back to the Games with Gold screen, so save yourself some frustration and go there manually.

@MattyP. Yeah, the PS5’s essential in the long run but right here right now, the Series X fits into my life, and my bookcase, better.

Indeed. Happy to wait sure Sony will have some must play games at some point. However it will be a while before I'm ready to jump in. It will be interesting to see how their first party games turn out.

Anyone know why on my LG CX OLED TV, the picture is perfect in all the games but the Xbox guide menu and the little grey notification boxes are all really dull? Like theyre being dimmed significantly?

As I said no other issues with any actual gameplay.

Appreciate any advice. I'm using all the tv settings from the rtings YouTube video as far as I know.

Forza certainly looks pretty. I will overnight download some games I actually want to play! ;)

I can’t see anywhere in the settings but can you choose which version of the game to download? I don’t have a 4K TV yet (sometime this year) and I’d rather have the Series S download sizes.

Loads of stuff on GamePass I want to play and I like the simple design of the console. I’ve got a few gripes so far with the rest of the experience.

  • The UI on this is awful for someone new to modern Xbox.
  • The iOS app loves to hang, give errors, do anything but work smoothly.
  • Goddamn the controller is... awful. Why is everything so clicky?

It's 1080p. That is why.

1080p doesn't mean darker though surely? It text and everything Is totally grey like a dimming effect is over it

It's not HDR either. There's a marked difference for me on my LGCX from  playing any game to going back to the dashboard.

If you’re playing something in HDR and go back to the dash I’m pretty sure it stays in HDR. What Jackson’s describing sounds like a white clipping setting on the TV, nothing to do with resolution or anything.

Also the dash wouldn’t look any different at UHD, that whole thing is such a daft placebo.

I have an odd problem, Wreckfest on Series X be crashes on me right after startup every time. I've tried reinstalling, deleting the saves file, turning off instant game response on my TV - no dice. What's weird is this doesn't seem to be an issue for anyone else, at least not this specific game. Anyone got any ideas?

I had the same problem with the 360 version of Sine Mora running on Xbox One.  I did all the things you have done,  but never solved it.

Edit: solved my issues. It is just the HDR as someone has said. I've calibrated it and got my settings more consistent across different picture modes now :)

If anyone like me wanted a nice new TV/console test btw .. Tetris effect is breathtaking!

Think having the dash run at 1080p is fine to be honest. Why waste system resources doing a 4K dash? It would add nothing and probably make it less responsive and a memory hog. It's functional and quick.

My guess as to the main reason the dash is 1080p though is to keep cross compatibility across all the Xbox consoles. No bad thing either. Also means it will run uber quick on the Series consoles.

After using the Xbox platform for a long while now my favourite least intrusive dash was the original blade setup on the 360. The Xbox One was odd on release but if you'd used a Windows 8 PC and Windows Surface it kind of made sense as they were aiming to unify the look and feel of their devices. Clearly a product of the strategy of the leadership team at the time.

The current one is probably the second best to the 360 they have made. It's still not great but it's much better that what has come before.

There was an issue at one point where if you had the chatpad connected, the game wouldn't boot, but I thought they had patched that. It's the only bug I have heard of that causes the problem you are seeing.
