I think it's unlikely since the ultimate version packs in DLC which is not typically (ever?) the deal with 3rd party gamepass stuff.

I hope not anyway, I bought Control Ultimate in the recent sale and am waiting for the patch!

Yea I'd have to agree with you there. I decided to just so ahead and start playing on the One X which is great looking with only the odd frame drops here and there.

I'll get the ultimate edition for Series X whenever I manage to get a system next year.

I gave No Man's Sky a go, as it's got a Series S patch and there seems to be something very wrong with it. In both quality and performance modes, it made me want to puke in about 10 seconds. Nothing outside of VR has ever done that to me before. Felt like treacle and loads of slowdown. Maybe I need to close it or restart the console or something.

I hadn't played No Mans Sky in quite some time, and when I tried it on the Series X I thought it felt awful. I'm sure they have changed the weight/inertia of the character as it just feels weird to me now. And the framerate was all over the place.

Looks great to me! If you want to know something specific let me know :)

Thanks Kryptonian: I'd like to know about the stuttering, and the blur effect on the serie S, unfortunately I can't play games with a lot of those effects, thanks to motion sickness malaise. Do you feel them while playing? and is it possible on the serie S to choose between Performance or Quality (or whatever those modalities are called....)?

Oof. The cupboard really is bare for the foreseeable then.

My backlog isn't. And Game Pass neither.

I believe a lot of this is still related to the incomplete development tools. I was reading the other day that AMD's equivalent to Nvidia's DLSS is expected somewhere in 2021. This machine-learning based upscaling is the key to hardware punching above it's weight at 4k resolutions. I believe next-gen will happen when AMD finishes their Ray Tracing and DLSS tools. I believe this is also more or less required for Microsoft to deliver the promise of the Series S: 1440p at 60fps for next-gen games.

If this is good or bad, I don't know. I think in the mid-to-long term, it is better to have industry standard tools that scale across PC (both Xbox platform as well as other storefronts) and Xbox then to not conform to the standard and have a lot of extra work/incompatibility down the line.

It's is very clear to me that every decision that Microsoft make is guided by the mid-to-long term, not the short-term. This console generation will be Sony's again in that regard, but I believe Microsoft will be very successful regardless on console, PC and mobile.

It has these options, I struggle with motion blur too. I haven’t noticed any stuttering yet.

My monitor only does 1080p 60Hz so that’s how I’m running it, I don’t know if this means I don’t see any performance/quality options or if they aren’t there on Series S? A number of options on the dashboard aren’t available due to my display it detects.

Series S Cyberpunk is a solid 30fps, I'd imagine if you're not yet used to 60fps for everything you'll be fine.

Right now I can wait for the next gen patch as to me the bugs sound very immersion breaking. The game will be cheaper, 60fps, will look much better and I'd imagine many (most?) bugs will be ironed out.

I've also got a thousand game pass games to play!

People talk about how putting 'every first party game on game pass at launch' is unsustainable, but it's cheap to do when you don't release any.

I get covid, but it was the whole of last gen. They make Nintendo look fast.

MS spent the majority of last gen flip flopping on Xbox after the Kinect/TV mantra failed miserably and the competition literally ran away. Their previous reliance on Third Party exclusivity (that had worked for them in the 360 gen) quickly dried up as Sony took the sales and mindshare early on and those business deals became eye watering as a result.

Add on what appeared to be an aversion to owning first party studios or attempting to stuff what should have been SP games full of Mutliplayer guff (presumably to monetise but at the expense of games such as Fable Legends and Scalebound), and you can see that there was a clear lack of investment and direction from top of the shop.

It was only two-three years ago that they suddenly shifted focus back to gaming with the One X and the purchase of multiple studios.

So I think we are currently seeing the effects of those 'wasted' years MS spent trying to shape Xbox into a complete entertainment division before refocusing back to gaming. Longer term we should see the results of this refocus, but for now....patience.

I agree with all that. Bar the patience, I don’t need patience, I just need other platforms til, they get their act together.

I’m happy with how much I’ve been able to install with 100GB left, but it’s a shame you can’t pick what to install with Master Chief Collection without starting the download, which needs 130GB. You can only to tell it what bits to install from within the game, which is quite annoying.

And wow, the SSD is an absolute revelation for Horizon 4.

Indeed, the SSD is a revelation - if you go for an external drive then make sure you get an SSD for that too as currently we aren’t even using velocity engine so load times on my external are the same as internal, wish I’d gone for a 2tb SSD now!

Ive even started this little game called Minecraft, swapping between games so quickly has made me play not only more games but much more variety of games and of course gamepass has been great for this!

If you’re after a Series X I’ll keep an eye out too and see if I can ping you. I ummed and ahhed about one myself but found it hard to justify with having an S and not having a 4K TV.

That'd be awesome, cheers man. I doubt I could get there quick enough as they sell out like billy-o but I definitely appreciate it.

I went for an S but just before release all the things came back that sounded too much like compromise so I just held off and now my other half has an X I'm feeling a bit like I'm missing out, despite not having a 4K TV, like yourself. The magpies are strong with this one. Want me that shiny shit.

I agree it’s madness but I didn’t realise you could thin the install within the game! Amazing! Thanks - I only want reach at the minute, so hopefully you’ve saved me a load of space!

They advertised this feature where you can pick which bits to download beforehand, ages ago. The only game which is ever given me the option is gears 5, and there’s only one component to choose from which says “full game.”

If I'm understanding your post properly, I was surprised when Phil Spencer said that those sorts of co-marketing campaign costs are not based on the number of sales on a platform.
