I'm just really enjoying playing through the main game in tpp at the moment. It brings new life to the game and feels more classic RE.

If only we got the same TPP for Resi 7. I think that would massively benefit from it. It's more old-school Resi than 8.

Rule of Rose (can't remember the DLC name) is pretty short and cut-down. I'd be able to forgive it that if it contributed meaningfully to the lore, but I'm afraid it doesn't really.

I'm enjoying the Rose DLC (Shadows of Rose iirc?).  It's kinda like a remixed greatest hits EP of the original game, at least so far, with a few neat surprises and touches thrown in.

The

mannequins that follow you are a brilliantly creepy idea!  And I liked the way you learned about Rose's background & story, through the puzzle solving in that section.

I've been playing this with the 3rd person camera mode and absolutely love it.
It feels a tad easier as a result, and far more fun to play. Way more in keeping with the new REmake games.

Totally love it!

I am secretly hoping that all RE games will converge on the REmake style of 2, 3 and 4 :)

I completed Resi8 Village and felt it was quite weak, the main criticism I had was that there didn't seem to be that many enemies about.  You were free to explore the castle while the woman in the hat randomly turned up.  I can imagine in 3rd person there's a lot less action that I'd like. Am I wrong?

It’s the exact same game with a new camera.
Did you play past the deliberately spooky and not actiony mansion bit when all the action actually ramps up?

Yes I completed it.  It was alright but nothing nearly as good as 7 in my opinion.

7 is the complete opposite for me. It's still good, but one of the weaker ones.
The house is nice and spooky, but afterwards when it gets actiony it feels a wee bit unfinshed.

8 ramps up and up as it goes along. The

toward the end is properly lol-stupid amazing.

I'll get the 3rd person patch and give it a go.

Just tried the Re8 demo on switch.

Borderline unplayable.

I still have my doubts about cloud gaming, just seems ridiculous to me

I was quite down on that area on my first playthrough but I've come right round to it, looking forward to getting there with my NG+ setup

It doesn't work. It's also a pretty crap way of playing. I really don't like that you can only play with an Internet  connection and that when the server goes you've lost the game.

The input lag was shocking and frame rate all over the shop. It's great you've got a demo but I think the shitty performance will put people off.

As I really don't like the idea of cloud gaming this is a good thing :)

The weird thing playing the demo is that I think the switch could run this natively.

I'll console myself by buying Resi 4 (format #4!)

Just 4 formats?  The definition of frugality.

So bought this in the sale, and working through the achievements. Went straight from normal to Village of Shadows with upgraded weapons.... and I remember there being a preorder bonus or special edition that would allow you to start on this difficulty.

Not sure why, because it'd be borderline impossible. Two magnum shots to kill normal enemies, two hits to kill Ethan from full. It looks like great fun, but going in with standard weapon progression doesn't seem like something you'd want to do, ever.

Everything done now except for Mercenaries.

Hot dog, mercs mode in this looks like complete ass. Enemies spawn at predetermined points and you have to learn their locations to keep the combo going. It's not about doing well under hectic conditions, it's clearly about playing the mode 'correctly'. Ugh. Might skip it and leave it non-1000'd.

Gotta admit, I've never been too keen on learning optimal routes. I prefer a more chaotic approach - No Mercy on 6 was excellent, though I did bemoan having to arse about hitting time and bonus crystals in that too.

Looking it up, seems a lot of people have the same complaints I do. I'll give it a fair bash I suppose to see if it clicks, but first impressions are that it's not my kinda mode.

Village of Shadows was pretty fun. Faster enemies was a good choice there.

Interesting thought there.  I bet it's easier for a publisher to make a game once, one format, running in the cloud, than to go to the trouble of converting it to each platform.  I wonder if to save money we'll see companies moving their games to the cloud and releasing them on every possible format that can run a simple cloud player app.

Personally, cloud gaming has been a lot better for me than I. Imagined it could be, but there's still lag, so it still not a good solution.

Certainly easier. I last did game development about 35 years ago - and it was educational games in a small team so I have no idea what a AAA title costs in anyone form - including conversion to other formats.

I guess its a toss up between running a server farm for the life of a cloud game (4 years?) vs that. It does solve the problem of piracy/second sales.

Personally I sit well in the camp of I want to be able to play it without needing a internet connection and I don't know if its my age I really like physical copies. At the moment cloud gaming feels like I'm paying a premium for a non premium product - I'm not averse to digital copies - although if I really like something I like a copy on cart/vinyl/cd etc.

Given I'm sat at home on a stupidly fast connection Village was shite. Cloud games for me would be something with a relatively short playtime that I'd only want to play through once. Anyway that's a whole different debate!

Sorry, bit off topic here, but the other day I saw RE6 was a fiver or something on the PS store, and having never played it but being aware of its, er, divisiveness, I thought fuck it, it can't be that bad.

Well. I've played an hour or two of Leon's campaign and so far it consists entirely of shooting galleries linked by corridors. Is this the whole game? No exploration or puzzling at all? Or are the other campaigns different?

Puzzles in these games are kinda just pointless time wasters anyway, whether matching symbols or lugging weird object A to drop off point B.

Each campaign in 6 is a bit different, but Leon's is the most 'classic' of them despite the abundance of QTEs and forward progression. Chris' is more like a shooting gallery, Jake's is an escape sequence with breathers.

Mercs mode is excellent and where I think RE6's combat approach shines. Slap it on No Mercy and you'll have a great time, but it's not classic RE at all.

I hated RE6 first time I played it. Humourless and performed like ass on the original consoles. With modern hardware I actually rather enjoy it, but it's not like the old games - it's a CQC fest where you can roll around like John Wick stringing together kills. Good fun, but not survival horror in any meaningful capacity.

Edit: Onto the '2' versions of the mercenaries mode. Uh, they didn't do a good job with Mercs in village. Should have had loadouts, restarting and going through the shop because you have no idea where the next enemy is before the combo resets is a pain.
