I wonder if it’ll be half the width of the Series X, as opposed to half the height? I think it still needs to follow the same design language, so it feels part of the same family.

The whole point of the series X shape is to stick a big square fan at the top. Not sure that works when half width.

Yeah, but we know (if the rumours are correct) that it isn’t half height, so what other shape could they go for that uses the same fan and looks like it’s the Series X little brother?

So, what's the little doofer above the fan but below the grill? There's been a hole there on the outer case on all the mock-ups I've seen. Is it just, like, an extra vent?

It's part of the fan, but I know far too little about aerodynamics to explain its presence:

Maybe it's just an emergency vent of sorts in case someone's oblivious enough to stack stuff on top of the console?

Oh yeah, or if you put it on its side and square it up against something else, that makes sense. Probably got a sensor in it that warns you when the main vent is blocked.

edit - I guess it would figure that out if the temperature kept going up.

Could you stick a saxophone in there, block the top and make the Xbox play a tune?

next gen audio.

bookended by the sobs of someone realising there are no games and so they’ve had to resort to this to get some amusement out of their $800 console

Xbox one x factory refurb £179 at amazon.  https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/xbox-one-x-factory-refurbished-ps17999-at-amazon-3528146#thread-comments

Just ordered one as I figured I'm stuck at home for the forseeable.  What do I need to get up and running on gamepass?  Just hope my old decrepit tv runs it now.  Not entirely sure why I got it as I have a switch that I barely use but what the hell.

I've got mine set up via ethernet but wireless connection has been perfectly solid when I've played Battlefield V or Titanfall 2 or whatever. For downloading, yep, it'll be faster but it's not necessary. The WiFi is a shitload better than the Switch.

mines on wifi. Saturates my download, but that’s only 55-60mbps.

I'd definitely set aside £450+ if you're looking to buy.

I've been expecting the $£499/$£599 since announcement. I've got £550 in savings for it right now, I expect to need to add £50 to that.

Haven't watched that yet, but came across these two images. Top is the Xbone APU, bottom is the Series X:

So they've gone from the GPU being maybe 1/5th of the die area to what looks to be over half.

I'm wondering what, if anything will be done with the chips with too many errors? There will presumably be quite a lot. A bigger die means a larger chance that faults will exist - though four GPU cores can be disabled and still meet the spec. Do they just go in the bin? An APU with 7 CPU and 45 GPU cores (for instance) might not meet the spec for the X, or the S for that matter, but presumably it's still going to be useful to someone. It seems almost perfectly symmetrical, maybe they could cut such chips in half and sell them as APUs to the PC / laptop market.

Kind of getting that way myself. I've got so much of a backlog on the XBox and Switch that even im starting to think a new console just now would be a bit unnecessary.

I've always been a day one purchaser but there's nothing exciting me this time and certainly no momentum from MS or Sony.
