No, it's just rumour that MS are even interested at this point. Would make sense for them though.

No idea. Last I heard it was still due for release on Android and iOS. Currently the iOS beta app is restricted to the Master Chief Collection, while the Android one has a whole bunch of games, but both should have the full bunch of launch games as far as I know.

I think it's that these streaming services are basically stores or content delivery systems.

 

I suspect Apple have lifted restrictions for ebooks, comics, subscriptions but not for streaming game services. On top of that there'll be the usual say Apple want to prevent any sign ups in app that don't go through their payment system so they can skim 30% for delivering an app from their store.

That makes sense (re test flight) but if it’s against their rules, why is it on that?

 

I signed up for the preview or whatever it’s called when it started and picked iOS in the options and never heard anything back. Those that picked android were up and running the same day. Bloody Apple ruining everything.

Because I suspect there are basically no restrictions at all about what can be delivered over test flight. Same as Apple couldn't stop me doing anything I want on my phone if I built my own app and loaded it.

It's not clear exactly what is referenced here? @Kryptonian said "What’s the specific reason with the App Store on iOS why xcloud isn’t going to be on there?" I cannot see what this was really referencing saying it won't be available. But I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't when Android releases. I'm not aware of any streaming game service that has made it and not sure what MS will be able to do it either without bending over for Apple somehow.

It was that and RubberJohnny's post I was confused about.

 

Like I said, Microsoft certainly intend for it to be available on iOS and haven't announced anything to the contrary so far.

MS definitely have more leverage than most.

 

But at the same time I'm not sure MS can push that as hard as they want. I think they're in a very serious war to maintain relevance in home office app relevancy vs Google Docs and not being on Apple's new ARM Macs doesn't seem like an option to them.

I'm getting quite excited about the prospect of seeing what Microsoft are bringing to the table software wise.

 

I'm first and foremost a PlayStation fan but if Microsoft can show off a couple of great concepts then it's a win for all gamers and will hopefully stop Sony from getting complacent.

Personally I think it's probably near on 100% chance it'll be on iOS long term, it's just current App Store restrictions mean they can't do multiple titles so they are just beta testing it via one (probably also due to Apple Arcade not making as much money as Apple wanted so they have kept the restrictions on).

 

However as mentioned with MS's productivity/business tools being an industry standard they will definitely want to co-operate (Apple and MS aren't the rivals they used to be) and have the leverage and cash incentive available to make it happen once they start pushing on with launch/early launch development. We may have to wait a bit but MS will want the device coverage. It's like when the Amazon Prime Video app wasn't on Apple TV for ages, it eventually all got sorted out once a few corporate hatchets were buried.
