Don’t use hard ass while talking to fish lips. It chokes the game.

I had that problem, what fixes it for me is, if you’re skipping dialogue, wait a minute after the fight starts - as the dialogue is still running in the background and if you try to perform an action during that time then the game freezes.

Wasteland 2 was just as shaky as this after release, sadly.

Dear lord. On the plus side, they pushed a patch on PC today that apparently fixes this.

You mean you have a Party Pal ;)

Question

He's randomly stopped moving in combat? Any ideas?

Also character beginning with Pro- question?

What the fuck was that about? He's been randomly following me for ages, then I find an Owl coin, find the illuminati and get a perk? :S

Off to Aspen now - think I've done pretty much everyside thing. Brain Candy is my favourite side mission :D

PP does that. I think the companion AI is well wonky as I've had fights where any tamed animals get right in the thick of it, attacking anything in sight and running across the map to tear a chuck out of something and other times, where they'll sit in the corridor chilling out and having a fag while I'm getting torn a new arsehole.

I think your second spoiler is fan service and a nod to previous games.

As for your favourite mission, ho-ho- horseshit :D

This game (just like its predecessors) makes me realize its not that I'm loosing an interest in gaming, its just that games that follows a modern formula wont keep me interested long enough for me to complete them. (with a few exceptions) inXile Entertainment deserves all the credit in the world for sticking with the formula and not messing up by introducing "new features we belive are wanted by gamers". There are so many beloved franchises that died because (probably) some executive or lead designer pushed for innovation, resulting in a game that's nothing like the game that gave you success in the first place. (Rage 2...whatever happened there? And the Halo games, I lost interest after 343 industries took over because its not the Halo I fell in love with)

The choices you have to make and the consequences you have to suffer is so refreshing, especially when we have an industry where everything is so streamlined that gameplay requires very little thinking. Other games that takes place in a post apocalyptic scenario is often painted beautifully (Mad Max was absolutely gorgeous and so was Fallout 3) but the world of Wasteland is not a beautiful one, and I really wouldn't want to experience it firsthand. If other post apocalyptic games are Waterworld, then Wasteland is Cormac McCarthy's The Road.

The points you have to invest in skills and the party you have to assemble all requires you to actually stop and think for a minute, especially since you know you are travelling through a world where the choices you have made will affect the outcome and your ability to solve a problem. Didn't bother with a certain skill? Tough luck, go to bed hungry.

I got this on Game Pass at the moment but I'm going to purchase it for sure. Companies that create quality are to be rewarded, even though I could complete it for free.

100%. This is a very clear continuation of the classic old school western RPG genre. The original Wasteland. Fallout 1 and 2. Gold Box AD&D. Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment.

Sticking with the things that make these games so fondly remembered but updating the UI and adding in all of the quality of life improvements that we have come to expect from modern games. Backed it in the original crowdfunding campaign and so glad that I did. Love it.

just buy another six months of games pass. That’s clearly the metric Microsoft are going to be measuring “success” by.

It does kind of annoy me how useless assault rifles are in this game. I’m using the best one from standard merchants and it’s barely ok. Easily outclassed by my pistoleer group member who’s using a hand cannon. Especially now I’m at the point where enemies are getting well armoured. There’s a better one available from rare encounters on the world map, but I never have the cash to get everything I want from those merchants.

At a certain point you won't bother with assault rifles, as there is an auto cannons perk at 8 I think called stormer which needs an smg, and if you have two team members with that...

Well... I would expect it to get a nerf cool down in a patch lol

In my second play through I made an extra character with just barter as his skill. Don't sell anything when out, and head back to base, then switch him in when selling to take advantage of his antiquing lol

And done.

I think it goes down a bit towards the end. Sidequests etc seem to dry up and there's a feeling of rushed.

I don't think some of the ending worked. With the "build your party" system I never switched from the first 2. (Plus the later ones all seem evil and/or useless)

Felt like it would be easier to be a bastard in this game. The choice at the end felt very "Grey vs Black".

The Patriarch is clearly shady, but Arizona needs supplies and he's not been evil as you think. The Dad tells you it was him that pushed to kill.

Deth on the other hand wants to murder everyone, work with slavers (sending them off while calling the Patrich bathed in blood) and starts a Rebellion.

So I went with him - seemed a good ending. A little upset that as I'd jailed mother cotta I had to kill refugees depiste them adoring me

Angela Deth is mad as a box of frogs. Yeah, she had an uncompromising personality in the previous games, but her shift in this one feels a little weird.

Why is she so willing to say ‘ah, fuck em!’ to the rangers back in Arizona, especially when her old team-mate, Vargas, gave his life to that cause. Is it ego? In some twisted way, is she jealous of how Vargas went out? Making such a sizeable difference to the world? I don’t think so. Deth never really cared about command, or plaudits, but she was fiercely loyal to the rangers.

So, some kind of PTSD or guilt at having survived Cochise not once, but twice? I think that’s closer to it. So many of her old team-mates are dead now. She needs her life to mean something seismic, to justify just being alive, but not being accustomed to living that way means her plans are ill thought through.

