So this is a bit naff then? Ok next up, Dead Space!....

It was always the way from that reveal trailer, it had 6/10 all over it.

Edit: The question at this stage is I guess, is there an under-appreciated 7/10 gem in there that we discover in a few months when it’s 15 quid and some videos of high-level play get some attention.

Or is it pure shite.

No PC reviews yet then, which doesn't bode well I guess.

To be honest, it'll be fun to see how punishing the game is on a top level PC - you know something has gone badly, hideously wrong if a 4090 can't run the thing.

It'll also be fun to see if the game is actually a wonderful, beautiful thing on a PC too.

Who knows.

As DF mention in their findings, it’s the lighting that doesn’t work in this game. The world is overly bright and quite garish at times making it appear dated by a couple of generations, but the scale of it, the animation and the effects are quite impressive.

So basically even a top end PC won’t solve that issue.

I reckon it’s one of those games that will find a fan base as the combat looks like it could get interesting and rewarding given time. It’s something a bit different anyway.

Yeah definitely, once it lands there I’ll give it a go but I’m in no hurry to buy it straight away.  I do like how the world is designed with big draw distances and notable landmarks making it easier to navigate, again a bit like BOTW.

I'm wondering if they've got more ray-tracing implementation though - if they've got full on sun-shadows, then that could make a colossal difference to how the thing looks.

Doubtful of course, but I can dream I guess.

There is a PC demo of this up on Steam now. Seems to run well enough.

Edit: Not sure if the demo is using Direct Storage like the full game, but the loads in this are fast.

Initial thoughts are that the draw distance is really impressive and the magical parkour is really immediate and fun; conversely the combat is quite rote and in the wake of open world granddaddies BotW and Elden Ring (which it feels heavily influenced by) it all feels a bit been there - done that - don’t have 80 hours in my life in which to slot this.

Downloading it on my steam deck for a laugh. Will report back!

Yeah, watched a few vids and Direct Storage looks the shit. This is hopefully what the near future brings to all PC titles.

Game looks shite but the loading is incredible. Yeeha!

In simple terms think of it as what Sony and Cerny brought to the PS5. Super fast loading into RAM from your storage, preferably an Nvme drive, but it works with SATA too, just not as fast.

It uses your GPU to do some woo woo decompression shit. There's a demo knocking about that shows it in action on your machine.

BRB.

It's a 100% safe file-

Or mooch around GitHub if you prefer-

IT'S EIGHTY FUCKING EURO ON STEAM!

EIGHTY FUCKING EURO!

You can pick it up for around the £45-£50 mark elsewhere, although that's still a good £20 more than I want to pay for it.

I wouldn't pay a tenner for it.

Posting in threads for games I have no interest in - I guess that's just something I do now.

I got this and don't have anything to add to my impressions beyond what I already posted about the demo, I'm finding that it runs mostly fine but the textures look shit a lot of the time on a 3070. I think the game is very VRAM hungry, like 8GB VRAM is peasant tier all of a sudden.

edit here's a screenshot, it's like FFVII Remake door redux. I set the texture options to 'standard', but there's lots of assets which look like this and sometimes the LOD flicks from low to medium in cutscenes

There's a way to solve this of course but it's very expensive and I shall not do it. Until then, I hope DF make a video on this PC port and explain what's going on with the LODs and textures. I will see I guess how those larger scale fights run, good thing there's a demo out cause that had some gfx-stressing sequences in it that'll let people go into this more informed at least

What it looks to me is (as someone who hasn't got a fucking clue) the devs/higher ups love huge vistas but their engine isn't up to the job. Hungry RAM requirements and mucho shitty textures and LOD ensues.

Oh, and similar to the post a couple above-

Forgotten.

For some reason the demo is taking an age to download but there’s some videos on YouTube and this game runs on steam deck at around 30fps. It isn’t pretty but it is pretty impressive.

Has anyone actually played the fucking game? Is it actually alright, or...?

I played the demo a ton and really liked it, and am generally positive on the bits I played of the beginning of the actual game (2 hours in, first boss beaten). It's a fairly basic game

But I'm fine with it being a middle of the road open world game with floaty combat and cool magic, it's all I really wanted I guess. I won't say the game is appropriately priced or anything like that though.

Anyway alex from DF is on the pc performance thread on resetera and people are on there sharing tips about VRAM optimising for this game and how to cure the vomit textures, so once I fix that I'll get into it proper

Well considering the price, reception and spec requirements.... I haven't played Titanfall 2 yet either, and that's only £2.49 on Steam right now.

T2 is so fucking good. 2.49 is shamefully cheap for an all-time game.
