They've already said a few games like Gears 5 and FH4 are getting 4K60 patches. But does anyone really care enough to buy a new console for that? I can't imagine what they're going to be able to show a next gen patch for that's going to move consoles.

 

I think they'll give away some Game Pass to people buying the Series X. 3 months minimum, but the longer they can give the better. Suppose it depends on where things land with pricing.

I've been trying to think what they might try and do to counteract the really poor event and then the blow that is having to announce everything they're delaying Halo. The obvious one would be to buy a big third-party exclusive for a timed period. These are the big hitters out between now and Christmas (at least I think so):

 

• Call of Duty - Black Ops: Cold War - They'd have to offer Activision the GDP of a small country. Can't see that happening. Besides I think CoD is already in a co-marketing deal with Sony.
• Assassin's Creed: Valhalla - Ubisoft are not averse to having games exclusive to one platform (Mario & Rabbids Kingdom Battle), but it's generally smaller projects and not their big games. Again, would be a very, very expensive proposition for MS, so doubt they'd do  but they have deep pockets...
• Watch Dogs: Legion - As above
• Marvel's Avengers: A-Day: Already locked into a deal with Sony for exclusive content, so a no go.
• Cyberpunk 2077 - They're already in some kind of deal with MS. No way would they give up the PC market, but MS have already proved they're happy for games to release on Xbox and PC at the same time. They'll just want to keep it off PS4/PS5, probably the most likely out of the games that would actually move the needle on people's console choice.
• Hitman 3 - Look I love Hitman and MS could easily afford it, but let's be honest it wouldn’t be great investment as I doubt it would make much difference to the balance of Xbox vs PS5 sales.
• Resident Evil 8: Village - I know it was announced at Sony's show, but not sure if they have any kind of deal with Sony? If not could be a possibility I guess.
• Bugsnax - The combined finances of MS, Google, Apple and Facebook couldn't afford this.

I know I've probably missed a bunch. At this late stage where marketing deals have already been struck and merch is already in production, I think there's probably more chance that we'll see them backing up a dump truck of cash to a publisher to make a big game release on Gamepass on day one, rather than a full on exclusive.

Tbh I think there will be enough people willing to buy them just for having the ‘best’ console versions of all those third party games anyway, I’m sure they’ll sell through their initial shipment and then hopefully they can start getting some exclusives out. Gonna be expensive for early adopters that’s for sure.

I think I'm getting less and less tolerant of forum nonsense. There's been some really good first party games this year and Wasteland 3 and Battletoads in the next two weeks but to blanket everything as shit is just such lazy tripe that benefits no one.

Yeah, I think the question is whether those games are enough in conjunction with Gamepass to sell people a Series X in lieu of a big hitter like Halo or Forza, or even Flight Simulator (hopefully that comes out soon).

Xbox Wire seem to think it'll launch with 50? games so I'd imagine having the best versions of all of the multiformat titles and some interesting games like The Medium and Falconeer should keep people entertained. Wouldn't be that surprised if they've held a few surprises back to reveal at this next conference/gamescom event.

 

I'll probably be playing NFS Hot Pursuit remastered on it if they've made an effort to enhanced it for Series X at launch. 

 

Can't wait tbh. Love a new console launch.

Revival uses Wasteland 3 and Battletoads. They aren’t super effective.

If I was building a line up for Series X, Flight Simulator would not be the title I would be pushing for at this point. It may be particularly pretty but exciting it is not. 

 

Launching with what could be framed as the most boring launch title ever might be worse than taking the nintendo approach "The Legends Are Coming." Which was their Gamecube campaign, IIRC.

There's no drama. I'm an ms convert, I love the one x. My fave console over. But I can tell you, the ms output of games is average at best. 

 

Gears 5 looks amazing, gameplay basically same as gears 1. Same with forza. 

 

The third party output is great and gamepass has a phenominal selection on there, its great.

 

The series x hardware looks incredible. Wet dream stuff. I was so hyped at the reveal and the specs. 

 

But I have seen Nothing on it so far that's making me think I NEED this right now. Halo was laughable. 

 

Its missing any actual killer content. I'm sure it will come in time.

It's not a case of differing opinion just this generations increasing message that anything that isn't deemed AAA or doesn't reach a certain score isn't worth playing. I learned better than this back in 1985 when I was six years old. Games are supposed to be fun, Some of you guys are determined to suck the fun out of everything.

It’s not worth getting upset over, if you’re happy with the games you play that’s all that matters.
 

Obviously Microsoft are coming under fire more recently because of some their more controversial decisions, such as cross gen titles, and then there’s Halo, and this is following a generation which didn’t start well for them and was pretty lacklustre in terms of big releases. That’s not to say there aren’t any good games, but I think it’s inevitable that people will put them under the microscope with a new console coming up.

Nobody said anything about budgets, Halo cost a lot and looks shit, Battletoads is smaller and looks shit. If the persistent rumors are true, there's also the fact that it will be cheaper than the PS5 despite being more powerful due to Sony deciding to go with custom hardware. In combination with Game Pass, that's currently what they have to offer in the absence of a big first party exclusive. I don't think that's enough to tempt people away from PlayStation but they could hope it's enough to keep current Game Pass subscribers from switching platforms. That's probably the best they can hope for until they manage to show a few impressive first party games.

 

I'm buying both anyway, but that's exactly what my XsX is going to be used for - my default multiplatform console (better performance and I personally prefer the controller) with Game Pass cornucopia. And PS5 for all the must-have exclusives they keep putting out.

I’m not sure about that rumour and the reason is this; if Series X is cheaper than PS5 then why bother with Series S? Why not just make a Series X Digital? That way you’d undercut Sony on price for both their options whilst still offering the more powerful machine.
