Weird one this with the seasons so closely stacked, and the grounds still set to be empty.

In time honoured tradition though lets have a new thread to discuss all the new issues we've never in any way done to death before.

  • moan about Liverpool and how it really does matter more
  • laugh at OGS who is just a cheerleader and totally out of his depth
  • claim Arsenal are lightweight bottle jobs
  • whine that everybody else dives but our team doesn't (even if you're a Palace fan)
  • pretend its the Wolves thread and talk about Nuno's beard
  • all agree City and their owners are wong un's
  • bemoan financial disparity and use this to justify a teams low excitement tactics
  • wonder who Jose will turn on next as he drags Spurs down to his level nowadays
  • throw in the odd Plymouth reference or Swiss 2nd division team to confuse people who only watch Super Sunday

Think that covers things off ?

I suspect the drinks break will go, that was a summer restart thing. Shame as Arteta could make use of those 2 extra team talks to remind Luiz what he was meant to be doing and tell Pepe which way we were kicking.

I understand some clubs aversion to the 5 subs, but with the schedule due to be mega packed again there will be a lot more wear and tear injuries, and this will just exacerbate that with players having to play the full 90 more often.

Has 5 subs been scrapped? I thought they were sticking with it. I've also seen that the English teams still in Europe will get 30 days off before they have to play their first league game meaning if any get to the final they probably won't play in the league for the first couple of weeks of the new season.

What about the FA and League cups? Are they still both going ahead as planned or are there some changes being made? It's going to be a bit of a crazy season isn't it?

Just to be clear, when we get beat by Olympiakos later, I should complain about VAR and conspiracies in the other thread right? :)

yes, it would be off topic in this thread.

@gospvg I think its exceptional circumstances scheduling wise so acceptable to start this thread without fixtures, which will be published nearer the start of the season than usual. The PL is practically La Liga nowadays and teams will be told when they KO and who they're playing a couple of days before.

I know - but now you mentioned jinxes I'm hoping something good gets cursed, like Utd stop getting penalties or Liverpool stop playing a bit dull and winning every match.

Looks like they've 'fixed' offside and VAR for next season.

No need for rule changes or anything - they just won't make the process of drawing the lines available to TV, they'll only get the final still demonstrating how the strikers left nut was 1mm past the defenders ear lobe so its clearly offside and no goal.

I really want a beard to be offside. With the ridiculousness of the rules I’m sure it’s possible. Who are the premier league’s most bearded players? They bette keep their chin down when through on goal.

Still going ahead, starting preliminary rounds 1st Sept, and still the same structure as usual.  Dunno about League Cup but can't see why that would be altered or delayed significantly.

Still (always) pessimistic about Palace right now...

Unless we buy a significant number of new, talented, younger players it'll be a combined bore and shitfest.

Hopefully Zaha's (likely) exit will force the board's hand and we'll be buying some fresh attacking players, that way Hodgson may be motivated to have a more interesting tactic than "pass it to Zaha and he might make something happen"

Brighton going down with us (us 2nd bottom, them bottom) is my measure of success this season.

I'm more bullish about Brighton's upcoming season. We finished relatively strongly so I imagine that if we can get someone like Chris Wood (but not him) to replace Murray and link up with Lallana on the six games he plays for us then we can maybe challenge for 13th. Glorious mid table anonymity! Joining the illustrious ranks of Southampton, Everton and Newcastle!

Finishing above 15th is my measure of success.

Seriously a Swiss 2nd Division side or Plymouth Argyle could beat them. Just ask @Gotters

Olympiakos look truly terrible. 1-0 Wolves.

Ginger Brummies going through.
