That’s really disappointing. I wish they’d make a clean break and let someone who isn’t a complete fucking idiot do versions of these characters that aren’t completely divorced from the things that make people like them. The longer they keep putting this horrible, meaningless, angry, murdering superman on screen the more he becomes the default and we end up with a generation of people who think that’s what the character is.

Wait, who is the complete fucking idiot? Snyder or Cavill?

I think Cavill could be a great Superman if given the material to work with.

Snyder. Cavil is fine, but it’s kinda like how they always cast Spider-Man, he’s only half the character. He’s a good Superman, but I don’t believe him as Clark at all, and with Superman that’s essential because he doesn’t wear a mask. A good Superman needs to be able to be believable as Clark, and he’s just too charismatic to pull it off, like an inverse Brandon Routh.

But given to a better writter and director he may what you're looking for. As long as they get rid of Synder it could work.

It could, but it will still be intrinsically linked to the absolutely broken origin Snyder gave him which is my other problem. He’ll always be a Superman who snaps necks and watches innocent people die and never does anything unless someone else tells him to. I also think it’s extremely likely with DC caving and releasing Snyder’s version of Justice League that they’re bringing him back on board to ruin their characters for another ten years.

My only hope is that JC:Snyder gets critically bombed so they get rid of him. I'm sure they've only done this anyway to get those HBO Max subs up.

Or give Tyler Hoechlin (Supergirl's Superman) a chance to play him on the big screen?

Please god no. I watched Crisis and he was incredibly wooden.

I can’t see it doing any better than the rest of his terrible DC shite, Warner would be insane to let him take a full movie budget and waste it for a fourth time, but Warner are fucking crazy.

Critics don't matter. It could be the worst reviewed film of all time and the Snyder Cult will still worship their messiah.

He’s not my Superman, but he’s toward the best of a bad bunch. He’s not Dean Cain.

His political views aside, I always really rated Dean Cain as Clark and, to a lesser extent, Superman.

Its a pity about his views as I'm sure they cost him a cameo in Crisis.

That’s actually completely fair, though I’d say more middle of the pack. Dean Cain is again fine as superman, probably better than Cavil, though in anything not written and created by idiots he’s great so I’m sure given decent material to work with he would be better.

Watching crisis showed to me just how awesome Routh looked as superman again, he made that Tyler look like a knock off called Suppamin, that you'd find on Alibaba.

Still, Cavill won a bunch more geek points with Witcher, and now his PC building escapade so he'll be a massive draw, and has proved he can act, given the right script. I do agree he doesn't pull off useless Clark that well so far though...

Snyder may be out of the DC universe. NYT have an interview (paywalled) with the WB head of DC Films. In it they mention execs describing the Snyder Cut as a storytelling cul-de-sac, which isn't surprising. But there's also mention of Snyder not being part of the current DC blueprint.

They also now have a goal of making two movies a year for HBO Max for smaller or riskier characters, in addition to the bigger characters in cinema, up to four a year. As well as the TV spin-offs, some of which were already announced.

There's a fascinating story here which I hope we get to hear one day.

Whedon, by all accounts, inspired pretty decent loyalty and respect from actors he worked with in the past but some shit seems to have gone down on the set of Justice League.

There must be a decent behind the scenes book regarding the whole troubled production of Justice League.
