Games you love but never finished

Also Breath of the Wild. It's my favourite game ever probably but I've still not ventured into the final castle area or faced off against Gannon. Too much other stuff to do still beforehand, then my TV broke and I just couldn't play it in handheld mode.

Paper Mario 1000 Year Door.

Got right to the end but could never best the final boss.

Same man, that's made me sad I never saw the end. I'm going to watch it on YouTube it's been long enough.

i couldn't beat the boss on 1000 year door either, used a cheat disk to finish it, same for metroid prime. used cheats to finish the original half life too.

never finished majoras mask either, and stuff i really liked but i'm not good enough to finish like cuphead, bangai-o, cloudbuilt, guacamelee, and a load of shmups.

oh and kid icarus 3ds, every time i play that i'm amazed by how good the on rails shooting sections are but then by the time i've finished the level i don't want to play the next one, never got on with the not-on-rails parts.

I doubt I'll ever finish Majoras - the bit where you have to get the pearls I just find impossible. I've tried it on both the original and the 3ds version, but I just cant do it. Shame as I love the game .

But the real winner for me is New Vegas. I must have put well over 200 hours into it across multiple playthroughs (which makes it my most played game by some margin) and have never completed it. I always hit a bug or cant finish a mission for some obscure reason.

Still haven't beaten Ganon or gone to his castle in Breath of the Wild, even though I have played 150+ hours over two saves. I guess I just feel that once he is beaten that will really mark the end of my time with the game.

I can understand not having defeated Ganon, but you've never even been to the castle? That's a trip everyone should do as soon as they feel up to it, even if they run off with their tail between their legs.

After posting about Skyrim, I decided to load it up on the 360 today. I tried 3 quests, First one went fine. Second one, Meridia’s Beacon, left me floating in the sky after speaking to Meridia, tried several times, breaks every time. Next one was Alduin’s Bane or whatever it’s called. I read the Elder Scroll, go into the past and watch some Nord asshole walk into a wall while a dragon looks at him, and proceed to sit there for 10 minutes before I reload. Tried that 3 times and it bugged out each time. Fuck that game, no wonder I never completed it.

I think I got up to the Crystal Tower in FFIII for the DS and was done - I liked how things were going but the grind between boss attempts was a bit much. And apparently that was near the end of the game too

I went back to FFIII in May-June of this year (on PSP this time) and finished it ^_^ Having an emulator with a turbo-mode toggle helped with those long battle animations, at least.

Final Fantasy XII

It is incredible, and have done 99% of it, but never finished it. Even finished the damn trials which were horrific.

Twilight Princess

Enjoyed it for the most part, but always get to the sky temple and think fucking cripes this is garbage. Such a shame as the rest I love. Especially the water and desert temples.

Tales of Vesperia

Always get to the abandoned rainy city and just hate the mechanics of the level. But love the game... I need to push through it.

Ni No Kuni

Just put it down after 70 hours and never went back. A real shame. May pick it up on Switch.

Skies of Arcadia. Got near the end but was in serious danger of failing some exams that counted towards my final degree grade and never went back to it.

Tried many times. I bought the US version to play via VGA and the GC version because it was supposed to have a lower encounter rate and faster loading.

One day.

Hades. I'm dogshit at it.

Same but slightly different - I never actually got my head around the original Final Fantasy Tactics. I mean, it was good, but I had no fucking clue how to make my characters better outside of fighting some fucking annoying Chocobos, and by that time I've ran out of steam and moved on.

For me it is quicker to list the games I have completed as far as I can remember than those I haven’t but love.

Sonic 1

Desert strike

Super Mario world

COD modern warfare

Uncharted 4

The Last Of Us

that is it. I have owned almost all major consoles and most classic games.

The ones I really regret not finishing so far are:

I’ve still never completed a Zelda game despite putting hours in.

Mario 3, 64, sunshine, galaxy 1&2 all played for hours and not finished.

