I would expect (hope) it to be more far reaching than that, but I have no idea. Also what Gerbik said, yes.

 

I'm still really interested to see how those videos compare to what current gen systems will offer.

I really, really hope they add VR compatibility this generation, have they mentioned it at all?

Initially they gave the impression it would have VR support but they've moved away from that based on the way Spencer has spoken about VR since then. I wouldn't expect them to support it anytime soon on console.

It is a bit of a shame.  The Mixed Reality  / Kinnect descendant hardware could yield interesting things.

Ray tracing would be the big new thing I think, but I assume - knowing CD Projekt and the way Witcher 3 scaled - a significant bump in overall visual quality by turning up the settings. Texture detail and crowd density in combination with dat ray tracing should have a huge impact on this particular setting.

My experience on Stadia is that a modern processor is fine up to 1080p but 4k streams need dedicated decoders and/or a dedicated graphics card (a shit one will do). I'm guessing xcloud will be the same when it starts pushing higher res than 720p.

I think the problem with local streaming was saturation of the network / unoptimised codecs. Will be interesting to see what happens with 720p/1080p.

If by some miracle CD has the Cyberpunk next gen patch out and Microsoft does a console pack with the game claiming it has the best version, well, absence of Halo or Forza will mean very little.

It feels like every step of Microsoft’s Series X things has been a bit of a disaster. First 20/20 was a big letdown, then the event that was supposed to make up for it let a lot of people down and made their big game look terrible and now they’ve cancelled the whole 20/20 thing and delayed Halo. It just looks like things are in disarray. 
 

I think they need a game to sell Series X - I’m prepared to go out and buy a new console with a new Halo (even if it’s not exclusive). I’m not going to go out and buy a Series X on day one if there are no big launch games.

Wouldn't that game be Halo? Having said that, what other games would sell the X? The same could be said of the PS5, but Sony has bigger AAA games it can call on.

To stop this stupid game of chicken that they're both playing, Sony or MS should just announce a price, then let the other one undercut them, then claim it was a communication and the actual price is £10 cheaper than whatever their competitor just said.

Think it would have to be a miracle seeing as they said the full blown next gen version would be sometime next year. Given the delays to the vanilla version, cannot see next gen patch coming forward.

 

The delay to Halo is a big blow for Microsoft and there is no hiding from that fact. The big seller was Series X shipping with Infinite.

Didn't CD Project say there would be a next generation patch bringing some improvements to PS5 and Series X this year and then a full blown next gen update in 2021?

Has there ever been a new console launch without a single first party exclusive? Microsoft really put all their eggs in that Halo-shaped basket and their whole next-gen affair is looking a bit sad and forlorn after an incredibly promising initial reveal of the hardware. They must be hoping Bloober Team are going to make their first ever good game.

Even if that is true (and I think you’re probably being a tad reductive) it doesn’t matter really does it? Because they won’t be required to have that in small print at the bottom of the screen while the Spider-Man from Into the Spiderverse is whipping round all whizzy and shiny on tv ads and splashed across billboards etc.
 

In terms of selling a new thing to the general public it’s a big iconic showpiece and Master Chief’s latest was that for Series X.

There was never going to be a 1st party exclusive. Halo isn't exclusive to console.
