While I’m 100% correct, I’d rather everyone watched it for themselves. They might like it, alternatively misery loves company.

Maybe more like 1%! ;)

It does seem marmite, and I can understand why. It achieves a tone which is quite unusual in SF which is smart and mysterious, building a futuristic vision wide open for exploration without miring itself in unnecessary exposition (so far)...which is not for everyone.

That sounds fucking great! I’d be well into that show if they ever make it.

I finished this the other night, thought is sagged somewhat in the middle but overall I liked it.

Spoiler

It was certainly worth sticking with for the birth scene. I'd seen a picture on Sky Atlantic page showing Mother holding a little baby in her hand and was annoyed that they'd ruined the reveal for me - but oh my word. Loved the way they played it with Mother not wanting to let anybody see it, so ashamed of what she had created. And Father so pleased. Just brilliant stuff. They've become two iconic characters in Sc-Fi now, give it time.

well that all took a turn, overall I loved this but not entirely happy about the direction of events in the last episode

Spoiler

and by that I mean the birth of a giant flying eel thing

the mother/father android arguing though was passively aggressive cold logic brilliant - love how they both played it

found a good article interviewing the showrunner about the last episode and beyond which clarifies a few things (spoilers obviously if you've not finished) - I do take comfort somewhat from their claim that they have the main story arcs of 5-6 seasons mapped out so whilst this may be batshit they aren't trying to solve problems they've painted themselves into and not thought about already

Spoiler

I do like his explanation to think of mother's reproductive capabilities as like a 3d printer, whereby she can 'birth' something if given the right source materials to make it

Up to episode 5 now, caved and bought it on Apple TV. The title tune  is so good and the soundtrack in general is fantastic, love it.

It's not comfortable viewing at times and I was thinking that it's almost Sci-Fi horror, there's a creeping sense of dread and some of the body horror is full on.

I'm really enjoying how it subverts your feelings towards characters almost on a episode basis, it's nicely done.As much as I like Travis Fimmel he only really plays one character in anything I've seen him in ( Vikings/Warcraft/this) which works okay in this context again and as people have mentioned Father is excellent.

There was some interesting stuff in here, and some great imagery - I loved the

Spoiler

mad scene of the alien person imprisoned in the dodecahedron with bizarre white milk coming out of their snout

  - but I found the end of this pretty unsatisfying. Not in terms of the

Spoiler

flying god-eel

, which was deliciously insane , but more in terms of the programme piling up mystery upon mystery, and declining to resolve any of them. The showrunner has said that they've got it all planned out for 5 or 6 series, and I get the creeping feeling of dread that they're going to spin these enigmas out for as long as they possibly can, occasionally doling out a crumb of resolution, but generally deciding to keep you spoilbound to the whole thing. I feel that you need to provide some kind of resolution at this stage, if nothing else just as a show of good faith - that there are answers for these questions, and that they're going to be satisfying ones.

On the basis of what they've shown so far, I seriously doubt the mysteries are going to be very satisfying when resolved -

Spoiler

the daft idea of humans 'devolving' put me off, as did the idea of the shuttle flying through the planet's core and out the other side. I'm fairly certain that, on the basis of those ideas (and the showrunner's explanation in the interview above, which amounts to "well, you can't do that on Earth, but who's to say you couldn't fly through the core of another planet?")

that they're not going to come up with answers that I'm going to like.

Which is fine obviously, it's clearly not a programme for everyone, but at the same time I am fairly sure that it's not going to be for me.

I only just watched this over the last few days.

that last episode was a massively great amount of wtf.

i understand the feelings that it might not be explained well, but after that end I’m definitely not going to give up already!

Just finished this. The start of it was the best part really and while it wasn't quite as good once

Spoiler

the religious nuts arrived

it was still excellent. It all became completely fucking bananas by the end though and I barely understood what was going on.

The relationship between the two androids was astounding; so much brilliant - and often very funny - dialogue.

Some new characters for season 2, part of an atheist colony the family join.

https://deadline.com/2021/05/raised-by-wolves-ridley-scotts-hbo-max-sci-fi-drama-adds-six-season-2-1234760510/

Quote

Christoffersen will play “Cleaver,” a devoted atheist soldier, veteran of the war on Earth, whose only friend is the super computer he has been sworn to protect.

Jones will play “Grandmother,” a god-like android, built thousands of years ago by members of the lost civilization that existed on Kepler 22b.

Santo will play “Vrille,” a fully humanoid android custom built to look and behave just as the real Vrille Pell did the year she committed suicide. Vrille is rebellious, impulsive, dark – and has an affection for rabbits and other small animals, which she likes to pet and hold when she is overtaxed. Though fairly stable, certain triggers cause Vrille to enter states of confusion, obsession and mania.

Harkness will play “Tamerlane,” an atheist army grunt soldier with a defiant personality. His early life was a horror – until he found his calling with the atheist army, fighting the Mithraic on Earth. But now that he’s a member of the burgeoning atheist colony on Kepler 22b he is expected to forget the hate he feels towards his enemy and accept a number of Mithraic as neighbors – an expectation which he violently rebels against.

Engelbrecht will play “Decima.” Highly educated, Decima was a prominent scientist/weapons developer on Earth who did a lot of immoral things in order to achieve success/domination in her field. She is notoriously ruthless – but still carries guilt – though she erased much of her guilty feelings with futuristic therapies she personally helped develop.

Saayeng will play “Nerva,” a tough atheist woman who runs an underground network of goods and services. Nerva is a civilian who was brought aboard a hijacked ark along with many others, simply due to geography and the fact they identified as atheists. Nerva lost a child to disease during the trip to Kepler – and often secretly looks out for children living in the colony.

Apparently there's a teaser for season 2 of this before Dune on HBO Max, and it's coming out early next year. Can't wait.

Oh nice. I’m hoping last season’s

Second season starts in February, trailer has been released:

First 15 seconds was enough to have me onboard, had to turn it off there as I don’t want to spoil the surprises!

I was always going to watch this intrigued at how the first season ended, oddly no giant flying snake in the trailer, it's almost like they trying to distance it from that weirdness to draw people back with spaceships, androids, guns and the usual sci-fi fluff.
