I've worked it out and all because of a curtain in the old house.

It's dpad directions follow them exactly and secrets are revealed.

It also works on the grey doors

Still no idea where I'm going next mind.

Cheers for that. Found one of those puzzles in the passage between the over world and the dark forest (the first locked door you come across) that awarded me a strange little gold statue of a man and an achievement.

I love the obscurity of the items and finding out what they are as you use them. Only just realised that you can offer up certain items at shrines to grant permanent upgrades. Might explain why I was struggling so much!

Gave this a go yesterday and can't work out if I'm enjoying it or not. I think I am.

I found the first boss fight a touch infuriating and then managed to beat him with items that are limited at that point, I think. I wouldn't have beaten him otherwise.

Speaking of items, am I right in thinking they're very much limited to start, at least? I picked up a couple of bomb type things and used them up working out what they do, which just seems odd to me.

But I don't normally play these types of games. I've never been a fan of Zelda, which is what this seems to be most compared to.

I may persevere...

Have i missed a weapon? I’m hitting things with a stick and it seems far too hard.

I found the sword fairly early on. I don't remember exactly but would say it took around 45 minutes or so of playing.

Oh really? I'm here trying to fight these sword and shield guys with my proxy stick and finding it tough, there's a sword near the start? I got to some kind of miniboss through guardhouses and got my ass kicked quite thoroughly. Maybe I've gone too far in.

How does this work? Maybe I was assuming I had upgrades because I had certain items but don’t.

Press LB to open the items and press A/X on the upgrade items in the bottom right. Once you've done it the first time, they'll reveal what aspect they level up.

So I played the demo on PC an age back. Loved it.

Loaded up the Gamepass version on PC yesterday...instant BSOD. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it's instant BSOD each time. Are the specs that high on it? Or is this just me? Everything else works fine right now so I don't think it's an issue with my PC.

Edit, apparently it's a known issue to do with anti viral conflicts.

Microsoft has patched this and you can launch it without instant crashes on PC.

Plans for next week sorted!

I found two swords so far! One in the hero's grave area and the other in a chest behind one of those silver doors in the garden area.

I believe you can make it to a point without having a sword, there's even an achievement for doing so. Quite how you cut through bushes without it, although you can use bombs to destroy bushes as well.

I finished the West Garden boss yesterday - not using assists yet, although I did grind a little to get the money to buy stuff. Not really sure where to go next - I found a path that gets me to the Forbidden place, but I don't think I need to be there yet (that, and there seems to be no save points).

Spoiler

I did let out an audible 'what the fuck' when the instruction manual page detailed you can press RB on the shrines to actually power up your character. Same with the 'hold A to break into a dash after the roll' page!

If you have rung both bells. You need to go back to the temple with the big golden door.

Ah, yeah, I've done that and I've gone in the temple already - should have been clearer, my bad. I'm guessing I need to access something else in there, as the only things I could comprehend were three plinths, which was why I ended up venturing north and getting demolished.

Spoilers for where to go next...

Spoiler

At the plinth you are to put the MacGuffins in there's an exit in the East wall. Follow this around to get up the the second level of the temple and out on to the higher levels of the cliffs. Mooching about will bring you to a switch above the save point in front of the temple. This will open up a new path to the Eastern Fortress.

Completed ending A over the weekend and managed to control my urge to read up on mysteries I wasn't sure if I could solve.

General puzzle concepts but non-specific spoilers ahead:

Spoiler

Which it turns out is a lot because I thought the Holy Cross would be an item or at least explained after beating Agahnim. But like all the other puzzles, it was within me all along.

It's so smart how the instruction manual is also a map, strategy guide, storytelling device, soft ability lock and puzzle in itself.

This is fantastic from what I’ve played so far, and feels like a love letter to classic games of the 80’s/90’s. It’s basically old school Zelda (also reminds me of Ys the Vanished Omens on the Master System) combined with Dark Souls and Fez. Love the manual mechanic, which no doubt comes from the developer playing Import Games. Really simple idea but.......really, really cool!!!
