As a showcase for GamePass it was amazing. The ability to play all those games day 1 with my existing sub? Brilliant. As a showcase for why I should buy a Series X or get excited about next-gen? Very poor. No real gameplay footage of series X exclusives so we just see mostly gameplay footage of cross-gen games running at 4k 60fps which is nice but not take my £450-£500 right now nice.

Still, that GamePass ecosystem is really something.

Their model is based on them not caring if you stick with your old machine buy a mid range machine, buy a series X or play on Xcloud. It’s all about getting you to buy in to the ecosystem.

Yeah I know, but to constantly tout the messaging of the world's most powerful console and then to not be able to show gameplay footage showcasing that and why you should pay so much for it is a difficult sell.

I think PS5 will fare better on this front without the need to make everything cross-gen. Not saying those PS5 exclusives will look like a huge generation leap day one but they will just naturally be able to make better use of the increased power than a game that also has to run on an Xbox One S.

Also, I think the console price range is going to be huge here. All these games available on a free trial of Gamepass with the following pricing structure...

Series X £449

Series S £299

Xbox S £129

...will really differentiate it from the Sony Camp with its more traditional console / game pricing.

I think throwing in a 6 or 12 month Game Pass sub with a Series X seems like a great way to sort out any price disparity issues with Sony, too.

Fable and Avowed are both next gen only, it seems. So they’ll have those games.

I’m a hardcore gamer and was an Xbox devotee since the first Xbox till 2014 but I have no idea what their vision is and I’ve never heard of xcloud.

I think the lack of a full scale press conference is really hurting things here.

I've just re-watched the Halo footage on YouTube in 4k on the Halo channel and there are parts of it that do look great.

The whole opening cut-scene looks really solid. Walking about up to the Warthog looking at the vehicle debris is great too.

It's disappointing that the Warthog doesn't leave tracks in the mud and some of the pyrotechnics are poor. I'd really hope for more smoke and particles. Just more depth to the incidental details.

How disappointing, both this and the Sony presentation were seriously underwhelming. I see little reason to upgrade from the Xbox One X any time soon.

That’s what everyone said just before the 360 came out. Seems crazy now.

HALO INFINITE - F**K!

FORZA MOTORSPORT - Built for the Xbox Series X will be special.

But those are likely 3 years away.

That's usually the time I buy into a new gen anyway so works for me.

Managed to catch-up on the hour, very mixed feelings...

I was very disappointed with the Halo reveal. The one thing I really didn't want was just another bland Halo sequel rolled in a few extra shinies and that is unfortunately all it looks like we are getting. :( With all the posturing from Xbox this generation I really thought they may have done something more interesting, but if it does end up being basically just being more Guardians then I'm out. Shame, and it kind of put me on a downer for the rest of it.

However actually quite a lot of the other titles I thought looked pretty interesting (although obviously without much actual game play or detail) and I'll be keeping an eye on them as we find out more. Everwild looks like Journey on steroids. The new Elder Scrolls game, sorry Avowed, looked great. CrossfireX looked like a shiny Remedy game. I thought The Medium looked interesting (and really weirdly seems sort of like a random game idea I had earlier today while chatting to a mate  ). STALKER looked pretty cool and I never played the first one. I actually thought Hello Neighbour 2 in the pre-show looked like an interesting one too but I know nothing about the first one because - as Geoff Keighley pointed out - I don't watch YouTube LetsPlay. And we'll find out what Fable is like in a couple of years.

Certainly not blown away by it (much like the Playstation one), but it wasn't a bad showing at all in the end.

The big winner is Game Pass though, it really is an impressive (if commercially mysterious) service. I'm certainly getting a staggering amount content over the next 3 years for my £1.

However if this was supposed to sell me an Xbox Series X this year then I think it's probably failed. I expect I'll end up with a PS5 (with VR) in time for Christmas and use my existing One for some of these games (or possibly consider a well priced One S digital) as most of the games looked like they would work fine on it. I can then review my Series X decision later (probably when Fable comes out). Plenty of time left before money has to part hands though so that could change.

Nah.

As a showcase for next gen Series X this was lacklustre, and in that regard they got it wrong as a lot of the games looked nothing that couldn’t be achieved on current gen. Sone looked poor. As a showcase for gamepass it was stellar although I think they could have rammed this point home further, it’s an amazing deal.

The most exciting thing for me was the Rare game which had some great art direction. I for a moment thought it was going to Viva Piñata 3. :)

Really? When I worked for Gamestation we got to see the 360 in person at the annual conference in September, before the November launch. Perfect Dark Zero was mind blowing, even the rep made sure we checked out the brick textures. PGR3 looked like real life. The hype for the 360 was real and deserved

Halo is interesting in 4K - the occasionally shonky texture and pop-in. Grapple seems an interesting addition to the sandbox. Zero ray tracing or the like that I can see. (Though not really expecting any outside of a 3080ti).

if you told me it was One X footage though I’d believe you.

on the other hand it’s the only extended gameplay sequence that’s not massively cut to smithereens that I think we’ve seen in most of these conferences (perhaps watchdogs legion, but...)
