DC Megathread

It’s difficult to rate him as an actor either way given he’s best known for playing a, uh, cyborg. Just had a look at his IMDb and there’s DC and a season of True Detective. Cyborg was the best part of the Snyder Cut, but I don’t know that he brought much to it.

Is he trying to equate Jos Whedon’s actions with James Gunn doomscrolling Twitter? Not a good look.

We spent a while feeling sorry for Ben, then we spent a while feeling sorry for Ray and now it’s Henry’s turn again.

What does that matter? It's always weird when people use money as some kind of counter-argument to bad news. He is wealthy anyway, I doubt the fee means all that much, but the loss for him is a character that, by all accounts, he loved playing.

Christ, what a mess the dc comics movies are. They lurch from one disaster to another.

I am not sure what is even happening now.  Are they rebooting everything with all new casts?  Is The Flash being released? What about the Shazam and Aquaman sequels?

Gunn doesn’t seem to have made astute decisions so far.

Looks like Dwayne Johnson as Black Adam is also out - comes on the day it was revealed that reshoots on the movie cost $70M.

Quote

“James Gunn and I connected, and Black Adam will not be in their first chapter of storytelling. However, DC and Seven Bucks have agreed to continue exploring the most valuable ways Black Adam can be utilized in future DC multiverse chapters,” announced Johnson on Twitter. “James and I have known each other for years and have always rooted for each other to succeed. It’s no different now, and I will always root for DC (and Marvel) to win and win big.”

Johnson also thanked the fans for their support during this time.

“You guys know me and I have very thick skin — and you can always count on me to be direct with my words. These decisions made by James and DC leadership represent their vision of DCU through their creative lens. After 15 years of relentless hard work to finally make Black Adam, I’m very proud of the film we delivered for fans worldwide. I will always look back on the fan reaction to Black Adam with tremendous gratitude, humility, and love.”

It also looks like that while Wonder Woman 3 isn't happening, Gal Gadot might still be Wonder Woman. Unless he's saying that Gadot walked away rather than being booted?

Ray Fisher making it all about him again.

Whedon is disgraced, Walter Hamada is gone, you'd think he'd want to move on.

Well, Davis staying was Waller seems to be the only confirmed casting so far. But

Drew Goddard and Tom King? :omg:

Damian Wayne, aka the best Robin? :omg:

The Ta-Nehisi Coates Superman project is still alive? :omg:

The Brave and the Bold:

The project is based on the run of Batman comics authored by Grant Morrison, who Gunn said was “exceptionally influential” on the DCU.

:omg:

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow - I haven't read the Tom King comic this is based on, but I saw people describe it as a cosmic superhero version of True Grit (with Supergirl in the Rooster Cogburn role). Which doesn't sound like the way most people would want her portrayed, but the comic was well-received.

Paradise Lost - I often find that pre-Diana Themyscira tends to be out a bit like pre-Kal El Krypton: one of the less interesting bits of the story to tell. But again, I've heard good things about the comic that's been doing that (Wonder Woman Historia: The Amazons).

“We didn’t fire Henry. Henry was never cast,” said Gunn. “For me, it’s about who do I want to cast as Superman and who do the filmmakers we have want to cast. And for me, for this story, it isn’t Henry.”

He added: “I like Henry, I think he’s a great guy. I think he’s getting dicked around by a lot of people, including the former regime at this company. But this Superman is not Henry, for a number of reasons.”

And the executives also tried to walk the line of if and how to deal with actors who stepped into controversy, with Shazam!‘s Zachary Levi being the most recent example. On the weekend, Levi tweeted words against pharmaceutical giant Pfizer, known for its COVID-19 vaccine, which many interpreted as the actor having anti-vaccine views.

“Actors, filmmakers that I work with are going to say things that I agree with, and things that I don’t agree with,” said Gunn, who in 2018 was temporarily fired by Disney as director of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to old, offensive tweets. “I can’t be changing my plans all the time because an actor says something that I don’t agree with. At the same token, if someone is doing something that is morally reprehensible, that’s a different story. And we have to take that into account.”

That Supergirl series was fantastic but a straight movie adaptation will lose a lot of the appeal based on how it's structured and how incredible the art was. Hollywood is shit at making alien worlds, if it comes out looking like an episode of Boba Fett I'll kick their furniture over.

I really want to see the 'so bad it would have hurt the company and the people who made it' Glasgow Batgirl movie now
