Forgive me for sounding like a right idiot. Can you just order from those countries for the UK? (Also, is there import tax now, or did that get sorted as part of the deal?)

yes order as normal you may have to get a £1 figure 8 cable

in the past despite ordering from France Germany etc stuff has still been shipped from the uk anyway

Also try and use a fee free debit or credit card

It’s not very clear but post Brexit transition period I think it should only be VAT - as in you’d need to pay UK VAT as opposed to German VAT if you ordered from Amazon Germany for example. Amazon should have the means to calculate and pay that for you, which should eliminate the need to pay the courier a handling charge for paying the UK VAT on your behalf.

I would strongly suggest waiting for someone else to order something and see what happens.

I sold my series X due to having a PS5

If you were going to get another just for game pass would you go series X or S ?

Depends if you are fussed about 4K and framerates I guess. Also you get more storage with a X so also depends on how many games you intend to have on the go at any one time.

I currently have an X but looking at the way I use it since I got it tentatively thinking about swapping it for a S as don't need a disc drive, tend to only have a couple of games on the go and prefer the form factor of the S. However I do want the best experience I can so decided to just hold onto the X as I know somewhere along the line I'll not want to have a compromised experience.

In the end it comes down to £200 for a more premium experience. The games won't be any different.

X.

With the amount of AAA exclusive games coming to Ganepass I personally would want them at 60fps. There's a high chance that might not be available on S.

Personally I reckon everything will have the option of 60fps on the S, just a lower resolution.

I've kind of given up on laptop/iphone Remote Play for the new consoles - does anyone have any recommendations for an Android tablet I could use instead? Reasonably  cheap if possible please as I figure as soon as it gets delivered an update will be announced.

I think this should be the case. I've been setting all of our shipping / vat rules etc on our website for EU customers. We don't charge VAT to them at purchase anymore. But they will be hit with VAT by customs.

Some retailers may collect VAT on behalf of the customer so they are not hit at customs, but I think that's on a country by country by retailer setup.

Interesting. Does this therefore mean when buying from Germany we should only be paying UK VAT, not UK VAT + Germany VAT?

Honestly, I don't know. I just know how our admin guys have told me to setup our site. VAT for UK, no VAT for EU customers. It could change however.

Whenever I've paid import tax on something outside the EU, it's been like £2.30 tax with a massive £30 "handling charge" or something similarly crazy. Does this mean we're in for that?

Probably. I know backing anything on kickstarter outside the UK is pointless now.

I don't think so, because the UK government has been making consumer facing companies that export to the UK register for UK VAT. The idea being you pay UK VAT there and then, so there shouldn't be any additional charges and thus you should avoid the need for any handling charges. The down side is that due to the additional admin a lot of companies have decided not to sell to the UK anymore (see the William Shatner web store).

If and when current gen consoles become available to people wanting to buy one I was thinking of the Series X, simply because Gamepass is great and most decent games I want, apart from Spiderman, right now are multi-platform.

My only reservation is that isn’t the Series X 4k drive borked for movies? As in it doesn’t support Dolby Vision for some reason?

Comsoles are terrible for films, neither PS5 or Series X support DV it seems but either way far too noisy!

You won’t pay Germany vat it will be classed as export you will be charged at the country of delivery’s vat rate

If true that's not too bad. Germany VAT is 19%, we're 20% so in practice there shouldn't be much difference when buying something from Amazon Germany.

i used to buy import stuff loads when it’s shipped it’s classed as vat exempt as your expected to pay your regions version same as shipping things inter state in the us as they all have their own SST

the only thing you will get hit with is the currency conversion from euro to gbp but that happened before brexit

and you’ll also get hit for a currency exchange charge unless you use a fee free card

you generally have to pay a nominal shipping charge also even if your prime
