Just to add I went through the entire process on Amazon France it was going to cost @£270 shipped

I just can’t decide if I want an S right now or to just wait and get another X when they come back into stock .

I should just wait seeing as I sold my launch series X as I am about to move and was packing it away ready anyway

I've kind of given up on laptop/iphone Remote Play for the new consoles - does anyone have any recommendations for an Android tablet I could use instead? Reasonably  cheap if possible please as I figure as soon as it gets delivered an update will be announced.

I got one of these just before Christmas, just over £100:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B072PTK61S?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

Reviewed really well and importantly has 5ghz wifi connectivity, which is essential for the xcloud/gamepass service. Been working well for me so far when I've used it, though does rely on you having a solid connection.

Won’t Amazon imports from the EU be hit with hefty import duty, plus fees, now?

Yes and No.

"Import Duty" is just VAT.  We are tarrifless with the EU, for now.

The fees may happen but Amazon use their own infrastructure so it seems not an issue.

From other EU companies, YMMV just as it used to from the US.

Which SSD do I want for for my non Series X games? And is it this one:

Samsung 870 QVO 1 TB SATA 2.5 Inch Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-77Q1T0) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089QXQ1TV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_t-o9FbEYQW26Y

I don’t think you can go far wrong with a Samsung, Crucial, WD etc etc - I’ve had a Sunbow (who) since launch and it’s been great, I would say push for a 2tb drive tho as it’s easy to fill....

Oops just bought a Series S, I didn't mean to they just had it in stock locally and I couldn't help myself. Don't need an X as I don't have a 4K TV.

Anyone want to buy a ps4 and vr kit so I don't get my cock chopped off by my wife

That's an internal drive that you'd need to fit into a PC or laptop. You need an external drive with a USB cable if you want to use it on the Xbox.

I recall them using an internal drive with serial to USB adapter in the DF comparison video, presumably this is fine?

Or is it just better to buy an external?

I bought the exact adapter thing DF recommended - it’s perfect, the external drives all look nice and secure connection so no worries about it not being in an enclosure.

Digital Foundry mentioned that while reduced load times are in part due to the SSD, decompression of data also plays a role, and the much faster CPU in the Series consoles enables that. I've been playing Halo 5 from a standard 5400rpm drive and the difference in loading times is really impressive.

For those of you who have bought the Series S, do you feel its worth the upgrade on the base Xbox One or Xbox S? Does it feel like good value or enough of a "next gen" upgrade versus the last gen base consoles?

My original intention to hold out for a Series X, but as its unlikely that I'll have the additional £500 - £1200 for a decent 4k/ OLED telly needed to go with it for quite sometime (a few years) I'm now thinking of of getting the Series S but would love to know if those who've made that leap feel it's worth it?

I'm aware of the drawbacks of the lack of a disc  drive and the small SSD, and more interested to understand if feels/ looks/ plays like a proper next gen upgrade for those whove made a similar upgrade?

Just wait for an X. It's better in every single way.

I’ve got a series X but the main issues seem to be:

1) HD space - if you buy an expansion card you’ve already spent as much as an X

2) the current enhancements seem to be resolution and frame rate. So most of the games you’ll just be getting 60fps as your next gen experience and even then not in all cases (I think?)

3) no disc drive. Not being able to trade games in may have a financial impact unless you just plan to use game pass.

Cheers, this was the initial plan and your probably right to be honest ... it's just the time and patience needed to save up for the X (and a decent OLED/ 4K TV to go with it)which is tempting me to get the S in the interim.

Thanks and points 1 & 3 here I could live with, but it's point 2 here that's the biggest concern ... if it's not much if greater experience to what to you've outlined here, I may just stick with the Xbox S for the time being and get the X at a (much) later stage

Having had a launch one for years now I think the upgrades will be worth it to me, an X would be preferable but I don't want to spend that kind of money on a console.

One of the biggest plus points will be the speed of loading as that's a real bug of mine. Admittedly I did completely forget about the lack of disc drive but I can't remember the last time I actually used a disc so that's not such an issue.

With regards to storage, can I plug the old USB hard drive I use on my Xbox One and access the content rather than downloading it all over again?

Yes, but unless you copy the games to the internal hard drive you won't be seeing any increase in loading speeds.

Hey all, any tips to deal with a very sticky right trigger button?

Does it stick when fully depressed?

Mine was doing this. There’s a small rubber pad that wears away and causes the trigger to stick. Removing the pad does the trick. I think you can access this without a screwdriver, just pop the back off the right side of the controller.

Yep exactly that. Pad not used a lot either. I'll have a look at the right side nice one mate

Let me put it this way. I’ve got a series X and I’m not feeling much in the way of ‘next gen’. It’s more like getting a one x after a Xbox one, or the latest iPhone.

This of course is likely to change once the proper next gen Xbox exclusives come out.

It's a massive upgrade on either of those machines. It feels next gen, and I am using it on an OLED quite happily, without feeling it's underpowered.

If it will be your main console, though, just get an X, as by selling games you'll make the £200 back in no time. Mine is largely a Game Pass machine.

I just plugged in an external drive that I had knocking about, but if you factor in £40-70 if you don't have one already, it makes even less sense when compared to the X.
