Wednesday going ahead twice, but never getting out the relegation zone.

Has any team done as little as Derby to stay up.  Lost the previous 6 and only got 6 points from the last 14 games!

Amazingly, there was a window where Wednesday were safe, and it was the time between Cardiff's equaliser and Derby's equaliser which came to a grand total of... 3 seconds.

50 points in most leagues is just above relegation

Citation needed.

I think you're blinded by the 46-game seasons in the Football League, which are far from the norm.

i didn’t want to do anything other than poke fun at my team, Leeds spent 100m in the summer, only Chelsea spent more - rags to riches my arse! They’ve bought success as much as any of the prem league clubs and what Sheffield Utd did last season was much more impressive on a shoe string was my real point of comparing them, it’s not just a Bielsa love in that’s farcical it’s the whole plucky Leeds nonsense!

We did spend a lot, yes, but there's only really Raphinha who has played consistently because of injuries to Rodrigo, Koch and Llorente. So it's been mostly the Championship team. Not taking anything away from Sheff Utd, they did amazingly well, far more consistent than Leeds if nothing else. And I agree, the fawning over Bielsa is way too much, but he has massively improved every player in that team. I bet Leeds squad was bought for a fraction of Spurs'.

so changing the subject back to player nicknames being used in my head I believe I have some loose rules established over the years about when it does or doesn't nark me.

very long names that are hard to type/spell are fine to replace with a truncation or acronym (Auba, Laca, Ibra, KDB, TAA) but only if used describing something on the pitch, not in a fake chummy way designed to make out you know them personally.

it's when it becomes fake chummy like you know them personally it gets a bit icky, so Bobby, Stevie G, JT, Lamps, Roo. If you do know them personally then its sort of OK if that is how you'd greet them, so this is a judgement call based on probability.

also anything that actually makes the name longer is just odd, so Sonny for example.

maybe it's being in the City for years but I've never been very big on the use of first names even if used correctly. 'Good game today by TAA' strikes me as ok, but 'Good game today by Trent' seems problematic and time to reach for Neoelites puke image (this really isn't anti scouse bias in this case either).

I don't believe I'm alone in overthinking this one.

I saw this on the chelsea vs man city match report:

and thought; who is Tommy? Who are they referring to? Did Tammy Abraham play? Is that a mispelling? His appointment? Then i thought of this comment and previous rllmuk discussion.

50 in the Prem is the same as 60 in the 46 game divisions.  Leeds of course could get up to 59, which is the same as 71.

Which is the span from 7th to 14th in the Championship this year for what it's worth.

I feel like it's ok when you talk to other fans of the same club(is Tommy Thomas Tuchel? I had to look through the whole line up to work that out) but if you have to check the team sheet to work out the names it's pointless.

Good game by Jackie, Robin and Gjianni today btw.

Also, in Spain, France, Italy and Germany, 50 points would be 7-9th currently.

That's the first time I've heard Thiago speak, on motd just then, he sounds like a universal soldier. That's such an interesting robotic voice.

Indeed. Points per game matters more when comparing relegation fodder but even then a difference in league sizes, the format, and often, distribution of quality within can greatly affect what counts as a reasonable target.

This is NeoElite though so the Football League is basically the King James Bible to him. If the rest of the world are different, the rest of the world are wrong!

Rotherham boss is a top man as Sol comes on after beating cancer.

Suspect this will be his final appearance for us as a player as he is out on contract, but I hope he gets a testimonial or something when fans are back.

I think if the ground had been full yesterday than the cheers for him coming on would have been up there with a last minute winner against Swansea or penalty wins to reach the play=off and League cup finals.

Bamba has always come across as one of the most liked players I've ever seen play. Every game he played for Cardiff, he'd be laughing and joking with opposition players before, during and after the game and the outpouring of support when is was announced he had cancer has been immense.

Just seen the Watkins sending off, and its probably the right call he starts to go down before the contact.

The problem is the amount of times these type of calls are actually given and the decision is backed up by officials and pundits, if this was a new line in the sand and every time a player started to go down before contact it was a booking the great! but the problem is, that this will be a one off and next time when its a Kane/Salah/Fernandes it will be given and the same pundits/ex refs/commentators will bring out the old "clever play" trope.

Really losing the enjoyment of the premier league at the moment no consistency, just feels like we are back to so many games being decided by refs.

Good home win against a team with a shite defence and many problems, let’s not get carried away over the ESL stuff as every dog has its day - Norwich beat Man City last year ;)

Leeds have been ok, Sheffield Utd last season were better as a returning prem league club and have proven this season that second album is always harder!

Better side on the day won, no doubt about that tho.

I am cautiously optimistic about next season. Our weakest part of the season was when we had a bunch of injuries, and picked up markedly when the new signings got a run.

We'll likely to be able to invest again and not lose anyone critical this summer. Looking at the games we lost, there were a lot where our best performance would have been capable of winning it. We can get better and more consistent.

We have spent 100 million but that's probably the minimum of what you need when you come up. But we've had times the team on the pitch all played in the Championship. We've scored cracking goals and played pretty football. Team and manager have been examples of integrity.

It's beyond our wildest dreams given the last 15 years.