Or, maybe she is just as simplistic a person as the General says, and sees things in black and white with no willingness to compromise. I’d like to think there was a little more to it, though.

I got to speak to McTavish yesterday. This is possibly the first game I’ve heard the word “c*nt” in...

Now us Scots generally use the word like it’s going out of fashion, more in an endearing way than as a nasty insult, but it was just weird to hear it in a game.

Yes!

l have a lot of love for JRPG's (Final Fantasy, Grandia, Skies of Arcadia etc) but playing Wasteland reminds me of the differences. I think that 15-20  years ago (I might be completely wrong about this) western developers started to borrow ideas and concepts from JRPG's. The result being more railroading in games.

So.....I just finished a quest. Someone betrayed someone and caused the unnecessary deaths of innocent women and children that were unable to defend themselves....because they were being coerced by a more powerful faction.  I was in the position where I would decide their fate...so what should I do? First I figured that anyone would have done what they would have done in order to survive. I'm not a hero, so who am I to criticize? Then I realized that their weakness is a potential risk, so why risk anything? Better to be safe than sorry right?

I ended up killing them all for their sins, but then I felt bad because who am I to judge? :(

I think that a revival of western RPG's would be a good thing. It could be a new renaissance!

Regarding Wasteland 1 specifically, I got most of my lore before the remastered version came to pass by watching the brilliant playthrough by mynameisnotlilly. Genuinely one of, if not the only series of "Let's Play" videos that I've thoroughly enjoyed since the inception of Youtube.

And a much quicker run through here if anybody is interested

Finished it last night. Overall, a lot of fun. The writing was especially interesting to me as I attempt the same balance of goofiness and drama in my own. For me, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Here, most of the time it does, which is testament to the writers. I like the sense that many people have lost their minds, some just a little bit, some an awful lot, and that's why the daftness never feels too out of place. Puns can follow, or precede, a firefight because fuck it. How else would you deal with living in this horrible, dystopian future? It's easy to dismiss the Payaso's philosophy of 'everything is a joke' the first time you hear it, before you realise you've made your way through the game cracking wise at psychopaths, mocking deranged cultists, and having sex with a robot. Every time an actual moral quandary comes up, it's like everyone who's gone crazy had the best idea; because in this world, it's a really shitty feeling to be the responsible one.

Story aside, I didn't care for the streamlining of some combat mechanics. In Wasteland 2, when one of your team members got downed, it had to be a trained medic who revived them but here anyone can do it. That made a lot of the fights feel more trivial as a result. I think there was also a change regarding getting the first shot in during a fight. I can't explain the mechanics, but it was something to do with initiative, and Wasteland 2 measured your character's skills to see if you had that initiative. In Wasteland 3 if you just take the first shot outside of combat then you're golden. Also I think the APC just being able to drive over enemies is unbalanced. I was certainly grateful for it in certain situations, but it did seem overpowered.

It does feel like the game was truncated, whether because the developers ran out of time or for future DLC, and kind of belly flops the final 1/3. It's difficult to measure it against Wasteland 2, because that game had you traversing quite a lot of empty space on the main map, but I do think this game was hurt by not having another, smaller map to transition to like W2 did with L.A. Also, there are locations on the map that look intriguing but can't be interacted with. Most particularly, the cluster of geodesic domes in one corner. Dataminers have said that they found a lot of cut content in the code, but it may well just be the building blocks for future DLC. Two factions which weren't in the game, references to a 'Steeltown' and the 'Cheyenne Mountain Complex' which is a military bunker and backup for NORAD. It's also implied that the Patriarch was trying to re-unite his family due to an impending, greater threat.

Hearing that the development team is only around seventy people explains a lot of the jank, and it's a credit to the game that most players have persevered despite it. I just hope that InExile don't go the way of Bethesda, where they get too comfortable with running smaller teams and don't like hiring new people because it takes too long to get them up to speed. Of course, InExile do have one advantage there, in that they're not tied to one engine like Bethesda are with their Frankenstein's monster, and Unity has just about reached the end of its life. Hopefully some of that MS money is used to expand, and find a suitable new engine. If they can shore up the kind of technical weaknesses that make Wasteland 3 stumble and trip, then InExile's future looks pretty bright. I absolutely want Wasteland 4.

So this has started failing to load from the shortcut, I just get the the main photo and a never ending revolving circle.

I have to physically reboot my PC and Task Manager won’t even let me close it!

Loads fine from within the Beta App tho...

But enough moaning about the glitches, this is rapidly becoming my game of the year! The painting of

Spoiler

Ronald Reagan riding a raptor

is just one of the little touches of genius featured in this game.

I’m just taking it slow and steady, making the decisions I feel are right - sometimes this makes people hate me, but screw them my sniper skills are maxed out :eyebrows:

Well I’m finished. It’s been quite a ride, several bugs and crashes but they didn’t stop me from falling completely in love with this game. Interesting ending where I took down the Patriarch and seemingly fucked up most of America! But the refugees loved me :D

Its gotta be my GotY. Roll on some DLC, I’ll be picking that up day one.
