second season syndrome is often talked about, how once teams have had a good look at the newly promoted sides that survive they work them out if doing anything tactically different like Sheffield were last season, that fall from grace so far is huge though, they look wretched.

I don't think any teams should sign a younger player Liverpool are willing to let go for big money, this isn't a dig at Liverpool, I think the club has possibly one of the finest set of analysts at working a player out, incoming or outgoing, then extracting a sizeable fee.

Yep, that's how Ipswich managed to finish in 5th on their return to the prem, then got relegated the next season, and have now started plumbing the depths of mediocrity in League 1 :(

That analysis is some NASA levels of study, almost literally, as they have used astrophysicists on the stats team. Liverpool’s playing style is ingrained from the Academy upwards too now, as demonstrated by the ease in which players like Curtis Jones and Neco Williams have slotted into the first team. Getting £24m for Brewster*, who had zero Premier League appearances is some Ocean’s 11 levels of heisting, and a worthy follow-up to getting £15m for Jordan Ibe.

*I like Brewster, and hope he has a successful career but perhaps would have been better off with a Championship club, in a division where he has performed well, before returning to the top flight.

I’m wondering what the hell has happened there. They looked a very solid outfit last season and Brewster looked a very smart signing.

two words...Dean...henderson

no really, the Sheff utd team is the same, the keeper is vastly different!

I think it shocking we haven't played him after bringing him back, as tbh, when he plays, the defence seems FAR more composed and confident!, becasue he is constantly talking and shouting to them! and degea is a liability these days...

You can't put all that down to the keeper, surely?

Jack O'Connell is more of a loss than Henderson. They're not playing the same way without him; the replacements who've come in can't play the overlapping centre back role that O'Connell did so effectively for United last season. Henderson is a better keeper than Ramsdale but the keeper doesn't impact the style of football Sheffield United play in the same way someone like Ederson does for City.

Dyche has beaten 2728 out of the 29 Premier League sides that he’s faced.

I'm surprised you haven't gone full dizogg in the Arsenal thread. You'd be entitled to in all honesty.

Funny though it is, having seen a few clips over the weeks, I’m more and more convinced they are staging most of it for the cameras.  (The bald guy in the background is sitting there expressionless despite having a worse meltdown a few weeks ago and yesterday when Clarets scored yer man was calmly asking to destroy his chair before suddenly going off on one.)

Half a million quid a year will get you that.
