Xbox Series X | S

It's really kinda annoying that GoW thing.

You didn't download 90gig though fyi - you downloaded the bare minimum (which I believe is 50gig) and then when you booted up the game you selected what you wanted extra (multiplayer, new campaign etc).

current gen games will load as fast on a series S from the internal drive, as they do an external ssd with a usb3.1 connector, as they cant use the internal ssd optimally.

@ymaohyd an external ssd will improve the load speed on a standard xbox one, and, you can plug it into an xbox s/x when you upgrade to them and just carry on!

I thought the suggestion was to get an ssd for the one x. Which won't be fast.

Is Strafe's TV going dark because it is switching from HDR to SDR?

*sighs*... an external ssd cuts down loading times massively.

this is not hard to find.

NO, its not quite as fast as plugging an external ssd into a series with a usb 3.1, BUT, it is a shit load faster than the standard drive in the one, AND, can be carried across to a series if a person decieds to upgrade, and they then will get a speed boost...

So I’ve just received my new Series X and already have a One X. I was under the impression that both Xboxes could be logged in to the same account and be used at the same time. But that’s not the case. A total pain as it means one Xbox has to be signed in as a guest account and I can’t access existing game progress etc.

Am I missing something?

You can't be signed in on 2 consoles at the same time so it sounds like you have both set as your Home console.

But am I always going to be stuck with using a guest account on one machine and starting games all over again?

You can't be playing them both at the same time so who is playing on the other one?

You want the machine you use the most not to be your home machine and the one used by another user set as home with their own account.

I think you maybe going wrong by not having multiples users

I have my account on all the xboxes here and can switch between them fine. If you were playing on machine A and want to continue your progress on machine B, you don’t need to be logged in on A still - just log in on B and it will sync your save and off you go.

I’m trying to have both in use at once so my boy can play his endless Lego Star Wars games and I can play other stuff. Problem of course is that whoever isn’t signed in on my account loses their progress.

You can do that if he has his own account and you set the Xbox he’s playing on as the primary console for your account. That means all your content etc is shared to all other users on there.

You can then use your account on the other one no problem as long as you’re online.

We do that here and the family controls for the kids accounts are really good.

Create him his own account on the Xbox he uses and set that as the home one.

You can then play to your hearts content on the other one and play on the home on on your account when he’s not using it

Alternatively, leave 'his' Xbox as the home one and take it offline. That way you can play all you want online, and he can play all he wants offline.

You can only play games tied to your account offline from your home Xbox, but if your 'main' one is always connected then that shouldn't matter.

That could work, thanks

Thanks all. If I create a new account for him I still assume it means he won’t have access to previous saves and so loses any previous progress?

He would lose his saves if he’s been playing on your account but it sounds like setting him his own at some point would be handy.

Are captures intermittently screwed for anyone else? I keep just getting my captures from before I had a Series console load up. About 10% of the time the app actually shows me the captures I’ve made on Series S.

If you mean in the app then yes, I get different clips depending if I use the app on the iPad or my iPhone and sometimes one has sound and the other doesn’t - add random times when vids don’t show after the console announces they have been uploaded so I’d say it is pretty buggy at the moment.

My tv (LG b9) does the black screen switch that @Strafe was talking about, I always thought it was when switching between the non-HDR dash and a HDR game. It is a bit annoying, not the end of the world but it does generate a touch of load rage.

Actually, yeah, now I think about it, it’s probably a HDR thing instead of resolution.

So far my most played game on the machine is...

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Downloads were taking ages so I started this for another play on Xbox One while I waited, and then continued on the S. It has absolutely no Series S improvements to speak of, doesn't support quick resume, doesn't have any loading during gameplay, has a poor camera by modern standards and the combat is as repetitive and irritating as ever, but it's still amazing fun.

On my TV (Samsung KS7000) I can prevent that black screen when switching in or out of HDR by setting the Xbox to output in 10-bit rather than 8-bit in the video options. It doesn’t look any different and the switch to HDR is seamless. No idea if this applies to all TVs.

People are complaining about the black screen but it's the correct thing to happen if you want to see your content displayed correctly. Apple TV does the exact same thing switching between modes but the black screen is way more intrusive on that in my experience.

The latest Apple TV initially did what Sony did with PS5 and forced HDR at all times, even on SDR content, because they didn't want users seeing any black screens but relented and added an option to match content correctly. It's a minor annoyance at best compared to content being displayed inaccurately on your TV.

I have a code for amazon to bring 3 month game pass ultimate down to £19.99 (from 32.99) if anyones interested in it drop me a PM

I had that as well and wondered if there was any way to add it to my current £1 for 3 years deal. I did it a few months ago, so it’d be ideal. I can’t figure out how you’d do it though.
