Interesting, it doesn’t work for me at all. First time the game locked up, second two times none of the content loaded in the game menus. Wonder why it behaves differently for different people?

At a guess... Internet performance characteristics. If the game is always online behind the scenes and it cannot resume it's internet session, or takes too long to respond during resume then it gets screwed up.

The game copes gracefully if you get disconnected mid-session though. In fact it happens all the time!

Oh yeah, don't doubt it. But some timing issue between two systems would need to be in effect. And it strikes me that net performance seems the only likely differential (assuming both players are on the same hardware model and running the game from the same source, i.e. internal SSD).

having sold my launch series x on here I've decided to get another as I'm getting a small bonus this week and I'm a sad case

ive just maxed gamepass and will use it mainly for that

is it worth getting series x over s if its for gamepass

is there any news on them coming back into stock ?

The X's come in stock for minutes at time, but the S's last for an hour so so. There's a twitch stream that warns when they become available.

My experiences with QR so far have been pretty solid. Only games I have had issues with were Immortals and Odyssey, both Ubi games and both requiring some kind of background connection to Ubi servers. In the case of Immortals I believe it was genuinely f'ing up Saves so I manually quit the game after every session.

Everything else has been fine. Been kicking between Skyrim, Yakuza 0 and Tony Hawks 1&2 (weird selection I know) and its fine. I always make sure to manually save just before switching off though, just in case!

Would I be right in thinking that any old headphones with a built in microphone work to enable voice chat, and you don't need a hideous-looking and expensive pair of gaming headphones with call centre microphone attached?

Like, would the Apple headphones that come with an iPhone work?

If you want wireless I believe you have to go with Xbox Specific headphones. But if they can be used wired then you can plug any old set into the controller and use them that way.

Yes sorry I meant the wired headphones with the built in microphone.  We just want to be able to chat in-game and everything else we've tried with our phones has been a bit stressy and compromised. We don't need hardcore elite equipment with names like "Rayzor" or "Steel Series".

If you have some decent headphones you can buy an inline mic to make them a headset ala https://www.amazon.co.uk/V-MODA-BoomPro-Microphone-Gaming-Communication/dp/B00BJ17WKK/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=Mod+mic&qid=1611574859&sr=8-8

Ive not tried Apple headphones in a Xbox pad but I remember they didn’t work with a PS4 pad.

Nice, thanks.  I plugged a pair of over-ear Sony headphones into my Series X controller and a little headset icon appeared in the top-right corner of the screen, and mic options became available, so I assume that's done the job?  My friend did say he couldn't here me, but I think that's because he didn't actually have a pair of headphones plugged in at the time and the system defaults to playing voice audio through headphones only.

Apple chose to wire their socket so that the mic connection isn't in the standard position, presumably so your existing headphones wouldn't work and they'd be able to sell you some. So basically, anything that isn't designed to be used with Apple stuff will work.

Interesting, I guess it's an unintended consequence of Quick Resume in that the disc check for a game is probably only done when you first load it. Quick Resuming it from a snapshot probably just assumes you're still good to go. I hope they keep that feature actually, it's a nice QoL change if people don't have to constantly swap discs.

I just did this myself. I have Yakuza on QR and am currently installing Assassin's creed Valhalla.  It's mad.

Ok now I'm seriously blown away. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is impressively pretty looking in 60fps mode.

It's like my eyes are now working properly.

Then I swapped back to Yakuza and realised I didn't have that in 60fps mode. Again a revelation.

Think that new LG CX will be on the cards as had good news in work regarding pay and bonus which is a relief considering all that's going on.

My first game has been Fallen Order and I’ve played for about an hour and a half. Console is silent, visuals are stunning and the game so far is pretty good. The whole experience from unpacking to playing has been smooth. The only pain was downloading 120gb of Master Chief Collection.

Buyer’s remorse? Not a bit of it, very impressed so far.

WTF is wrong with me?!

I sold my Series S a couple of weeks ago as I wasn't playing it. I don't need another, I've played all the Xbox exclusives and GamePass stuff I was interested in.

So I'm sat here looking at the Microsoft website contemplating buying another one because they've got stock.

Seriously, WTF?!

Sorry to dredge up another headset question, but I’ve tried connecting two different pairs of wired headphones (Sony MDR-1ABT and common or garden Apple jobbies) and while both output audio just fine neither seem to pick up mic input.

The Series X detects that a mic is connected - I can mute myself, toggle the mic on and off, change between party chat and game chat; it even warns me when I disconnect them that there’s no longer a mic connected - but I can’t be heard by others and voice messages are blank when recorded and played back.

(Both are tested and working fine with other devices)

Is there a setting I’ve missed, or is this actually symptomatic of the kind of incompatibility one typically sees with proprietary consoles? It’s probably my first time to mess about with this kind of stuff.

Im not against buying a headset but it would be pointless if I had the same problem all over again.

If anyone cares, Argos and Smyths both have re-stock of the "Official Xbox Series X Rechargeable Battery Pack & Cable Set"/"Xbox Rechargeable Battery + USB-C® Cable" (play and charge kit) at £20 - Smyths offer free delivery too. It's been out of stock in most places for a couple of months unless you wanted to pay £25+.

Maybe the mic is muted, or has the volume very low? If you press the Guide button to get the little pop-up menu, then go all the way down to the bottom right icon, it'll take you to the audio levels page - is there anything on there that helps?

Do the Sony headphones definitely work with other devices that are not made by Apple?

Thanks for the replies guys - I’ll test the Sonys on something other than an iOS device and report back.

Assuming I am looking at buying a headset, does anyone have a personal pick their recommend, or is there a forum darling I should be on the lookout for?

I’ve been searching online, but the amount of information out there is bewildering. Ideally I’d buy something that doubled as a pair of out-and-about headphones - so anything with neutral colours and without a mic on a stem.

This is the problem ^ @Popo

Any that are flagged as Xbox or Android should be fine and if you’re not spending a lot I imagine they’re all pretty similar so just pick ones you like the look of personally

Depends on the style you’re looking for, but I bought the Razer Kaira Pro following a recommendation on here and am very happy with them.

Work out of the box wirelessly with the Xbox with no dongles required, but also have Bluetooth (so you can be playing games whilst also connected to Bluetooth on your phone).

Has a boom mic which is removable if you want to use as normal headphones, but also has another subtle mic built into the headset itself so you can still use without the boom mic.

I think you can turn off the LED light on the outside too, which you might want to do if using outside (I’ve not tried this though as only used for gaming so far)

Sorry if this has been asked a thousand times but I couldn’t see it. What in your opinion is the best looking game so far for the series x, the one that you’d put on to show off to your mate?

Honestly, there isn't anything 'new' to do that with yet. You can show your favourite last gen game. Forza for example. But, nah, nothing yet.

Maybe The Medium?

Well I'd say Gears Of War 5 and Forza Horizon 4. Their isn't that much "new" content kicking about but MS are enhancing older games.

Of course it also depends on what screen you are using. 4K OLED would be good with VRR support.

In the end there is nothing much to "show off". Its faster. The framerate is better. It's quieter.  Halo Infinite should be great. In November. :D