Some of the PlayStation’s classics - ico, SOTC owned in ps2 and 4! Spiderman, the last guardian.

Super Metroid, Metroid prime.

And lastly final fantasy 3/6 and chrono trigger.

Sometimes I think I prefer the idea of games rather than playing them!

The Binding of Isaac

Keep bashing away at this but I can't get past the Cave level. I find a lot of it baffling but keep going back.

This caught me off-guard, do you mean the second level? You still have so much to see! 1000s of hours of content!

Pretty much all of them. I'm struggling to think of a game I've actually completed beyond something really short like Mortal Kombat or Streets of Rage 4. And even then, I doubt I've completely finished them, there's still stuff to be done.

I tend to stop playing games when the either become too difficult or I get bored with them. I don't really have the skills attention span to complete most games.

Most 8 and 16 bit games I love remain uncompleted. It's probably because you couldn't save your progress on most of those games and I'd usually get stuck on a bit I couldn't get past, then got fed up playing for an hour or so, only to get stuck again.

To be honest, I usually enjoy the earlier, easier sections of games to the climactic endings, where everything's more difficult and stressful.

It’s really not often I don’t finish a game, especially if it’s something I enjoy and when it comes to difficulty, most tend to be doable but some have endings that still elude me.

Spelunky is one that I love and have played a lot of with hundreds and hundreds of attempts but never quite getting there, making it three times to the last boss. That’s not the super difficult secret ending either. Similarly, Enter The Gungeon is another I’ve played a bit maybe 15 hours or so. Not as much as Spelunky and didn’t expect to see it through yet as I don’t own it either but it’s very tough, usually played with my nephew as I got him into that as a co-op thing.

Those are just difficulty based ones due to being full on Rogue Likes but there are some that I should really have finished such as Blazing Chrome. It’s excellent but i’ve hardly played it much at all. I really need to fire it up again soon. It’s fantastic and it’s not due to difficulty or anything but just that I’ve not been back yet.

Majora’s Mask is one that stings a bit as I played this years ago at uni in 2005 on a mate’s GameCube. Initially this was a turn off when it sends you back with its time resetting mechanic, however I did persevere and thing started to eventually click in place. This may need to be bought for my 3DS one day along with Ocarina of Time which I’ve heard is supposed to be the best version. The reason I didn’t finish MM is that I simply ran out of time when uni ended and we all separated to move on. I never owned a console to play it until my 3DS a few years ago but I’d lost interest by then.

There’s no point in including things I didn’t finish because I didn’t like it as that’s not the point of the thread but as I originally mentioned, there’s not that much I can think of in cases of unfinished games that I’ve enjoyed but stopped. I very much play most of the time one game at a time.

Im also on this right now and because I rarely get on my 3DS, it’s taking forever. I think I started this not far off a year ago or so and currently I’m up to that outer world bit where you leave the floating island. I was playing it again until I lost an hour and half of progress by interacting with a swamp location on the world map and getting a message telling me my entire party have drowned followed by a game over sign. Zelda ALBW took me about 18 months to finish with It being in this system too. I found it really hampers my enjoyment when leaving the game for so long.

Persona 4 Golden for me. 80 hours in, was absolutely loving it, but one day put it down and never went back. I have tried to go back, but I can't remember what I was doing or anything like that. I've considered starting again at some point, but I just don't have that kind of time or patience anymore.

I never finished Fallout: New Vegas. I never finished Fallout 4 either, but I just wasn't into that one, whereas I adored New Vegas and got right towards the end. Never finished any of the Elder Scrolls games for that matter.

The Binding of Issac is an interesting one for me, because it's almost universally loved and in general I adore twin-stick shooters and roguelikes, but try as I might I just cannot get into that one.

Sekiro.

the

Spoiler

Owl

Fight was impossible.

Just starting a second play through which might get me back up to skill to beat it. But honestly think it’s past me.

All that and I think it’s the best game From have ever made.
