I tend to be on around 10-12pm, I'll look out for you.

As I'm an old man, that time is usually when I end up falling asleep on the sofa before dragging myself to bed, unless I hit the coffee... So might do that to prepare!

Decided to grab a digital copy of this before the sale timed out as it’ll make it easier to duck into a dogfight as a break from Demon Souls. As such my disc will be up for grabs very shortly.

Annoyingly though my T-flight seems to have just started suffering from some right stick drift :(

They all will sooner or later. How many hours have you put on it?

I’ve probably bored everyone to death talking about it already but electronic cleaning spray (the WD40 people make one) on the back of the POTs and an air duster will stop the drift for a while. The only tricky part is getting to the potentiometers without snapping any wires.

Not many, 10-12 max I would say. I noticed it on the PS5 menu initially but I was in a mission last night and it was doing a lot in the craft too. It's only slight so going to have a look at the deadline settings.

I’ll try and play it early on Saturday morning then, if you have a long session we may cross timezones. I don’t think you ever showed up on my friend list mind.

The second Operation has started so I'm back in the calibration ranked fleet battles. Not doing very well I have to say, won 1/3 so far and didn’t feel like much of a key player in the winning round (I think my service to the team could be summarized as ‘shield stripper’). In one other game I played the opposing team had two guys with similar tags, both in A-wings that would cloak as soon as you targeted them and both got 15+ player kills each - that was super frustrating and makes me wish I could just sometimes get on a team that would work as a team. Nobody uses voice chat at all though.

It sounds like they are doing something like this: putting all power to engines to store boosts, boosting in direct to a target, then letting rip with quick lock missiles, rockets and the short range rapid fire or burst lasers, then using the remaining boosts to bugger off. With some practiced accuracy on dumbfire warheads, it probably works a lot.

I can't wait for the Tie Defender. It'll be interesting to see how they fit the roles of the new ships, as the current ones are already split into their roles:

All rounder: X-Wing/Tie-Fighter

Interceptor: A-Wing/Tie-Int

Bomber: Y-Wing/TieBomber

Support: Tie Striker/U-Wing

So I guess they would both fill some sort of heavy assault role.

If they ever added more ships, two I would like to see are a Mandalorian fighter (which would look amazing in VR with the spinning wings around the cockpit), and maybe the Tie Phantom

Is there an upgrade which prevents enemy players targeting...I’d scroll through the list of enemy squadron players and he would never appear.

There’s a shield (hull maybe) which prevents enemies locking on outside a certain range - it’s summarized as passive stealth.

I think I am one mission from the end of the story mode, and I wanted to say how much I enjoyed nr. 13 - it was exactly the right type of space battle, facing a superior force but enough reinforcements on your own side to make you feel in control, then a nice bit of set piece stuff to finish it all off. On pilot mode.

Then I tried it on Ace. During the big space battle it is necessary to dock with the star destroyer at a couple of points to restore shields. The star destroyer itself is traveling at full pelt towards the enemy, so when you are dropped back out of the hangar you get crashed into by the rear of the hangar bay and killed instantly :/

Bit of an oversight there. I died that way about four times before I learned my lesson. The only way I could beat it was by avoiding all conflict until my support ship had a health drop available.

Story spoilers:

Spoiler

As for the big showdown with Javes, he has clearly got a bit of plot armour going on because I could unload 40 barrage rockets into his face, hit with about 30 of them and he wouldn’t die. However if I waited until the scripted speeches are over I could finish him off with around half as many. Thing is, don’t play chicken with this guy because he will 100% crash into you. That’s how I failed every time, with a head-on collision - on my last attempt I had him on the ropes, probably one or two hits left to win and again he clipped my fighter on a pass and I exploded from about 75% health. I did a restart from checkpoint and immediately got the victory cutscene. So I guess we both went down. Huh.

Spoiler

As for the interior chase bit, that was an interesting take on it with the tractor beam in play - the first time I did the end part I got a bit disoriented, and was essentially being dragged around the core backwards, with the targets cycling up in front of me and then  disappearing behind the central shaft - it felt like I was on a backwards-facing roller coaster. I survived that somehow, but on the Ace mode repeat play it was very different, with me being pulled around sideways but not really feeling in much danger of collision.

One mission to go then!

The kids are getting a second hand PS4 Pro for Xmas (bought from this very forum), and I’ve bought this game for myself to play when they’re on a break from Miles Morales and Minecraft. Very much looking forward to it; hope it gives me the same kind of vibes Rogue Squadron did on the GameCube. Man I loved that game.
