Nearly picked it up on PS4 for £20, because of PSVR support. Is it the whole game, or some standalone bits and bobs?

Yep, you can play the whole thing in VR (including briefings etc).  You can also switch back and forth as you see fit.

(ordered from amazon, could have got it digital, and save having to dick around with a disc all the time)

PS5 is "Improved visual quality and lighting on PS5" only, which means everything I've read about the PS4/PS5 version is true.

Patch notes:

60% reduction in maneuverability while firing the rotary cannon... WHAAAAA?

I appreciate the TIE bomber needed an armor nerf, but this is too much - the Y-wing is gonna be hurt. Better hope the B-wing feels handy or I’m out of a ship that I can comfortably use :(

Quick question on this, if I have a PS4 Pro with PSVR vs. a decent-ish gaming PC that outstrips my PS4, would you gentlemen recommend still getting it on PlayStation for the VR-ness? I mean VR Star Wars dogfights sounds like a dream come true to me, but thought I'd check which to go for as I am not one of you lucky PS5 early adopter people.

Also I'm sure this has been covered in the thread, but doing a quick bit of review research on it, was very disheartening to see lots of 0 score reviews because of "SJW bullshit". I'd like to know what the game is like, not how upset people are with it being inclusive. Stupid internet.

You'll get the official Rllmuk awards review of it eventually (assuming enough people vote for it) but suffice it to say, I've played it on PC without VR but with a flightstick, and it's second only to Hades for me this year. And this is coming from someone that considers Tie Fighter one of my favourite games of all time.

Single player is fairly short, but multiplayer is a blast. For £20 it's a steal.

More people need to buy it so we can form Rllmuk Squadron.

Just bought the ps4 physical version on a whim a few minutes ago because it was 1900yen/16ish pounds and I want something new to dust off my psvr for.

Remembered a few minutes after buying it that I don't have psplus so can't play online.. Hopefully that short single player has some replayability.

That number is not a level - it’s experience, but that goes up rapidly just for participating. If you finish a ranked fleet battle after choosing a random team, you will gain something like 8-10,000 xp points, even if you lose badly. The gap between levels maxes out at 25,000 once you get above level 40 I think, so you shoot up really fast. I’ve now played against people level 100+ who finish near the bottom of the ranks, whereas I’ve seen level 10-20 players wiping the floor with the opposition.

Matchmaking is a bit messed up, but that number you see is not an indication of it.

Ah, thank you for explaining.

Anyone playing this on PSVR on PS5? It looks great but it seems to have developed like a juddering problem, where the screen kinda tears and almost gives you a double image when you move your head sometimes. Was hoping the latest patch would fix it, but still no joy.

Hope they can fix it soon- it’s almost unplayable with it as it makes it nauseating. It doesn’t even happen all the time which is weirder. But if they get it fixed, this will be amazing!!

Went for PSVR. The first time I launched my ship I realised I had made the correct choice. Exhilarating. I am absolutely abysmal at it though. I have zero flying game experience so it'll take me a while I think. Genuinely did not realise I was upside down at one point. Five stars.

Having been bingeing on everything Star Wars all day today (but mostly on Rebels) if anyone want to join my squadron for some multiplayer fun tomorrow I'd be well up for it.

Remember, it's cross play so PC and console players can join up on Origin.

I’m still focusing on the story missions atm but I took a break from those to try and get a round in on the new map (didn’t).

What I did get to do is try out the rotary cannon with added nerf... oh bollocks. I don’t have much of a problem with them trying to reduce it’s effectiveness, but *how* they have done it has just made it really unpleasant to use. Every time you squeeze the trigger it’s like a magnet turns on and your ship gets locked on rails; if you are tracking a target then obviously you let go and your ship jumps, until you shoot again and then it’s magnet time again. So it’s jerky stop-start stuff the whole time. This is all made worse by the few seconds of warm-up time on the cannon as the magnet effect kicks in after that, which means it doesn’t even feel directly tied to your inputs either. It’s like that comedy cliche of someone who doesn’t know how to drive lurching the car back and forth.

I think they’ve wrecked my favourite ships :(

(that said, the combo of strong armour and seeker mines is still good, even if not very noble - so maybe I just have to make do with standard cannons)

On another note I really love the addition of ion rockets. I have an X-wing kitted out with both and I did the most capital ship damage in my team with it last night. Another losing round of course. These ranked matches are always down to nailbiting finishes that could be a coin toss, yet my side always loses. At least it’s sort of teaching me not to care about stats.

This is such an amazing game, been playing it loads recently. I seem to have reached a base level of competence that doesn't drain away if I have a bit of time off. I've internalised all the controls and find myself flicking switches and shunting power around to account for any situation like a proper Star Wars pilot. I'm a master at hardly ever dying - don't over-commit on attack runs, don't blindly chase fleeing fighters into the danger zone, always be prepared to bug out to the safety of your capital ships under full throttle when someone gets behind you. Love it.

My preferred method of attack is to take an X-Wing or TIE Fighter loaded up with the long-range ion missile for shields, and then let rip with the closer-range dumb-fire barrage rockets and lasers to strafe the hull when in close. I get loads of cap ship damage that way. I've not played with the bomber class much - I assume they are a magnet for incoming fire. I prefer the high-speed hit-and-run tactic to suiciding. I also find that angle of attack is crucial - getting diagonal on the broadside makes for a bigger and more strafeable target rather than approaching head-on. For the mothership this also means you're less likely to be wasting your fire on destroyed areas of the hull.

Was looking for you online last night @Benny but didn't see you on.

I’m all about the suicides.

KDR in dogfights: 1.56

KDR in ranked fleet: 0.48

(I do try and stay alive, but bombers mostly shouldn’t be flying away from the targets, right?)

I’m trying to get used to taking a dogfight approach to the fleet battles, so may be leaving the bombers behind myself. I just can’t get used to the changed rotary cannon.

I got too distracted watching Rebels for my Star Wars fix

How about tonight?
