Thought this maybe warranted its own thread since discussion on it is currently split between the Gamepass, Switch and eShop threads.

I love the art style, animation and premise, but kind of switched off when they showed the management side of things, which I always believed wasn’t my thing, but then I remembered how much I grew to love the various management sub games in the Yakuza series, and how much I’ve been enjoying the base management in between missions in MGS: Peace Walker which I’m currently playing. I feel like I’ve been living a lie telling myself I don’t like management sims, or maybe it’s something I’ve grown into, but whatever.

Spiritfarer also looks to have a little bit of platforming and exploration, so it could actually be a really sweet blend of stuff.

I thought this was a lovely review on Gamexplain:

Anyone going in on it? Curious to see how good or otherwise the co-op component is (player 2 can go the cat!)

Just a heads up for everyone, it's 175zar on the South Africa eshop. About 9euro.

Looked excellent yesterday so picked up that and A Short Hike. Didn't get a chance to play either yesterday but looking forward to Spiritfarer tonight

I started this yesterday, and it's lovely. The animation is gorgeous, and the whole thing is really charming, if you'll excuse the cliché.

It does take a while to take the training wheels off mind. I've only played for an hour or so, but it was still teaching me new stuff and there were no actual challenges to face. I did get my first new traversal ability though.

I read the EG review today and was a little alarmed to see it takes a good thirty hours to play through the critical path, but I've enjoyed what I've played so far and I don't think I've experienced anything quite like it before. I'm really keen to play more.

GOTY.

In all seriousness, a couple of hours in and this is really lovely. It's just an incredibly chill experience, at least so far. I'm hoping it doesn't reach a point where they start piling pressure on you, I'll be more than happy if it's this pace throughout.

I played an hour or so this morning and it’s really chill and lovely. Some quite funny dialogue too. If it really does take 30hours to get through then I’m not sure I will ever finish it, unless it’s really special indeed!

This is the kind of thing that gets on my GOTY list. Lovely so far and I get more than a hint of Animal Crossing vibes from it (not just from the raccoon above) so I searched for ‘Spiritfarer + Animal Crossing’ and yep.

That’s quite the combo of influences to live up to and it’s doing a fine job.

Played a couple of hours this afternoon and it is absolutely delightful. As already mentioned, the visuals and animation are superb and it plays really nicely too.

I've always liked the idea of these base management type games but without the pressure of micro managing to avoid failure, and I believe that is the case here. I understand consequence can be an important driver, but I think this is pulled along by it's characters and their stories.

A complete surprise, and amazing that it is on gamepass.

I ran into a couple of "rare" achievements quite early on the critical path yesterday, which suggests that not many people are playing this. :(

It's really good. There's a lot of busywork, but it's all quite breezy and all in service of the characters and their stories, which are brilliant. I took my first passenger to the Everdoor yesterday, and, well. :(

I was worried by the long running time to start with but I think I could easily play this for thirty hours.

Absolutely loved Sundered, so I'm very intrigued as to what Thunder Lotus has lined up next. Especially as this is the complete opposite approach to death and loss that Sundered took. Going to savor this over the weekend. :)

Is this by the same people who did Sundered? That game is terribly overlooked, a great murdererathon.

It certainly was. :D Should replay the upgraded version on Switch one of these days.

I've been playing this for almost two hours and although the beginning is pretty much on rails, I can see what it's trying to do. My best description at the moment would be "Animal Crossing on a Boat". Lots of mini-games and a laid-back atmosphere. Really liking it. The graphical style of the boat keeps reminding me of Townscaper

Now hopefully things will open up a bit as the tutorials take a backseat.

Anybody else playing this on Game Pass on PC and having save issues?

I put four hours into it, save and quitted via the menu, and now when I reboot it continue is greyed out.

A quick google tells me it's a known bug...

Edit: just tried starting a new game, playing for 10 minutes, then going to "Save and Quit", and there's still no option to continue. Which makes it seem like the Game Pass for Windows version can't save at all!

I've got to the point where it has opened up, and finding it too 'chill'. Some aspects like the sailing, ship building, cooking etc are all enjoyable enough but the mini-games for the crafting are just not fun. Many of them are just mundane, not relaxing. The song you play to grow plants is the same thing over and over but really slow so you are barely doing anything. The bellows in the foundry just far enough apart to be annoying. I like all these things in Stardew, but this just isn't clicking for me.

You don't need to pay the song to grow plants, as they grow quite quickly without it. The song just speeds things up if you want stuff in a hurry. One of your passengers well actually play it for you too, if you keep them happy enough.

It's certainly chill, but I'm funding it incredibly addictive and very rewarding too.

^ I started this on console and continued on PC so it seems I was lucky.

Anyway, yes. I'm a blokey bloke, I like beer, rock, action movies, that sort of thing. Just had my first trip to

the everdoor with Gwen

and I'm in pieces. Nah, not pieces but I did genuinely shed tears. This is the first time a game's made me cry I think. Mind, looking back, a trope in movies that always hit me hard was

happy but tearful goodbyes

which is basically this game's entire premise, so no surprise there. I think this game is making me understand why the womenfolk like watching movies that'll make 'em blub.

Not looking forward to

saying goodbye to Summer in particular. D':
