Me too. I don't know why?! My local had one left and I was all, erm, urm, FOMO, place order.

Same. I told myself that I didn't want or need a new console at the moment - with a precarious work situation and no games I really want. But today's FOMO got the better of me and I thought fuck it, I got some money for my Birthday back in January that I had originally earmarked for a new console anyway. So I'll bloody well get one. I can always sell it if things go tits up.

To avoid this megathread becoming any larger, I've created two new topics for ongoing discussion as follows. Please continue to post your hardware and upgrade game impressions over there. :)

EDIT: It has been noted that by locking this thread, I have imposed something akin to censorship by preventing people without hardware/dispatch/game impressions from having somewhere to post their opinions. With that in mind, I've unlocked this thread for those people, but note that posts relating to the above topics will be moved to the appropriate threads going forwards. Have at it people!

I still see no need to split the Series X|S threads even more when we already had a separate dispatch one. As I pointed out before the Xbox One and PS4 threads aren't split this way and have over 1000 pages each.

So once the post launch hype is over and we're back to just talking about our consoles and the games we're playing I guess this thread makes sense to post in. Like which thread is the official Xbox thread for the rest of the gen/going forwards?

It's a bit confusing.  Unnecessary split in my opinion but not the end of the world.

Megathreads are a cancer upon this forum so I for one welcome the split. So many Switch games go unloved because two people have a conversation lost to the ether in the one megathread instead of starting a topic for that game.

Splitting out the chat about how the older games run and are upgraded is a great idea because it's a very specific conversation and is something hard enough to find info about on the internet anyway. So it's nice having an easy thread to check for people posting opinions about what works well and what doesn't.

I agree about splitting out game threads but not about the hardware thread. I think that only needs one thread.

Must admit first time I saw the X I thought it looked GC sized! Well at least in two dimensions anyway.... :D  Although I wouldn't leave that GC up there when the X is powered up and running at full throttle....

I’ve just installed Gears 5 overnight. I was expecting to launch the game and then be asked  if  I wanted to apply the X update, but it hasn’t done this.... any ideas? It says it’s 71.9g on the ssd and is version 1.2.801.0z

has the system recognised I’m downloading it on the series X and just done everything at once?

Did with FH4. Think its clever. Or just downloads everything for everyone irrespective of console owned. It would seem that way at times looking at the size of the downloads. Also the way disk games "installed" on the Xbox One (practically downloaded the whole game from Xbox when you put the disk in!).

SmartDelivery? You decide. :D

I’m sure I read somewhere that the was a big update that made the game over 100gb - what version do you have installed?

Apologies if this has been covered.

I understand that currently the LG OLED CX line is a strong contender to look at for working with the next gen consoles.

I saw elsewhere some VRR issues being mentioned - https://www.notebookcheck.net/VRR-Gamma-problems-with-LG-CX-and-C9-OLED-TVs-may-leave-PlayStation-5-and-Xbox-Series-X-gamers-with-a-headache.502464.0.html

Is this actually a big deal in everyday usage?

So when is the PS4 and Xbox One thread going to get split up?

And it's easy enough to make a separate thread for any Switch game.

Away from my previous TV chat, I'm in the middle of moving house which should be sorted in a few weeks.

So, whilst I received the Xbox yesterday, I'm probably going to keep it boxed until the house move is complete. Given some of the initial issues which people have had, in some ways I am broadly satisfied to give it a few weeks where hopefully these initial launch quirks will be ironed out with a patch of some sort.

It is a sad indictment of either this generation or how complicated everything is these days that actually it is often better to wait some weeks/months after a new game/console launch before starting it to get the benefit of post launch fixes.

Do we know what the instant on and energy saving modes actually do and don't do? The summarising bullets seem a bit vague. Will it download updates in energy mode and only rev up when needed, or do I need to have instant on mode for that?

I don't see myself using any of the instant on, especially seeing as it boots so quickly and quick resume works from a cold boot anyway, but I'd like to avoid having to update games when I want to be playing them.
