Considering the graphics of TLOU2 and Ghost of Tsushima on the 7 year old PS4 I was really hoping for something that looked incredible today on the world's most powerful console.

TBH I'll just be keeping the recently acquired PS4 Pro for a while as my only console in the house, Have a nice backlog on there to catch up with and games I really enjoy. PC will do for everything else including VR stuff. I was going to keep my Switch but don't think we'll see another new Mario until the next Ninty console release so moved it on.

Halo infinite looks interesting and should run on my PC well enough.

Pathetic?

I thought it looked great and I can't wait for more Halo but that's a scorching take right there.

The “its open world now” but no demonstrations of the scale of the world, the ropey looking grappling hook and the weightless shooting took the wind out of it early. But the combination of serious gruff boring protagonist having his chat at the beginning, then silly serious Sam shooting and weapons, followed by the angry speech from the PS2 Lord of the Rings game asset was really funny. I can’t believe something so expensive looks so stupid.

It was a really good sales pitch for Games Pass, which I assume is at least 50% of the point. All those games are for free, right? It was tricky keeping track of how much was cross gen and how much wasn't, and what that meant for when they're coming out. I guess a lot of it, but then that's always true of launch events.

Bit underwhelming. You'd expect Microsoft to come out guns blazing since Sony was a bit underwhelming too,but seems they feel some kind of solidarity towards each other. We underwhelm together!

Positives:

Halo looked great. A proper sequel to CE? Could be!

STALKER 2 OMFG YES

Psychonauts 2 looks fun!

Obsidian does a Skyrim which presumably means 'Skyrim if Skyrim was a good RPG with a good story'? Yes please!

Balan Wonderworld: shit title but looks fun!

Outer Worlds expansion: wonderful!

Medium looked really interesting!

What the fuck is Everwild even

Game Pass is the best thing ever

Not one game on the PS5 or XBX looks as good as Last of Us 2 looks right now. It's weird. Frankly neither console has that must-own title that all launches usually have. I'm more excited for Astro Bot, the novelty built in game than anything else I've seen so far

The chit chat and angry Thanos is just fluff though the real magic is the combat and it looked all present and correct to me.

The Dontnod game really looks like a Life is Strange pitch that got rejected by Square Enix for some reason, and MS picked it up under a different name.

Legitimately thought it was a life is strange sequel.

I'm genuinely curious about whether or not LiS2 has had a negative effect on the series overall. I've only heard hearsay and whispers about LiS2 doing really badly but it makes me wonder if they've decided to have a clean break with a standalone episodic game.

Probably my only big negative about that whole thing was the reveal that Brutes still don’t go down with one headshot.

You have to shoot their helmets off first. Two shots and they’re down.

I'm just revisiting this comment now thats over.

Have we seen the console?   Have we seen it boot up and play a disc?   No we havent.  Same could be said of the PS5 i suppose.

thats what I want, Mr clever clogs.

these presentations always skimp on the plastic! :)

Oh right, I was gonna say there’s a full breakdown of the console online somewhere. Not sure if they’ve shown off the boot up animation yet though.

In comparison to the last Sony show it was far better.

There's at least 10 games I'm interested in and the rest I will give a try because, well, gamepass.

Look forward to the next show later in the year from both companies.

Strongly disagree it was anywhere near as good as the PS5 thing, which was by no means great either. At least Ratchet showed us something that wasn’t possible on current gen, while RE8 and Demons Souls were way more hype than anything here. Obviously IMO.

I really enjoyed that. After a lot of massively disappointing “E3” events throughout lockdown, this is the only one that actually felt like E3.

Halo Infinite looked great. They showed great variety, lots of games which didn’t look amazing but I’d like to try - and can try without paying out, thanks to Game Pass.

They showed a lot of games which aren’t really exclusive but it made the presentation stronger. STALKER 2 is huge to me, so is Psychonauts 2.

I’m wary of anything approved by Games Workshop but can’t help but hope for a good 40K game.

That Crossfire X game looks like it could be brilliant if Remedy do their thing.

I’m hyped for next gen, happy that there seem to be first party games which are not coming to Xbox One, so get to go hog wild with the new hardware, but I still think they’re not doing a great job of showing us exactly why we should care about next gen and there still wasn’t as much gameplay as I’d like.

Random thoughts:

Forza Motorsport - is this going to be a “platform” rather than a straight sequel? They also showed next to nothing of it, so it makes me think it’s way further off than we think.

Is it just me or are Bungie looking increasingly like Ol’ Gil, desperately trying to scrape the bottom of the Destiny 2 barrel while they work on whatever it is that’s going to get them out of the predicament they find themselves in.

It was similar to PS5 games reveal - Not much is at launch. Those that are at launch look fine decent games but it is likely Launch and pandemic are a bad mix and some of those other games would've had the 2020 stamp if not for our virus friend.

For me Halo Infinite is a bigger deal than ratchet and a Spiderman expansion. Ratchet? that old shite?
