At 33yrs old I have joined the PC master race.

I'm enjoying my xbox at the moment but I have little doubt I will end up being mainly a PC gamer again.

Without a doubt PCs can be a total pain in the arse, I have had issues lately resulting in windows reinstalls and frustrations. When I got it back up and running I went to play Bastion and it wouldn't start, I had to do some tweaking, nothing big but a small annoyance to be sure. TBH this series of events had a big impact on me buying a series s console.

However the positives far outweigh the negatives for me, the option to tweak your game to get it to run how you want. When you upgrade your PC it's immediate, you don't have to wait for developers to patch in 60 FPS modes or add higher textures etc plus if you don't like the way a game performs you have the choice of upgrading. Expensive yes but the option is there if you want it and options are good.

Xbox has some great backwards compatibility but compared to the PC? it's laughable. The majority of games ever released for PC are playable, again you may have to tweak or use dosbox but the option to play all those old games is there.

Control options, being able to choose between keyboard/mouse or controller, being able to use a PS4, xbox or switch controller if you want or any other number of controllers.

Modding, oh god the modding and tweaking you can do is wonderful. From the Bethesda games to Thief widescreen mods to replacement launchers for Arkham Asylum all the way to complete game remakes like Ultima 5, it's incredible what the community puts out there.

Another huge plus is the digital market place for games on PC, of course all the consoles have digital shops but they are a pale, pale comparison to even Steam on it's own let alone all the other great stores like gog.com, Humble etc. PCs might be more expensive for hardware but when it comes to the games they are much cheaper overall, even if a game isn't on Sale on Steam you can usually find it on sale elsewhere or get a good value key from cdkeys.com. All the sales, Humble Bundles, Amazon Prime and Epic store freebies means you can game really cheaply, plus the PC has gamepass.

The thing I really wish PCs had was some variation of Suspend and resume that the consoles have, I love that feature.

I'd be plugging your pc in to the OLED. No going back.

There’s not a hope in hell I’m going back to 16:9 after my 21:9 adventures. A 34” OLED ultrawide would be ideal but it doesn’t exist as far as I know.

My rig couldn’t power it at all but I’d be more interested in a super ultrawide before I upgrade my LG OLED.

Yep, which is why I've gone PC-exclusive. Sold off my last remaining console (Switch) last week.  My PC is connected to my TV, I use a wireless Logitech keyboard and mostly play with an Xbox controller + GOG, Steam, Epic, GP, keys, emulators = love it.

I was the absolutely the same but did after a side by side comparison.

But anyway, try the G9 if/when you can, it's a lot of fun.

  • 1 year later...

Finally decided to hook my PC up to my TV for some PC couch gaming but there's one thing I need some help with and that's the resolution when switching to the TV.

I'm duplicating my monitor and TV displays but when I use the TV it always gets set to 3840 × 2160 and I have to change it back to 1920 × 1080 every time. Is there a way to permanently run at 1920 × 1080?

Thanks.
