NVIDIA GeForce 30-series: come for the lack of order updates and stock, stay for the fan discussion

Recommended Posts

Yeah i couldn't get shot i wanted as my studio is cramped at the moment so shot for a long exposure.

Eventually, once i've installed all the bloody programs my RGB will be black and white .

Its only because i've got a vision G board which is one of the few white ones but is fairly flexible and a fair cost.

I'm now running at 800mV with the boost set to 1800MHz (with +300MHz on the memory). Somehow that's now giving me 70-78FPS in Quake II RTX instead of 60-62, while also knocking off 9 degrees to bring things down to 70. My fans now sit at 1400RPM max instead of well over 2000.

Superposition results are 14183 instead of 13400, as well.

Something is niggling me to get more than 1800MHz out of it, but whenever I try it kills my performance. I'm just going to leave it like this I think.

Update: 850mV @ 1920MHz

Superposition-Benchmark-v1-1-14668-16060

The temp is back up to 79, but the fans aren't even half as loud as before.

Got a stock alert for a 3080 at Curry's for £750. Got as far as having to put my card details in and ... "We are unable to process this order". <_<

I'm not that arsed to be honest, I need a better PSU as well, and I have a 2080ti.

Had it over a week now...hitting around 14500 in Superposition's optimised 4K benchmark...

looks ace!

but cpu fan possibly the wrong way round, should be blowing air out the back of the case, although if the temps are fine don’t worry about it I guess! :)

Yeah i know but my ND15 blocks the PCI 16x slot (or i thought it would....i'll do another check). Quite annnoying tbh.

Ah right, I mean I knew those things were big but I didn’t realise they’d block slots!

I think i moved it before installing card and it looked kinda blocked - then card came and i wasn't sure but haven't got around to it. Not 100%.

In other news everything runs really well.

I think i'll start using Nvidia's experience from now on, esp. with DLSS and RTX. Seems to give best options....erm...i think.

Moved my PC to the front room, installed the 3070 and have it set up for high res, 120hz goodness.

If I was going to buy one game that’ll really show this off, what would that be? Something I could DLSS up to 4K would be ideal as I’m coming from a 1660 Super.

Control is an amazing looking game and only runs at 4K thanks to DLSS.

Metro Exodus is pretty fancy too.

Yeah....can't wait to play both of those myself. Just wanted to finish Final Light - and that looks great as is.

In fact so many older games i want to play at 60fps. I might do a dying light run through again.

Dying Light's a good shout - it was one of those games that made me sob about having a G4560 and a GTX960 along with GTAV.

Hitman 2 (and 2016 via 2) is also great - I had a quick blast on Sunday. No DLSS or Raytracing (until they shoehorn it into Hitman 3's engine along with VR, I guess), but the game is very demanding and looks lovely with all the supersampling and HDR going on.

I'd imagine that Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is also a good shout, but I never bought it as I knew it would beat the shit out of my computer at the time!

How long does it take manufacturers to honour promo games with hardware? Filled out registration details for an MSI mobo which entitles me to Ass Creed: Vicky the Viking. Think it's been about a week now...

hang on, what? You got the same motherboard as me and I didn’t see that offer.

Eurgh.

Bloody 5950s haven't arrived at Scan yet.

Bloody case hasn't been delivered yet (despite it being in stock and had 23rd Nov as the latest delivery)

Anyone would think the Lord doesn't want me to waste time playing games.

Next year, I'm turning to Satan for my shits and giggles.

I tried the game via Ubisoft+.

It was just about worth the £12.99 I paid as the game world looks great, as is usual with these, but the gameplay is dire so I still feel a little cheated.

I'm still waiting on my case, fuck knows when that'll surface. Cooler Master don't seem to be able to make anywhere near enough of them unfortunately. When was the last UK 3080FE drop too? Must be nearly 3 weeks ago now.

Oooh!

My CPU has now been picked at Scan.

Booo!

The case to put it in is no-where to be seen.

How the tech overlords mock me so!

And directly after I vowed to cut down on the porn consumption too.

Binning off a couple of my NZXT exhaust fans that came with the case and getting some Noctuas. The NZXT ones are quite loud above 50% speed and I'd like to run the case with more negative pressure so hoping these can run at a higher RPM and be quieter.

Do I have any hope of being able to buy a 3080 this side of christmas? I might be compensating for not being able to get a PS5.

Your hope is to catch a Scan drop of FE cards. Requires some planning and luck.
