Quick blast on it, it really is lovely - it's playing very heavily on the player not having a clue what's going on, but it's nice how it all unravels via a 8/16-bit style instruction manual.

Early game theory:

Spoiler

I'm already expecting some wild shit, considering it starts you on Page 10 of the manual and there's lots of scribbled notes all over the pages.

This is bloody brilliant, a proper old school Zelda like. I love the flow of it, wandering around, opening up areas to explore and creating paths.

Died a handful of times, first was just before getting the sword (Which really makes a difference once you have it). Also a couple of areas I got trounced on which will need to be proper explored later on when a bit more stronger no doubt.

This was made in Nova Scotia, Canada (which is where I currently live)

Went to a talk once with the creator, nice guy, took a huge scary risk on this by leaving a secure studio job to go and create his first company/game.

This is great! Made it to the first sword (if that's a spoiler, you're playing the wrong game...). It's challenging, and I enjoy finding the hidden paths as mentioned above. I can see the difficulty ramping, I've already resorted to cheesing a couple of ads but sense that the game wants the player to take that approach.

I really like this. But it is a tough game on occasion.  Groups of the croc enemies are overwhelming.

Currently exploring the West Gardens and have had a delightful time getting there.

The moments of realisation when you find a shortcut in the early game are great.

And the slow reveal of more translated words in the manual.

Will continue to play.

On the West Gardens and the difficulty has just gone through the roof. When it you get to the bit where it's basically got two of the shooty things and a couple crocs and it's just ridiculous. I made it through to the boss of the area but he trounced me instantly as I'd used all my health potions getting there. Interestingly the manual suggests you need 3 attack and defence to get there. I'm on 2 of each, no idea where to find another two. I can't actually find anywhere else to go that isn't through that whole host of enemies again and I now keep getting killed really early on. I'll do another loop to see if I've missed stuff but to be honest, it it's this difficult early on I'm not sure I can be bothered. I was looking for something a bit more sedate to play between Elden Ring sessions, it looks like this wasn't the game I was looking for.

I'm in the same boat, was looking to Tunic for a breezy indie palette cleanser from Elden Ring - only to find myself iframe rolling, chugging estus flasks, and legging it out of scary endgame looking areas. Not the game's fault of course and will definitely persevere. That in-game manual alone deserves all the praise it's getting.

Yep, West Gardens is a huge difficulty spike. The Chompy guys and flying dickheads can feck off. I did manage to get the icy Dagger though and find a shrine to save at so happy with that. Feels like I'm missing a ranged weapon, would probably make the game to easy though.

So I played the demo on PC an age back. Loved it.

Loaded up the Gamepass version on PC yesterday...instant BSOD. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and it's instant BSOD each time. Are the specs that high on it? Or is this just me? Everything else works fine right now so I don't think it's an issue with my PC.

Edit, apparently it's a known issue to do with anti viral conflicts.

Spec requirements should/would never cause a BSOD.

Garden knight boss taken down without using accessibility.  Proud of that as he was tough.

Now lost though and have no idea where to go next. Discovered a snowy mountain and was only a page there.  Found the forest fortress again no idea how to progress. Obtuse game is obtuse. Still like it though.

I've gone with the no stamina no fail options, as there is just no way that I have the patience or the ability to get through it otherwise. However having now done that I feel that I'm not properly being gated by areas as I can just brute force through everything. I've discovered a couple of cool things but the whole, I still have to do combat but it's now just basically wasting my time is putting me off. I think it's a shame they haven't made it more granular, so rather than all or nothing they had options that were for example 50% less damage or 50% more attack power, stuff like that. Or other options, like your health/and or magic regens. It's basically you either suck it up and git gud or we will treat you like a child.

I really like what the game is trying to do in the whole exploration, finding pages of the manual, etc. however for me personally I think the difficulty of the combat is terribly judged. It's punishing enough that you don't really now what to do, but when any mistake in combat can put you back a resonable way it just doesn't allow for the kind of experminentation that the game requires IMO. Take for example the bombs, they are really powerful and you should be using them, but they are finite. Now it encourages you to use them, and if you do you get some by default when you spawn (I assume this number will go up the more times you do this). However the default really isn't enough to allow you to use them when you want. You end up hording them just in case.

Also and it maybe I've missed it, but the counter to the Souls difficulty is that you can just grind out levels. In this that isn't an options (before the afformentioned grinding for bombs, which requires you to grind enemies to get the cash to buy the bombs .....).

Apparently there are a load of secret items you can find in this which involve deciphering codes in the in game manual, standing In specific spots in the game world and inputting button combos. Not sure what these items grant you, maybe more money?

I've worked it out and all because of a curtain in the old house.

Spoiler

It's dpad directions follow them exactly and secrets are revealed.

It also works on the grey doors

Still no idea where I'm going next mind.

Finally solved the windmill puzzle (with a little help from my son) and it was so satisfying when we figured it out.

Still don't know how to get down to the beach area near the start of the game to grab the page and open the chest though!
