PSP owners check your batteries

Recommended Posts

https://www.kotaku.com.au/2020/07/psp-owners-check-your-batteries/

This weekend on Japanese Twitter, “PSP バッテリー” (PSP battery) started trending. Owners of the Sony handheld began noticing that the batteries were swelling up, and in some cases bursting open.

Checked one of mine(I can't find the other right now) and yep the case had burst open.

At least I can get a replacement right?

Hah, I had mine go pop a few years back. I bought a couple of replacements (third party obviously) and they don't last long either. Inevitable I guess, at least with AA batteries on other systems you could easily (and frequently) swop them!

I thought this has been known about for years? My white PSP-1000 had to have a replacement battery as the previous one had swollen and the cover was popping off.

I think there's been a spate over the past week. Mine was fine two weeks ago but checking last night and the cover had popped off.

I really need to get some time on my PSPs before they fail, I have a few good games on them unplayed.

Mine still good but it's a PSP 3000 and I play it fairly often, can they be played with no battery inside via AC adaptor? Or is it a no, no.

There's quite a few download only games on the PSN store still worth picking up.

@Riven Yes they can be used without a battery inside just on AC but from experience it’s very easy to knock the cable out and lose everything :(
