Trackmania (out 01/07/2020 on UPlay) - "It's not a subscription game, honest!"

The current TOTD makes me want to quit the game - I’m about .500 off the author medal with no idea how to feasibly reduce that, and somehow there are people a further second below that...

One to add to the Murtagh list, I think.

this returning to Steam has had me playing a bit over the weekend, I'd forgotten what a great game Trackmania is.

I have paid up the £9 for a years access so got a lot to be working thru with all the previous quarterly tracks available

wanted to ask the resident Trackmania gurus though about the previous game, United Forever, that seems to offer different locations and vehicle types over the current title, can see it says 450 courses and there is some DLC too.

is that worth picking up still (especially if on offer) for the locations, is the handling the same or worse, different vehicle classes worthwhile ?

ta in advance.

Spent a bit of time with this over the weekend and is a lot of fun for a freebie. Think I did a couple of hours with so many tracks done I lost count, great free campaign but had too much Wildfire to play so put it on the back burner.

If I remember rightly the Stadium location was free, so the vast majority of tracks for United Forever were based on that. The others all have different handling, there was rally, a desert one with really loose suspension, a super-fast Miami-inspired location. I used to love it, so much to it. Not booted it up in years but the last time I tried it wouldn't let me log in. I think Ubisoft wanted people to move to Trackmania 2 but whilst that was okay it just didn't attract the userbase of United Forever.

If it's really cheap and you can still make an account it's worth it. There's tons in there especially if you can download the user-made tracks. The online was fantastic, simultaneous time trials with tons of other players, although a lot of the courses were almost impossible.

There was a rllmuk group too but some other group infiltrated and basically ruined all the times. A shame as it was fun trying to compete with other rllmuker's times.

Installed United Forever just now to see if it still works. My account was still active, I had been off for 2296 days apparently so have nearly 10000 coppers, plenty of official time retries. I'd reset my track progress the last time i played so tons of tracks to have a go at. Whilst it supports modern monitors it looks like the UI is 4:3 stretched so it looks a bit weird. Game plays totally fine though, coming from the 2000s it's super-smooth and has the fast restarts. You get 7 environments each with tons of tracks. There are even people still playing online. £25.99 on Steam though which is a daft price, not sure if it'll ever get discounted again though as I feel it's been forgotten. Oh, can't seem to browse and download user-made tracks either, the browser seems to be broken now.

Might install Trackmania 2, I have Stadium and Valley but not the other two, it's rubbish you have to buy each environment individually and right now they're £17 each - yeah right. Apparently though there are lots of mods for it so might investigate.

I feel bad for paying for another year of Trackmania but fancied seeing what's what. Lots of official tracks plus there are a shedload of club tracks. Someone had recreated the Winter 2023 season tracks but made them icy, frustrating/fun in equal measure.

As a viewer the remixed official campaigns are interesting. The same ones get made for each easons. Icy. Magnet. No checkpoint. Finish is one block higher. Its an interesting set of challenges.

If anyone would like to take on the ultimate (non-impossible) Trackmania challenge it's probably Deep Dip. An RPG map with no checkpoints in which you must climb a tower. It took the first player something like a week to finish it with all the big name TM streamers and hundreds of others trying for hours and hours a day. There are checkpointed versions that split it up to make it a little easier.

Anyone know if Forever works okay on the Steam Deck?

I loved the original when I was a teen, and Sunrise too. It would be brilliant to play those cars / tracks etc again now.

Thanks for the link from me too. I was oblivious as to it's existence!

I loved the last one to bits. One of those one more go games that you suddenly realise you've lost hours to and I thought the global, and then regional leaderboards were a great idea :)

How long was it for you from registering to getting to partake?
