what about the bloke who decides exactly the same on red/yellow cards at present and gives hundreds of pens at the moment ?

this would result in less pens not more and doesn’t give the ref any decision to make that they currently wouldn’t be expected to in other circumstances

So the person who you don’t agree with their decision making week in week out now has an extra nuance to consider when making a decision!? Is the next step for VAR to go through possible scenarios to decide on the balance of probability would the player have gone on to score or set up a goal?

In general I agree there are too many penalties at the moment but that’s a mix of clever players and poor defending decisions and having a hard and fast rule for foul in the box is a penalty seems much more sensible than adding sub rules that will no doubt become equal to 5 min VAR reviews for offsides.

I'm extremely angry that some fucking moron at Celtic has decided now is a great time to go for the club to go on a 4 day holiday in Dubai.

Even if there wasn't a pandemic it'd be an insult to the fans given how shite they have been all season, but in the current situation it's downright disgusting. Especially as those fans have coughed up for season tickets they'll ever get to use.

Arsenal have almost certainly set the record for the biggest disparity in sock length. Smith-Rowe of course sporting the Nora Batty saggy stockings look and Maitland-Niles in a pair of prospector’s long johns.

And Tierney in just a pair of speedos

You've go various London footballers in the shit this week-end for being exposed as going to parties/gathering, but a whole Scottish football club decides to go on 'holiday' after pretty much conceeding the league halfway through the season by losing to their hated rivals is quite a decision.

Pochettino confirmed as PSG manager.

Now, I usually like Micah Richards and think he’s been great on telly. He has described the appointment as a “match made in heaven” to the Beeb.

The Guardian’s Jonathan Liew has a slightly different opinion.

Neymar is such a shit. First task for Pochettino is juggling a COVID stricken squad

Kieran Trippier's betting ban for breaching FA rules suspended by Fifa

"Personally, I think it’s a suspension that is disproportionate for the player and totally unjust for Atlético,” said the club’s CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín. “How can it be possible that the party that is most negatively effected by this is Atlético, which hasn’t played any part in the process? If the player has committed an infraction that does not have any effect on the competition, how can it be Atlético is the one punished by this?

“The fact that the FA has punished the player by preventing him from playing against Chelsea, and that the ban just happens to finish just as the England national team is scheduled to play a competitive game, makes you think all sorts of things about the integrity of the competition and the ethics of a football association with a long history.”

He's got a point. Actually..3.

Watch Trippier still get the 10 week ban that coincides with the champions league final that Athletico get to or something.

Or make the same change for red cards. If it was not a clear goal scoring opportunity it’s an indirect free kick, the penalty Arsenal got yesterday would be a free kick instead for example. You might have to add additional rules like only five players from each side plus the goalkeeper to make it more interesting but it would definitely liven things up.

Messing around with the rules is barmy. They just need to crack down on diving and players going down at the slightest of touches. We all know when a player has made the most of a challenge and won a penalty, you would have thought the refs could too although going by some of the VAR calls asking them to do anything is a bit optimistic.

Sadly they also still seem to never give a foul if the player doesn't fall over. Which is partially why we have ended up with this situation. We've all seen a clearly honest player trying to stay on his feet and get given absolutely nothing.

Because football is a team sport.

We get this bullshit in F1 all the time when the team does something that (deliberately or not) benefits the car's performance and people say the driver should keep the win because they didn't put the illegal tyres on the car or whatever.

If Trippier puts the ball in the net, the team gets the goal, if he breaks the rules, the team lose him.  And they don't even really lose a player, they can field someone in his place.

I can write Frank's post game interview now.

"I got it all perfect on the first 15 minutes. My tactics had City on the back foot. Then the players got it wrong and the players weren't good enough to fight back. They need to be better."

Got them right where we want them, 2-0 is the most dangerous scoreline!

Genuine question, what do Chelsea fans think of Frank as manager so far? Obviously he's a club legend so has a fair amount of good will built up. Are people calling for his head yet or is the consensus to give him time?

Leicester looked so impressive today. Two wonderful goals too.

We look an accident waiting to happen whenever we have a set piece against us though. Albrighton was majestic all game; where we've done well this year has been that when we've had injuries the replacements have come in and largely been great. With the exception of Demarai Gray.

I don't think he's doing much wrong. This will be a loss against one of the two teams massively better than anyone else in the country.  The rest of the bad patch came after a massive run of success.  Ole had it as bad, now you'd look an idiot for saying he should quit.

#LampardOut is trending so that probably answers that, but then again twitter isn't exactly the place to find rational fans.

And it's probably not Chelsea fans trending it.

One thing that is dumb, commentators constantly asking where Giroud is.

This is a lost cause, Lampard has brought on 3 players that just need game time, Giroud really doesn't.
