I thought it might be something like that. Thanks for confirming.

(On with the piss puns.)

I've got a non-Bluetooth original bone pad working perfectly with my series x. It's not the original original one pad though, it's the one that came out a bit later with added headphone jack.

Thanks for this. Mine is one of the originals that needs the adapter for headphones, so I guess that’s the issue. Not a problem to use it wired for the odd bit of multiplayer; just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything obvious.

It shouldn’t be anything to do with it being Bluetooth or not. I have the original elite controller which is not Bluetooth and that works fine with the SeriesX. MS have said that all Xbox one controllers should work with series consoles.

Also just synced an original Xbox one pad with the Series X to test and that worked fine. So while I appreciate this doesn’t solve your problem, your pad should connect wirelessly.

So as a lapsed Xbox 360 owner coming back, I fancy returning to some franchises that kept me occupied in the late 2000s - namely, Halo and Gears.

I played Halo 1-3, ODST and Reach and also the couple of levels of 4. I played Gears 1-3.

So what's the best place to start? Logic dictates Halo 4 and Gears 4, but I've heard that the fifth installments are generally a lot better (Gears especially). And Gears 5 comes with fancy next-gen upgradey bangs and whistles.

Yeah I also am wondering what to invest time in. Gears 5 hasn't clicked with me. I find the duck and cover mechanic to be a little at odds with the heavy metal waves of gore monsters and I'm not mad on the third person view or controls.

I say this because as soon as I gave Halo 5, later Destiny 2 a go suddenly I realised how much more natural it was.

I'm wondering then whether to deep dive into the entire series and start with Halo 2 as I think I never completed it.

I only really tried gears as it felt like the most next gen. Despite being in absolute awe of the graphics the game just isn't there for me.

Thanks for this. That's frustrating then. I'll keep tinkering with it.

Can’t finish the new Destiny 2 expansion due to random disconnections and Apex Legends is too laggy to play properly. No issues with the same games on my PC on the same network in my house.

Wired?

Can't speak for destiny but apex seemed to be fine.

Same here, so I started back in with Gears 5 - I absolutely loathe the tone of this game, from the start the voice acting and setting just boiled my piss. A flying robot called Dave, for fuck's sake. It's almost beyond comprehension that this big budget, flagship title has such completely brain-dead, unlikeable writing. It makes the game feel stupid. Overall mechanics and feel of the game are sludgy and unsatisfying, I found it dated, clumsy and boring. Just an incredibly basic shooter with endless padding and cruft. Awful.

Same with Forza 4 - obviously huge budget, everything polished, approved by marketing and shiny, but fuck me if this isn't one of the most tasteless, cynical and synthetic experiences I've ever had with a game. I can't figure out who this kind of direction is for - it's like a parody of a videogame. Actual racing is fine, but everything around it is absolutely rancid.

I would suggest Remnant and Wreckfest to these two games.
