People will point to PC, but tend to forget that the low-spec PC users are expected to put up with poor performance as technology moves on.

The PC experience isn't really the same. Those lower spec PC's usually have different CPUs and different generations of graphics cards.  Developers aren't taking a game that runs well on one GPU at 4k and quartering the resolution to run it on a GPU from the same generation with a third of the power.

Games now scale absolutely fine with resolution.  There's maybe some risk that developers start using techniques that don't. Hard to see what they'd be at this stage.

The problem with this approach is that paying top dollar for a Series X then starts to feel a bit like buying a Lamborghini only to pootle around on B roads with it.

you can tell who is and isn’t a PC gamer.

(yesterday I mentioned to a junior colleague that I thought my 1080/6670 setup was getting a bit long in a tooth, to some aghast silence)

Look at how many of us types bought an X or Pro just because it was more powerful - literally zero exclusives on either if you already had a vanilla edition. There's a market.

actually, I only bought my X and Pro because of an insurance payout, on my stolen collection.

no other reason.

Spoiler

Yeah, cos I was going to get the vanilla versions otherwise, right? :eyebrows:

Anyway in news I’m sure you’re all dying to hear I’ve done my sums and provided Series X is no more than £500 that’s the one for me, the best console with an instant back catalogue including all my old Xbox games, many beefed up, I don’t want to miss out on that. But in all honestly it’s Flight Simulator 2020 that did it for me - I’m hoping it will at least be of the quality I’ve seen it running at on PC, and I have my T-flight all ready, provided it’s compatible.

That's great, but you forgot to also mention your PC specs for no reason whatsoever.

Surely the warranty is a year from purchase date. How do they know when you bought it?

I think in the US it’s a 90 days warranty from purchase but a one year warranty in case of large scale defects with the product range. I guess one year would mean any such defects would be uncovered.

FS 2020 is the main attraction for me as well at this point and I have high hopes it will be great on the SX based on its power. I would appreciate some more information about it though.

Also, the possibility of playing CP2077 at its best.

Yes, watching the latest videos last night also helped seal the deal.

Yeah, It’s going to be Cyberpunk, Halo and Flight Simulator for me, plus Gamepass. That lot should keep me going for a good while.

Do you ever refer to your PC as a ‘rig’ Footle?

oh god no.

I also don’t have any RGB rubbish and barely ever turn it on (I spend all day at a laptop, now at the same desk as my PC: which is why I’m in console threads - most played this year Switch, then iPad).

Have they said when the Series X patch for Cyberpunk will come out? I'm under the impression that it won't get the benefit of SeriesX until later on.

I wonder if Sekiro will run at 60fps on Series X, it’s unlocked as far as I know so it should be possible.

This (older games in general, not specifically Sekiro) is a big plus too. If Microsoft do the kind of enhancing that we saw games get on One X, there'll be plenty of things I'd happily revisit in higher res/framerate/more shinies.

Sometimes I'm on the fence about getting the new xbox at launch, but today I am all in.

I'm not sure, but I was under the impression that it will have the token performance, loading times, and (if applicable with scaling) resolution improvements at the very least. Which already makes it the best console version until the proper patch comes out which I assume will put it on par with the PC version at ridiculous settings.

Definitely, I play Half-Life 2 like at least once a year and it’s great now on Xbox One, would be wonderful with the faster loading on Series X.

The other big one for me is Destiny 2 at 4K 60 with all the new content, that’s going to be nice.

I would also urge anyone who hasn’t yet played it to seek out Dragon Quest XI which comes to Game Pass later this year, that game is a looker even on Switch, it boggles the mind to think what it could look like on Series X, hope it’s 4K 60 with HDR.
